I find the "durability issues" with Apple devices amusing because the people who are most vocal about them are also the ones who replace their phones every year or two. Who cares? These devices are disposable, whether you like it or not. OS upgradability ends at year 5 or 6, and they will probably introduce a new feature "worth upgrading for" in 2-3 years.

Treat your iPhone like a hammer and not a unique piece of rare artwork. If you carry it around in your pocket without a case it actually develops a nice patina over time.

Let me remind you, pro model costs like 2k on top spec, tell me it is cheap… but you know what is funny some models that cost like 500$ don’t have any of those issues… You paying friking 2k $ for the smartphone which will have like from day one scratches!!! Is it normal I think not, not for this price! And not for this company! Fffs

Which is why most people use cases if they are paying that much. Even if the phone is super durable and didn't have slight paint chip issue would you still go around using a 2K phone caseless??!! I think most people would not. Some of you are begging for the 2K foldable phone next year, most foldable phones I seen haven't been that durable and spending that much to use it without a case would be wild.

If its the chargers then its going to happen to people that use MagSafe chargers at work & home
It’s NOT the chargers it’s the anodization of the Aluminum

iPhone 13 Pro here, never had any issues or scratches. They should go back to glass and steel next year 😂

Kind of what I expected from them after seeing all the testing. Looks like generally the case is fairly durable with the exception of the sharp edge along the camera bump which can chip and reveal the natural metal. I'm not too concerned, my phones always end up with some wear marks over the years, as long as it still functions I'm fine with it. But that first scratch is never fun.
or over the days….

Its not an investment. It's a disposable piece of technology. $2K and then Apple Care. You can be as careless and you want and end up getting a new phone every 4 months, and then trade it in a year later for $750 and get a new $2K phone.

The Apple ecosystem is perpetual. That's why they do as well as they do financially. If you are slinging around a $2k iPhone you likely have other Apple products and you are just used to spending a few thousand dollars a year on Apple products. A $5k MacBook Pro lasts 5-6 years before it stops receiving the most recent OS—that's $1,000 a year just to "maintain" your ability to run the latest and greatest. That's the Apple tax. It's ALWAYS been part of their brand.

I feel like iPhones have scratched easier since iPhone 13 to honest

This is not really true. Well unless we include 17Pro which rivals iPhone 6 except it's now more prominent simply due to the phone being much bigger and heavier. But then again, 6 was much more susceptible to scratches than 14.

This is like mark Zuckerberg blaming the wifi on his last presentation fail.

This is inexcusable. The reality is that aluminum scratches very easily. There’s tons of people with scratches on their pros already. I dislike the new material on the 17 pros so much. Someone elsewhere even say “now we know why [there’s no black 17 pro]”.

Let me just be clear and say I haven't compared them for myself. But if this was an issue with the iPhone 16 series, we certainly would've seen headlines about it. But something must have changed.
It did change. Apple decided that early wear is now an expected outcome. 😵‍💫

The company that very carefully chooses it’s words:

It’s "material transfer" not "scratches" 😂

Welcome to the world of Apple!

Yeah but like people are paying for "Pro Max", and getting regular phone experience in terms of durability. 🤷

I would even argue regular 17 is perhaps more durable, cosmetically.
That's my impression as well. It's common for Apple to introduce a new technology (like Ceramic Shield 2) in one place first and only expand it to other places in later years. They probably switched the back glass from no "shield" at all to Ceramic Shield 1 in order to reduce shattered backs, but it might come at the cost of being less scratch-resistant than before.

I always look closely at the devices in the store. This is the best way to know, how people treat their own devices (plus the "it is not my phone - I do not care" factor). So: I know, the "weak" parts of it.

The frame always looks like - you know what - and the socket at the bottom is scratched like hell. Besides that, I definitely do not like that aluminum back thing.

Aren't all the user models scratching easily too?

So they’ve known for a year that the in store chargers degrade the demo model gear. Demo gear is the gear you display to promote said gear. Offering demo gear with known visual detractors is clearly not in the sales 101 handbook.

It’s like a car dealer offering a new car with a scratch down the side made by their car washer guy’s keys in his pockets, and then saying we’re going to fix that by removing said keys. No **** Sherlock.

I was in an Apple Store today. Weirdly the airs kept dropping off the stands. Security guards were constantly putting them back on the magnetic stands.

I suspect some of the pro max ‘shortage’ is due to a constant supply of display phones being sent to stores due to damages. So many display phones looked wrecked.

Like with anything you own, I think you should always take special care of it. No matter how fragile or not fragile it is, you should probably try your best to protect the item. I’ve had iPhones for over a decade and have never damaged any of them. Whether it’s titanium or aluminum, take care of your damn things.
