One doesn’t need the app.

I’m not alone and may be more typical than you believe. 75% of my family isn’t on Facebook.
So, your family is not a typical family. Half of the world is on Facebook. 95% of developed world is on Facebook.

This is taking things too far. There's nothing wrong or irrelevant about letting customers know where their money is going.

Apple knows their 30% is too high. They're scared.

And yet nobody seems to be mentioning Google, Sony, and Microsoft - all of whom charge the same 30% for access to their platforms. 30% isn't too high when you're dealing with billion- or even multi-million dollar companies. Small developers deserve a break, yes. A graduated system of fees based upon total sales with short-term waivers granted to new, smaller developers would be fair.

But 30% too high? Please.

I’m not sure what alternate universe you’re in, sounds nice though. In mine Facebook still holds 75% of the worlds social mediA market share.

Social media marketshare. I guess that can be a thing for a dead end business. Perhaps MySpace have 80% of the platform homepage market.

Gotta love the irony of Facebook's statement highlighting how important it is for users to understand where they money goes. Oh yeah, just like users understanding where crazy amounts of personal information go in iOS 14, right Facebook?

For sure you have - may I suggest you go to town, meet some younger people and ask em what they are doing with their phones. You probably get > 90% telling you something about messengers and Instagram, shooting selfies and short videos.

And FB, insta and WhatsApp is a heavyweight and belongs to the top reasons why people are using a smartphone - no matter what your reasons are... (All 3 belong to FB if you don’t know)
If by young people you mean my family, the top three reasons we have an iPhone have nothing to do with Facebook. More typical than you believe.

Point was the app isn’t needed. And for the half the world that isn’t on Facebook, that’s plenty of customers for apple.

I agree, let’s take FaceBook, Instagram, and WhatsApp off the App Store and see how the global smartphone market share looks in 18 months.

Stop making it all about you, you aren't all that important in the grand scheme of things.
Banning all Facebook apps from iOS would plummet iOS hardware sales and marketshare. Fact is, A LOT of people use their services and rely on them for different methods of communication.

As much as I hate all things FB (I've never had an account on any of their platforms, FYI), I agree with them on this case.

Apple is just being petty as ****, how is this information irrelevant when its the truth?

I'm a 40+ year Apple fanboy, and I detest Facebook.

In this case, Apple are wrong, and Facebook have it right.

As a consumer, I appreciate knowing information about where my money is going when I spend it. So if I was going to spend £100 on a takeaway order from a local restaurant, knowing that £30 of this would go directly to Apple would be useful information - and it would actually make me more likely to phone the restaurant and pay them directly.

For Apple to ban Facebook from providing this information, based on the claim that it is "irrelevant", is laughable.

The truth is simply that Apple are trying to protect their revenue stream, using their might and monopoly to bully and get their way.

Siilyness.
Apple is pretty straightforward about where the money goes - its pocket. So there is really zero mystery about where the money goes here. And to call out Apple for being a bully just sjows you're not paying attention to the facts and are just onboard with the mob in Apple-bashing. So you "hate" FB but feel reluctant to criticize them. Okay.

Really? The average user who doesn't follow these things knows that when they purchase an online class through facebook for a local business that is struggling, that the local business is going to lose 30% to a lazy tech giant who isn't doing diddly squat to earn it?

It's in the image. "Facebook doesn't take a fee from this purchase." (No matter what people say that will increase after a year).

Yeah, I'm inclined to believe Facebook 0%. This is clearly another stunt to gang up on Apple. Facebook removes their fee to 0 and calls out Apple at the same time. Petty bs. And timely with them whining about no longer being able to track users across apps.

You missed the point because it is about me and about the others who may want to use facebook but not the app. There are a bunch of us who either don't use facebook and associated apps (like me) or won't install the app. However, there is a reason the facebook app exists on the ios app store.

I'm sure Facebook knew this would be noticed and blocked, but it feeds the media storm. Crazy stuff at the moment. A lot of big names ganging up. It'll be interesting to see how it ends. Fight the fight, Apple :)

At some point names like Nintendo, Xbox, Sony, etc will join Apple seeing every one of them changes 30% to use their platform.

If a user is paying for something, they have a right to know who benifits from having their money.
I can’t think of a single other shop or market place where the cost of something is split to show you who gets what regarding the supply chain. It’s kind of a ridiculous concept to consider under each price tag on a supermarket shelf these things should be listed? Why do you care? Go on, admit it- you just want to see Apple burn for the hell of it

Yes they might laugh but what your forgetting is that the customer has a right to know. If the staff do not know then they are required to give you a contact address of someone who does, they just cannot simply dismiss your enquiry. Usually it requires an email being sent to head office. Just because people do not ask does not mean knowing is not allowed.
But ‘knowing it’ is allowed on the AppStore too. Far easier to find out about than your random example which I suggest you try and see how easy that is in comparison.
Yeah, it's irrelevant. Do you think anybody cares if $3 of your $10 is going to either Apple or Facebook?
Exactly.
I had a friend have his app rejected because in the description he said he would donate all the proceeds to a particular charity. Apple is seriously f'd up here, they are trying to be gatekeeper and it's just pissing everyone off. So they leave.
Sure. I have a friend of a friend who said just the opposite. I wonder which one of us can prove it first.

So Apple lets this one developer take everything, no fees, because this is all going to charity. Soon another developer with an eye towards charity publishes their app. Then another. And then another. Who's to say that all of their profits will actually go to charity? "Well, we are just covering development costs." All it takes is one developer to take advantage of the system, and the wall comes tumbling down.

Oh he can prove it, he has the email. You're just talking ********.
