Good luck beyond Calais with your OS map. ;)
Just had four weeks in France. Drove from Barnsley Yorkshire to Angouleme in Dordogne and all surrounding areas.
Through the city of Rouen, Le Man. It rerouted for road closures and do you know what.. Not a hic cup all the way..Apple maps has been the only one used on my phone for years now. Gets me everywhere I go..

Same here. Been using Apple Maps for years and it has worked flawlessly. No way I'd go back to google for my navigation needs.

Bizarre. Apple Maps does all those things for me.
Really? You know, the world is bigger than your neighbourhood. If Google introduces a new feature, it’s immediately available in 220 countries. If Apple has something new, it’s available in 4 cities and the rest has to wait years.

Am I the only one annoyed by the use of the word “new app”? There is no new app, it’s new maps that are updated server-side, it’s not a different version of Apple Maps app.

Ugh. Waze looks like it developed by Fisher Price. I HATE the UI so much. What’s more if you use it because you need to get around the traffic, the next time you switch back to Apple Maps on CarPlay because the UI is so much better, Waze keeps popping up telling that there is a red light camera coming up! Pliss off! I’m not using at the moment! Plus, I don’t care!

Does anyone see the new map already? I have iOS beta but I still see the old one. Is there any screenshot of any area in the U.K. showing a comparison?

Can someone tell me what is wrong with OpenStreetMap.org ? Why not just use that seems like the best private option.

And you are paying through your nose for that, by losing your privacy, being targeted by ad sharks, etc.

Both Apple and Google have a long long way to go to get mapping right. Ordnance Survey do it best.

I don't think Apple Maps is a -private- choice , they might not track or collect data on you as much as Google but they still collect I believe. I would be happy if they made a 0 zero collection for a paid subscription

Agreed, Waze’s UI would benefit greatly from a major overhaul.

As for the annoying pop-ups, you can turn everything off by pressing Waze’s “power button”, found in the upper-right corner of the screen when you click on Search, as below:

I still get less accurate directions in apple maps. But google maps probably collects more personal information. I have to pick my poison.

the older maps screenshot puts milton keynes on the map when zoomed out , which is definitely more important than Cambridge these days :D

I’ve had the new map on my ipad all day but my phone and Mac still show the old one. Be patient.

If anyone figures out a way to trigger beta enrolment for this (if there even is such a way, I know there’s a strong chance it’s out of our control) then please do share!

The navigation system of my car integrates with various technologies and car features, like offering info in the heads up display, showing an AR lane guidance view or simply telling me that my fuel is getting too low for the remaining trip & proactively telling me to go to gas station X.

That and the fact that Mercedes has yet to offer goddamn wireless CarPlay... hooking up your phone via cable is so 2010 when your car has wireless charging for mobile devices.

Wow. All dashboards have a warning light to tell you when you are running low on fuel. Due to my carelessness that's happened to me three or four times in 300,000 miles of driving. It's a couple of key presses to find the nearest fuel stop in CarPlay.

Mercedes isn't the only company to come late to the show in terms of wireless connectivity. Toyota are also very poor in this respect. Having said that, Toyota's inbuilt navigation is absolutely terrible, so the inconvenience of plugging in the phone into its holder (and having it charge) far outweighs the misery of using the inbuilt satnav.

Anyone else in the UK use Apple Maps to get to the area, then switch to Google Maps when nearby to find the specific building/place you need?!

Apple Maps is great for battery. Google Maps is great for accuracy and detail. In the UK that is, outside of major cities.

The privacy policy on Apple Maps is listed here, a couple of screens down. No need for you to spend any money.

Well, if you feel free to make wild generalisations, I am at liberty to comment on my specific personal experiences.

In any case, I can't let your lies stand. Google Pay, for example, is available in 30 countries, not 220, slightly less than the Apple Pay tally.

No. I did once drive to a tyre fitting in an industrial estate. The workshop was about 50 metres off the marked location on the map. Rather than fiddle about switching to Google, I reported the inaccurate location and dragged the marker pin to the correct spot on the map. It was rectified by Apple shortly afterwards.

The Google Maps numbers quoted by the previous poster are correct:

“According to Google, the new Google Maps design is available in all 220 countries and territories that Google Maps supports, and in the near future, there will also be more detailed views of roads for pedestrians.”

Looks like Glasgow and Newcastle now get 3D. Apart from that, there is more green shading on the map.
Glasgow has had 3D for a number of years - think it was just subtly different zoom not showing it on the left image.
As far as I can tell it’s only Queen Street Station that’s 3D in Glasgow and not much else!
The whole of Glasgow (even suburbs) are in 3D to me - have been for ages.

It‘s not about warning lamps for fuel, it‘s about the fact that it suggests refueling before it gets to that point to ensure a smooth trip (e.g. it also usually prompts me to refuel when the attention assist hits and tells me to pull over at gas station X).

I value the tight integration my MBUX offers over the CarPlay integration with dated maps for my european country and lackluster POI.
Maybe once they roll out new maps and their own POI DB I consider switching.
Also: Maybe Toyotas system is crap, I have only praise for mine though and I‘ve used it a lot over the past few months.

So, you have been to all the countries in the world.;)
Seriously, Apple Maps for navigation is the better one here.

We are talking about “Revamped Apple Maps”, remember? 😉 I also prefer Apple Maps UI and routing algorithms over those of competitors. However, Apple could speed up rolling out their more detailed maps to more countries.

For me it just looks like the very occasional building is slightly 3D but that’s about it. I’ve looked all around and can’t really spot much 3D! From what you’re saying, it sounds like for you it’s much more than that?
