Just installed it, will report on whether it fixes my battery issues or not (I have had 5% drain per hr in standby since I got my phones, only fix is turning off cellular data).

Sim failure fixed ? just want to use my iPhone 4s as phone not ipod anymore can anyone confirm about sim faiure issue?

How do you put newsstand in a folder?

You need newsstand and 2 other icons not in folders. Place one app on top of the other to create a new folder and then tap and hold newsstand and it pops right in. Sometimes you have to click home and start over because it doesn't work.

The app is not openable after that, it crashes springboard. Also, it won't show in the folder thumbnail when the folder is closes, it's an empty space.

does it allow one to use his 3GS without the crappy, planned-obsolescence-proof-of-concept lag ?

I can only see the link that says

I hate how the iPhone sticks to WiFi, whenever available.

My experience is, when I have 1 or 2 bars ('arcs'?) of Wi-Fi, it is so slow it barely loads web pages. I have to manually switch WiFi off to force 3G (cellular data). I understand this design decision is based on the fact that in the US, 3G tends not to be unlimited, and (when available at 3 full bars) WiFi is faster, but c'mon...

I wish there were an option to "Use the fastest radio available" in Settings.

And if it could also not try to connect to "free" networks requiring authentication thruogh a portal, that would also be great. I tend to turn off wifi most of the time because it kinda sucks.

That will never happen... nobody wants to use their 3g when they have free wifi...also if the wifi signal is bad turn it off...

Also, there is still the issue of the infrared light being on no matter if Raise to Speak is off or if Siri is off. This doesn't apply to the idle drain group, just contributes to the low usage numbers.

A GPU driver problem doesn't account for all the iPhone 4S users that don't have the issue though. This is pure speculation and should not be stated as fact.

I don't have a battery drain issue with my iPhone 4S at all as I've shown many times. This is not affecting all phones. It's a particular software configuration in all probability, a mix of apps and settings. A bad driver would affect all units as they all use the same hardware.

Tell me about it... That is the plague here in Japan. Those "Free Wi-Fi - with proxy server routed through login popup"... I hate that cr*p. They trick the iPhone into believing it is really a free network. Hammer of Justice down their b*lls, Now!

Am I missing something? I know this is only beta 1, but there have be NO new features mentioned!

Do you think 5.1 will release on or before Christmas day?

Does the music app still suck?

And the ignorant vote him down.

The music app has huge problems, particularly on iPad. Details here as well as many other threads.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1254178/

So to anyone who has used 5.1, any improvements to the music app, either bug fixes or improvements to the app interface? Lyrics working again? :30 rewind? Chapters in audiobooks?

Just read elsewhere that some changes have been made to iTunes Match. Apparently there are different icons and now it has "Use Cellular data" in the options for it.

I sure hope so. How about fixes to things like not syncing play count and last played, and smart playlists working right and using the max limits (limit to 25 songs etc)? And genius totally disabled on iOS devices when match is enabled.

I installed it last night then charged it to 100%. I left it off the charger overnight. Normally it uses 5-10% overnight.

My stats this morning:

98%
Usage: 11 min
Standby: 7 hrs 36 minutes

I envy the amount of minutes that you spent sleeping :(

7,5h? i mostly sleep around 10h and get bitchy with anything less than 7

anyway, is it worth upgrading my iPad 2 for? is it rly only bugfixes? isnt a .1 number usually for something bigger?

So far it looks like the battery usage is slightly better (3% per hr on standby instead of 4-5%) but certainly not completely fixed:-(

Yet to do a full deplete and recharge as I was on 85% when updating so will report back tomorow sometime probably when I've had a full charge.

Only Apple knows that at this point, but it seems likely. And there was a new feature announced in the leaked release notes, but only the one.

What is the one new feature? Would be good to have this before Xmas

I've noticed in 5.1 that there's now a bluetooth icon in the top status bar, I'm sure that wasn't there in 5.xx - trying to find other new stuff..

Drivers are software, and are likely to be modified on os upgrades. Unless you have specific knowledge that the ios5 drivers (and related software) for the iPhone4 and iphone4s have no code segments in common, or knowledge that the ios5-iphone4 drivers or related software have no changes from their Ios4 counterparts, then this report could absolutely account for the ios5 problems occurring on an equal number of iPhone4 and iphone4s phones

Why would you feel otherwise?

Pete
The posts I was replying to were saying that the issue was something specific to iPhone 4S, and I was pointing out that given that a very similar number of iPhone 4 phones seem to be suffering from the same kinds of battery issues ever since upgrading to iOS 5 implies that it's not something limited to iPhone 4S and/or its hardware.

That's basically what it comes down to: the battery issues do not seem to be limited to iPhone 4S and therefore can't just be due to some sort of iPhone 4S (hardware or even software) issue(s).
