The review is telling. He loves the hardware, hates the software.

For me, the software is what makes the device. Otherwise I'd be using a massive PC in a 3 foot tall tower case.

What Apple should do with the 6th generation iPhone is release the first phone with zero bezel, and make the screen 4". One, it would look cool. And two, it would shut everybody up.

All I see everyday are new phones at work, all with lovely big screens. Apple are starting to no longer lead the pack... Come on apple!!

Apple would first have to first ask Samsung if they would do it for them considering Samsung is expected to go almost bezel free for the SGS3. You can't go completely bezel free as you need space for a case or space for your fingers when gripping the phone.

He doesn't say he HATES the software. He just likes iOS more for now. I'm betting he updates the review with even more love once he gets the ICS update for the Note with even more functionality for the S-Pen. With 5 Million and counting Notes sold, Samsung has definitely hit a very unexpected homerun.

People who get them phones with big screens (note) aint intrested in making/taking calls. All the note video reviews I seen, and not one demonstrated making calls. lol

How many video reviews of ANY sized phone have you seen where a phone call was demonstrated. It generally doesn't happen. I (and presumably most others) are uninterested in watching a person talk on the phone for many reasons, not the least of which we cannot accurately gauge the actual phone call experience.

The did a got job summing it up:

"Review: Samsung Galaxy Note – Oversized..."

"Living with The Monster"

3.5-4.0 is the perfect size display for what the device is... A PHONE.

I used to agree with you. I make a lot of calls.

Then I realized I use my "phone" for other things even more than calls. For me, it's not a phone first.

I've honestly never seen a review ever where they demonstrate a phone call.

I really hope Apple increases the screen size, if they dont i might get the next stock android phone(successor to nexus) or a Windows Phone 8 device later this year.

The iPhones weight and thickness for it's size is terrible. For a phone with such a small display, it should be much thinner and lighter. The Galaxy S2 is thinner and lighter than the iphone. Much more portable. Put your iPhone in your shirt pocket and you can really feel it. Put it in a cargo shorts pocket and it constantly whacks your leg because of it's brick weight and feel. Galaxy S2 is bigger, yet does not do this due to is lightness and thinness.

By the same token, i've seen friends drop their galaxy S / S2 from their hands onto a table, and seen the case come flying off, the battery fall out, etc.

My iphone survives that sort of thing without any faffing about. In fact, out of the 3 iPhones i've run with no case, I rate it as the most durable phone I've ever owned, and that spans a long line of nokias, LG, Ericcson, etc.

The galaxy also feels..... cheap. The iphone has a quality feel to it.

For all of you fan boys who are threatening Apple to keep the same screen size, good luck! What are you going to do if they increase the size of the phone and screen. Will you leave Apple to make them sorry they did?:p

Wow. You've never been to PCmag.com or any other Ziff Davis site then have you? They love to point out on whether or not the phone actually makes decent calls or not.

Can't say I have. Am I supposed to? Most reviewers comment on the call quality, but they don't sit there and show you what the phone looks like held to your head.

So it seems that screen size is the most important factor in these threads. Not the quality of the OS or the apps or the ease of use of the OS or anything else, right?

I wouldn't give up iOS for a bigger screen, just for the sake of the screen. I've used Android and WP7 and a huge screen isn't going to make up for the fact that the OS are not really that great and the apps just plain suck there.

I personally find the iPhone to be elegant and eminently useful---as a phone. It is what it is. And I wish that these innumerable threads about screen size would cease. If the screen size (of a phone---a friggin' phone) is of such overriding importance, buy something else. Or buy a tablet. Or do something, anything that makes you happy, rather than coming here and blathering on about it. This topic has been beaten to death. The screen size of a phone (a phone) is not nearly as important to the average consumer as it is to some people who feel compelled to post on this forum ranting and obsessing about it. Vote with your feet and your pocketbook, but shut up about it. Really.

My intent is not to offend, but simply point out the (seeming) obvious. This conversation is stale, and it's not even a conversation. Enough is enough already.

3.5" is ok for a phone, buy iPad if u want bigger screen. Thats all.
3.5" is very impressive for a phone... In 2007.

It's 2012 and our General usage has changed dramatically since the iPhone was first introduced. Keeping in mind that a bigger screen does not mean a bigger phone, then 3.5" is outdated and WHEN Apple chooses to increase the screen then every single person who claims "3.5" is just right" will buy the bigger screen and adjust to the "inconvenience" of increased visibility, comfort and usage without missing a step.

Even if the iPhone remains the same size, I hardly see a bunch of iPhone users running out to grab a giant Android phone.

I agree I love the size of the iPhone screen now. A little and I stress LITTLE bigger would be ok but come on its a phone. I see these huge screens on other devices and I would hate having a phone that big. I saw one the other day this guy was using and as a joke I put my iPad up to my ear acting like it was my phone, we got a laugh and he said he hated how big it was, I'm pretty sure it was the new Samsung smartphone.

Even since the iPhone was released we keep hearing about these so-called 'iPhone Killers."

5 years later, the iPhone is still kicking ALL of the other smartphones' collective ASSES and as yet to be "killed."

Apparently some of these so called "experts" will never learn.

Idiots.

I really get tired of the 'just get an iPad' response in these threads.

I have one. Thanks. It's not a replacement for my iPhone nor would I want it to be.

I've been a hard core and very loyal iPhone user from the start. Love it, love iOS, etc. Don't want an android - Clear?

The world has moved on for me now and I use my iPhone in ways I didn't 2 or 3 years ago. I read a lot more and stream video a lot more. Both of these activities occur at times and places where I couldn't or wouldn't use my iPad. Both of these activities would be greatly enhanced by a larger screen.

A 4" screen would be an excellent enhancement and could be managed without making the phone too large.

Maybe not, but the review was spot on. I'm a long time iPhone user, who just switched to the Note. Also, I've had a number of people ask about my phone, just like when I first got the iPhone.

That's because holding that HUGE tablet looking thing up to your ear makes you stand out in a crowd and people want to avoid being similarly embarrassed!

I see Apple being in kind of a pickle. No matter what they do they will tick off some of their loyal fan base. Only thing I can think that would keep more happy is the make two new iPhones, one the same size and one a little larger.

Apple is going to have more competition in the future no matter what they do and it is getting harder and harder to wow anyone with new features. While I like my 4S is does to exactly knock me over with new features, but the I never expected it to do so.

The iPhone 5 is going to have to be something "big" to wow me!

Sorry, but no.

You forget that while not everyone spends a lot of money on apps, a very large percentage of this "loyal fan base" clearly do ... the facts are in 25 billion apps downloaded (a lot of free apps in there, I do acknowledge) and over $2 billion paid to developers.

As each year passes, these iPhone owners buy more apps and their collection swells and thus their investment in the iOS platform does also. Many people will not simply walk away from a considerable investment for the sake of a screen, especially when a lot of the high end paid apps on iOS make what's on offer on Android considerably poor looking in comparison. I personally, every day, hear Android users I know bemoan the lack of certain apps ... I can't say as an iPhone user I long for any Android apps. In fact, as someone who follows the industry closely, I can't even name or acknowledge a major Android app that's exclusive to the platform, yet every Android owner knows of Infinity Blade for example.

You got voted down, but what you posted is spot on.

I seen a bloke on the train to work last week using a Note, giving it overly dramatic swishes with his stylus ... sorry, I thought this was 2012.

Are there any surveys or statistics on how many iPhone users switched to Android or Windows because the screen size was bigger? And any stats on those who consider themselves loyal Apple customers or own other Apple products. I might be in the minority but I don't think I'd upgrade my current 4S if the physical phone was bigger (even if it got thinner). Something like the Galaxy Note is, to quote Jony Ive, 'rude' to me. I would feel embarrassed ever using it as a phone. I wouldn't mind if Apple was able to make the screen bigger, but I don't want my phone any larger. I love the fact that I can use it with one hand and am able to reach all parts of the screen.

I dropped the iPh0ne 4S with its TINY screen, and picked up a GNEX. Best thing I have done in a while, I may go back to apple if they loose the tiny, little, minuscule, diminutive, small, screen.
