Will it finally let you delete/hide Newsstand?

They will not let you delete or hide a stock app. Put it in a folder.

Not true. Nike+ has an On/Off switch.

Also, there is still the issue of the infrared light being on no matter if Raise to Speak is off or if Siri is off.

My 4S doesn't have its IR sensor on all the time. Only when Siri is listing/active or I'm on a call. I have Raise to Speak set to off.

That's why it's not a stock app ;)

It's an optional app by Nike.

I'm not saying you're wrong but I thought we can't see if it's on or off with the naked eye?

Update 1:
Maps App does now caching or better caching of the map.
New design of the blue route line.
maps is faster...
newer, better quality satelite pictures for my location (dingolfing, Germany, home of BMW's best factory *g*

Its made by Apple and included with the default installation of iOS. Its a stock app.

I used a digital camera, namely my 3Gs' camera to see the IR light. And if the IR wavelength is close enough to visible red and in a dark room, some people can see it.

Maybe we'll be seeing some significant updates to the Maps application in this release. It sure could use one.

Just read elsewhere that some changes have been made to iTunes Match. Apparently there are different icons and now it has "Use Cellular data" in the options for it.

Redesigned iTunes Match on iPhone, mainly ....hopefully it doesn't kill the battery life like Match did on iOS 5 and 5.0.1.
And playlist on Match are somewhat fixed on my iOS devices

Safari seems snappier.
Not sure why someone voted this post down, as I've noticed this too, sort of. The functionality of the OS as a whole seems the slightest bit sped up. I'm referring mostly to apps opening and closing, multitasking, etc. Could be in my head too, who knows.

Other than that, I haven't found anything in addition to what others have pointed out. Certainly the battery issue will take time to examine.

ooohhwww yes, its time for...

something is in the air... the beta 1 is only 799,98 MB ... smaller than the official 5.0.1 - normaly it grows

safari is a little bit snappier but in java script performance or html5 implementation it does not change anything
update: they did something with safari... it gets 89886 Browser mark points ... before 87000 - 88600

oh man, my english... only can read and understand ... not write my own texts

i have it dled but I want to wait for the release notes to come up and see how bad the bugs are as they say theres no reverting and i dont want to be stuck on it for 2 weeks if the bugs are horrible.

If this is your comment, then you're exactly the kind of person who SHOULDN'T be downloading a beta.

Does a Newsstand icon really bother you that much?

Are you kidding? Did you see the hissy fits people threw over the Game Center application and how it ruined the rest of their lives. We'll not hear the end of this one for some time to come.

Still has issues displaying the wrong album art for me so it's going off for now. If only they would just let you see the music in your iCloud and customize it freely.

I'd much rather have Newsstand and Game Center over all of the carrier bloatware that comes on Android phones.

I agree! Hated that when I had the Captivate.

I am also hoping for a for a
Wifi/AirPlay fix. My 4S crashes my wireless network (express g) after a song or two from the music player, pandora etc. My iPad and iP4 are unaffected.

Many long threads on apple support, and an Engadget article. The problem may have an easy overlooked fix, but is still widespread.

Can't really put a "folder" inside a folder...
I heard about the glitch where you could do that, but it crashed my iPhone while trying to attempt it, so not gonna do that again...

I guess it's a matter of personal choice, but for me, yes. It bothers me that I can't hide it in a folder or delete it an app/folder that I never use and have no plans for using in the future.

Also, I'm hoping the option for 3G toggle on/off comes back. My iPhone sometimes doesn't make the switch to Edge automatically even when there's an extremely weak 3G signal.

It's nice that they still support Snow Leopard for iOS development now that Lion is released.

I can only see the link that says

Xcode 4.3 and iOS 5.1 SDK beta (Lion)

I hate how the iPhone sticks to WiFi, whenever available.

My experience is, when I have 1 or 2 bars ('arcs'?) of Wi-Fi, it is so slow it barely loads web pages. I have to manually switch WiFi off to force 3G (cellular data). I understand this design decision is based on the fact that in the US, 3G tends not to be unlimited, and (when available at 3 full bars) WiFi is faster, but c'mon...

I wish there were an option to "Use the fastest radio available" in Settings.

That's great and all, but what seems to almost always be missing from more or less all of these kinds of "investigations/explanations" is that they don't seem to account at all for the fact that pretty much a similar number of iPhone 4 phones (not 4S) have been experiencing essentially the same kind of battery drain issues after updating to iOS 5. So, it certainly sounds like there's something at least (possibly much) more to it, if not something else entirely.

Drivers are software, and are likely to be modified on os upgrades. Unless you have specific knowledge that the ios5 drivers (and related software) for the iPhone4 and iphone4s have no code segments in common, or knowledge that the ios5-iphone4 drivers or related software have no changes from their Ios4 counterparts, then this report could absolutely account for the ios5 problems occurring on an equal number of iPhone4 and iphone4s phones

Why would you feel otherwise?

Pete
