Don't let my unfortunate experience be yours. I purchased the high end version of the 15" MacBook Pro with AMD graphics. Two days ago, it showed the graphic glitches described in this article. I pressed the left hand part of the screen with my thumb and the LCD started to crack. I don't recall dropping the laptop or doing anything which might have started the crack. Generally, I'm fairly careful with my laptop and carry it around in a laptop bag.

So, I go to my local Apple Store to try to get my display fixed. The Apple Genius explained that they don't have the tools and replacement parts to fix my MacBook Pro yet. These tools and replacement parts would be coming next week. They wouldn't replace my MacBook Pro either so I will have to wait 1.5 weeks for it to get fixed.

To make matters worse, I purchased AppleCare for my MacBook Pro because I've had good experience with AppleCare for my iPhone and repairing cracked screens from accidental damage. Unfortunately, I didn't read the fine print and accidental damage like cracked displays isn't covered with AppleCare for MacBooks. So, now I have to wait 1.5 weeks and pay $680 to get my new MacBook fixed. Needless to say I'm not very happy and I have serious concerns about the durability of the MacBook Pro LCD display and enclosure. Is it really this fragile?

My Learnings:
  • Protect your 15" MacBook Pro. If my experience is typical then the LCD enclosure seems to be very fragile.
  • Do not put papers or anything between the top and keyboard. Maybe putting papers between the keyboard and screen contributed to my problem.
  • Read the fine print before buying AppleCare for MacBooks. Accidents liked cracked displays are not covered for MacBooks. Replacement batteries (80%) are covered. Repairs of screens are not and cost $680 USD.
  • Wait to buy MacBooks as Apple doesn't supply Apple Stores with replacement parts and tools to fix MacBooks until several months after public release.

Is it because they are making the laptop so thin that the screen becomes fragile? Knowing that, Apple Care no longer covers cracked screens? Perhaps this is a new way to increase revenue? In the next version, they are going to make the MBP even thinner. We may hear more and more incidents of cracked screens.

For people like you, I guess watching some cat videos on it might be quite nice, though, and I don't doubt that.

Errrm, I make so much money monthly using my MacBook it would make your eyes water - and I do advanced tasks that you've ever even heard of - competent in unix terminal commands are you?

...whilst you review apps on Youtube. Less of the cheek next time when you don't know who you're talking to, my battery life is fine thanks.

It has to be software.

Never had an issue with Apple products. It's really a non issue for me still

This clearly shows your opinion is completely biased.

Except this is Gen 4, it's been 10 years since Gen 1! How much longer do we need to wait it out?

C'mon dude, you know what he meant.

I'm eating LSD and my display is just fine
Are you Scandinavian for any reason?

The 10.12.2 Beta Serria update did NOT fix the video problem for me :-(

Based on what? One story among millions of purchasers?

In his case it may very well be a manufacturing defect. Or he may have applied enough pressure with his thumb to crack any screen.

The screen doesn't seem particularly thin or fragile, and there havent been any other reports of this. No need to be alarmist.

"Apple believes" ... "may be fixed".

In other words: isn't ? Anyone got first hand experiences on this ?

AND your point doesn't stand. The MacBook Pro isn't intended to lure buyers of the 2015 model. It is aimed at buyers of older Macs. Most people, including self-proclaimed "pros" don't upgrade computers every year. Intel has made incremental improvements.

I don't disagree that the reduced battery life is a disappointment. But my solution would have angered self-proclaimed "pros" like you even more. Apple probably should have stuck with the 15W processor family for all but the highest-end 13" model. The speed differences, particularly on the CPU, aren't that great.

Overall, I think these are the best MacBook Pros to date, but perhaps Apple would have been better off ignoring the critics who panned them for not upgrading to Skylake, and just released them with Kaby Lake next spring. They won't be much faster, but Intel has further refined the power consumption, so the real world battery life would be better.
It is one of the best MacBook Pros to date - yes, but I do think the 2015 model has the edge in a lot of ways. I understand the incremental improvements that Intel is doing, a lot of this is also because we've come so far that all improvements are minor now.

Yikes buddy, lol. YouTube is a hobby, it's what I do when I'm not out being a CISO at a very large company that you most definitely know of. Add a few zeroes to the end of your monthly income, and that's what I make every 2 weeks. Unix? Don't even get me started, of course I know how to use Unix terminal commands. Don't play yourself.

Hahahaha yeah, right. You work for someone else making half of what I do - unless you're a salaried millionaire then you're statement is highly inaccurate.

Your*. Lol and you think you make anywhere close to what I do. That's laughable. Did you know that you can be an entrepreneur + work a high 6 figure job at the same time and make millions a year? Crazy right? I mean, even the CEO works for someone - the owner/chairman. But we make a LOT of money. TBH I probably make more in a month than you do all year. And a good quarter of that money is just dividends, interest, etc. But it's okay, just stay complacent at your job, be a good little worker, and let us call the shots. :)

Keep dreaming kid :D (and making videos about Snapchat).

Just saw the bug happening, I think. It wasn't as expected because it was just the Pages window that got distorted. After moving the window the glitch disappeared. Very strange, should be software bug right?

Last week, we reported an increasing number of early adopters experiencing concerning graphics issues on the new MacBook Pro.

All late 2016 MacBook Pro models appear to be affected, including standard 13-inch and 15-inch configurations with AMD Radeon Pro 450 or AMD Radeon Pro 455 graphics, but the issues appear to be most prevalent on the high-end 15-inch model with built-to-order AMD Radeon Pro 460 graphics.

User complaints have continued to surface over the past five days, with new videos emerging showing the usual symptoms, ranging from brightly colored flickering and full-screen checkerboard patterns to screen tearing and visual artifacts. Affected systems sometimes become unresponsive or crash due to a kernel panic, requiring some new MacBook Pro users to perform a hard restart.

Separately, a number of users continue to report brief glitches during the boot up process on new MacBook Pro models, particularly along the bottom of the screen. It appears this issue is related to FileVault 2 startup disk encryption, as the glitches go away for many of these users once the feature is disabled.

Apple has yet to publicly acknowledge or comment on the graphics issues, but in a supposed email response to a MacRumors forum member, Apple software engineering chief Craig Federighi allegedly said he believes the problems have been resolved in the latest macOS Sierra 10.12.2 beta released on Monday. As a point of emphasis, this email response has not been verified. While we have yet to verify the authenticity of the email beyond a reasonable doubt, there is some unscientific evidence to suggest it could be real:
o Although it could easily be faked, the response appears to resemble previous email responses sent by Federighi
o The user who shared the email response is a longtime MacRumors forum member who registered his account in June 2007
o Apple executives appear to be increasingly using email as a vehicle to subtly address customer questions and concerns
o MacRumors viewed a lengthy follow-up email the user received from Apple's Executive Relations team, which appears to be legitimateReports from affected users running the latest macOS Sierra beta are slim at this point, but at least one forum member claims to still be experiencing graphics issues on the fifth and latest macOS Sierra beta.

macOS Sierra 10.12.2 should be publicly released later this month, so additional user reports should soon prove if the graphics issues have truly been fixed.

[doublepost=1481870023][/doublepost]I have the new 2016 MBP 2.7 Ghz with radeon 455 GPU and ever since I got this computer 2 weeks ago have had frozen graphics display with strobing colors while playing 4K video in Premiere Pro. Today, I upgraded to OS 10.12.2 hoping it was a fix and the same issue with graphics card display frozen and strobes with different colors. Apple HAS NOT addressed the graphics card issue with OS 10.12.2. I'm a professional editor, editing in 4K and I'm ready to switch to a Windows machine unless this is fixed soon.

That's not really comforting for somebody like me whose MBP is going to be delivered in about 1.5 weeks. Have you logged the case with Apple? What's their official response?

Somebody posted on youtube how the graphic issue goes away by going to the color setting screen. Is that a reasonable workaround till Apple provides a fix. Have you only experienced this issue when you use Adobe Premiere?

I would do several things:
[1] Take the machine to Apple ASAP ( maybe get Genius appointment first ) store and demonstrate the failure when running Premiere Pro.
[2] Ask them to give you a new machine right there in the store and ***before leaving the store***, load Premiere Pro and prove the problem is gone.
[3] If they are unwilling/uncooperative, ask for a full refund. Obviously bring your receipts and be ready for this possibility

I have only had the graphics card issue with Adobe Premiere Pro. I'm right in the middle of editing 2 projects at the moment and am scheduled to fly out to London. Adobe gives you the choice of using the GPU for high intensity rendering or using the software only over taxing the processor. Apple also provides metal, but I don't know if that is fully developed yet. With that said, yes, I have contacted Apple 2 times. The first time they told me to zap the PRAM. I did that but it didn't work. The 2nd contact, they took my information and said Apple was able to recreate the problem and was working on it. Then the new OS version 10.12.2 came out and I installed that, but again the problem came back and seemed worse because it crashed my machine. I tried contacting Apple, but they weren't available. This new MBP 2016 is still in the holiday returnable period. So, I think I will return it and get a refund. I'm editing on my old 2008 Mac Pro. It's barely holding up. That is why I'm in need of a new workable mobile machine. Apple needs to fix this problem soon. I have not tried adjusting the color setting screen.

You might be better getting the MBP 2015. You won't loose out on performance, and you will have all the ports you need.
