I dropped the iPh0ne 4S with its TINY screen, and picked up a GNEX. Best thing I have done in a while, I may go back to apple if they loose the tiny, little, minuscule, diminutive, small, screen.

So you gave up good apps for **** apps and malware? Just to have a larger screen? Good on ya!

Sorry, but no.

You forget that while not everyone spends a lot of money on apps, a very large percentage of this "loyal fan base" clearly do ... the facts are in 25 billion apps downloaded (a lot of free apps in there, I do acknowledge) and over $2 billion paid to developers.

As each year passes, these iPhone owners buy more apps and their collection swells and thus their investment in the iOS platform does also. Many people will not simply walk away from a considerable investment for the sake of a screen, especially when a lot of the high end paid apps on iOS make what's on offer on Android considerably poor looking in comparison. I personally, every day, hear Android users I know bemoan the lack of certain apps ... I can't say as an iPhone user I long for any Android apps. In fact, as someone who follows the industry closely, I can't even name or acknowledge a major Android app that's exclusive to the platform, yet every Android owner knows of Infinity Blade for example.

You got voted down, but what you posted is spot on.

I seen a bloke on the train to work last week using a Note, giving it overly dramatic swishes with his stylus ... sorry, I thought this was 2012.

Sorry but YES!

Hate you wasted all your money but there is no way Apple will keep this tiny screen.

I haven't wasted any money on apps.

If iPhone screen stays the same, I buy the new iPhone.

If iPhone screen increases in size, I buy the new iPhone.

What an absolutely woeful contribution. You failed to get the point. You seem to think people who have spend a lot of money on apps will ditch the iPhone if it's screen does not increase. While some can and will, the majority of big spenders on iOS will not ditch the iPhone if the screen does not increase in size.

I cannot believe you made me waste five minutes of my life repeating myself because you failed to grasp the point being made.

Then you missed my point "DH". This is why Apple will increase the size of the phpone and screen because you Apple die hards will buy what ever they make:p

One of these again  I wear normal jeans, normal suits, normal clothes as a whole. I'm male. Will a Note fit easily into my jean pocket? No.

The problem is that the Android side has been trying to outdo each other with a bigger gun each time. It's just getting a bit silly now.

The 3.5" display is a tad on the small side, but I can see the purpose. 4.3" is okay, but too big for some hands (and for me was a general pain, being a fast one-handed user). 4" is the agreed limit for most.

So it seems, iSource has done a very interesting review.

Here's a quote from the review:
"That switch lasted less than an hour and I knew I had made a mistake going back the 4s."

I often wonder if wackjobs like this ever realize how ridiculous they sound

By the same token, i've seen friends drop their galaxy S / S2 from their hands onto a table, and seen the case come flying off, the battery fall out, etc.

My iphone survives that sort of thing without any faffing about. In fact, out of the 3 iPhones i've run with no case, I rate it as the most durable phone I've ever owned, and that spans a long line of nokias, LG, Ericcson, etc.

The galaxy also feels..... cheap. The iphone has a quality feel to it.

Ummmm...this is what is engineered to happen. It's called dissipating the energy. Sorta how cars have a crumple zone. Otherwise your phone takes the full impact and thus ends with the ever common shattered iPhone screen. Not sure why you wouldn't realize this.

People are really overestimating the demand for a bigger screen. The average really doesn't care about screen size, and Apple knows this. All of my friends who aren't into technology primarily use their smartphones for calls, texting, and social networking. A larger screen would not significantly benefit them. The demand for a larger screen just isn't there.

My iphone has taken several far higher drops than this onto bitumen from waist height and is fine... the drop i'm talking about for the galaxy was literally 20-30cm or so.

Agreed. I really don't believe that a bigger screen would make a better phone. Well, maybe slightly bigger, i.e., edge to edge on the same device form factor, but if it involves making a bigger DEVICE then i don't want it.

If i want to do stuff that demands more screen real estate, i'll use a bigger device - that ISN'T the phone i carry around all day in my pocket.

I reckon steve got it "right" with the device sizing. This is also the reason I don't believe we'll see a 7 inch ipad... imho, 7 inch is an "awkward" size (not really any more portable than a 10" ipad, and not really big enough), the only reason for it to exist really is because it is cheap - and apple don't cater to "cheap" simply for the reason of being cheap.

I reckon apple is better able to constrain cost by limiting the number of different models to get economy of scale - adding another form factor of ipad will only increase production costs. This is why there is only a couple of different variants of each model of laptop - vs. say, hp where you can add/remove stuff like $5 modems or $10 web cameras....

As much as I like my iPhone 4 I was always annoyed as to how small the screen was. Excuse for me saying so but 3.5" is tiny, real tiny. Well especially now that I have bought a Samsung Note. It's funny to as I'm a very petite woman. I found that I the Note was extremely usefull when surfing and writing letters, even emails. I still have my iPhone 4 but I'm using it less and less. I understand that Android is a very sore subject here but I actually quite like it, this is my first Android phone. I couldn't believe how much I missed having a file manager, I now use it more then any other app that I have. I didn't know this was possible but I have my work and home network mounted as a normal folder. I can open up and manipulate any file.

The pen that comes with the Note is also extremely usefull, I have now replaced my notepad and pencil with it. That screen, oh my gosh that screen, excuse me again but Samung know's how to make a screen. With a resolution of 1280 x 800 it makes viewing everything including media a real pleasure. I also figured how to root my device and overclock it. I now run it at a normal speed of 1700 MHZ with only a 5 percent loss of battery.

I appologise for subjecting you guys to a point of view of just another person who turned to the dark side but I trully wish Apple would also make the absurd. The Samsung Note is absurd in everyway but it's also really great. The iPhone is still a good phone but I have out grown it. After seeing how much control I have with Note and how great a large screen can be I think I will skip the iPhone a couple of generations till it can catch up.

I'm not talking about catching up with cpu power, display technology or even design something Apple clearly understands. I'm talking about rebelion from the norm, absurdity, pushing the envelope, freedom to do what you want with a OS.

I'm starting to babble, I will skip the next two iPhones in hope that Apple will give me a larger screen, MiniSD card, filemanager, able to plug the phone into any computer and mount it as a drive, removeable battery in the future. The list goes on and on, my eyes are now opened to what's out there. Where this girls was once a iPhone only person has now become a owner of a Samsung Note, Nokia N9 and a hopefully a Nokia 808 when it's release next month.

Apple better increase iPhone screen size, or more of this will happen
No, it won't. Not everyone has identical needs/wants. It's flawed reasoning to assume that any company "needs to do X (like company YYY) or else" despite how often that sentiment is posted on every discussion forum (and not just on smartphones but on every product) out there. Keep your day jobs, armchair analysts.

I tested the Note at length along with the other analysts in my company as we were evaluating devices for our company. We won't be using it as a standard device based on our testing. YMMV as with any subjective matter.

There was well over 15 apps I would consider bloatware installed out of the box.

I question the reviewer when he/she writes statements like that. Well over 15 apps? so 16? 500? I lol'd when I read that.

You fan boys need to stop suggesting we want a iPhone as big as the Samsung Note, very few want that. What we do want is a screen that approaches even average size. Phones have changed and no longer sport the tiny screens on the iPhone 4!

No matter if you like it or not, I am betting that Apple will make the next iPhone bigger as it will keep the MOST customers. They are no so worried about the die hard fans as they have no where else to go! A larger screen will keep many from leaving.

Great post Frau :)

The 3.5 inches is the perfect size for one handed typing, but I'd be fine with 4".
