Mac book Air is not booting

Hi,

Actually my Macbook Air's Hard disk(the complete hard disk) is shared in my Macbook Pro. I wanted to disable it. So I have opened Hard disk view properties and set the hard disk access to "No Access" then the Hard disk icon was turned into folder icon with a not accessible symbol and later on the running application was hang up. So I pressed and held the power button to turn off and then I turned it on. But the Macbook Air is not booting. I could see only white screen with apple logo and whirling a circle but it is not booting up. Can you help me out to resolve this problem.

Thank you.

Screen resolution is decent but still lower than that of the competitors.

Resolution of
GS3= 306 ppi
Nok 920 = 342
IP5 = 326

So iP5 is still competitive in resolution. All things being equal among the three screens and purely based on resolution, I doubt you would be able to discern any difference on a picture or video.

What you will see a difference in, I believe, is in color rendition and perhaps, other qualities, but these are not related to resolution. One technology might be better at displaying certain colors, for example, but they are all high quality displays. We will have to wait until real world comparrissons are in before judging which is better. Can't really make a judgement on specs alone.

I see you believe in bubbles then. Unlimited sustained growth does not exist in business. Apple being conservative to avoid betting the company on massive repeated growth is perfectly reasonable. Eventually, Apple is not going to double their sales every year. Planning for such a repetition just increases the risk at an exponential rate. Frankly, I'm glad Apple is smart enough not to believe in bubbles.

What's more, Apple does not control the laws of time and space. You can only produce iPhones so quickly in factories, and it makes no sense to store tens of millions of units rather than sell them, or build new factories that are needed only for a relatively short period of time.

Two years ago, Apple was producing something like 1.5 iPhones a second. They've no doubt increased their manufacturing capability, but even if they doubled that, Apple has only been making the new iPhones for at most a couple months. We'll never know how many bugs they had to work out, how many units failed testing in the beginning of the new lines at the start of that two month period, how many lines were up and running at the start, etc., but even if every single unit in the last two months were flawless, and every iPhone factory was pumping out only the new iPhone (which clearly isn't be the case, but whatever), that's less than half of the number of iPhones Apple sold in the first quarter of the iPhone 4S. A more realistic estimation of Apple's manufacturing capability for the new iPhone alone, stripping away the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S lines they're still selling, and early defective new iPhones, there's just no way Apple can have possibly made enough iPhones to meet the initial demand.

I'm sure they did their best. For reasons others have outlined, Apple has no incentive to hold back supply, and plenty of incentive to sell as many units as possible as early as possible.

You're just complaining because an Apple spokesperson used some expressive language in a statement to the press. Not a press release, not an official pre-planned statement, just the answer to a reporter asking a question. While I'm sure nobody at Apple (or anyone here for that matter, except a few Androids trolls) is actually surprised they sold off their entire first batch of online supply, is anyone honestly not surprised a how quickly it happened? Of course the iPhone was going to sell out, and do so quickly. But in an hour? I think that's "blown away"-worthy.

Maybe you don't, fine. Is it really worth arguing over the choice of wording here, and reading into it all sorts of secret marketing plans or logistics incompetence? I'll say it again, Apple can only produce iPhones so quickly, and I'm glad they don't believe in the fallacy of unlimited sustained growth.

Fewer than two percent of the posters in this thread made any sense at all. You're in the top 0.5 percent.

Occam's razor, folks. The anti-capitalist paranoid mind control conspiracy theories are fine if you never remove your face from the bong. But in the real world, even the most complex systems are far simpler than the convoluted leaps of logic necessary to sustain the delusions.

Bet this is why when we ordered last night there was no option for store pickup. They anticipate this line coming and having one for pre orders and first come first serve like they did for the 4 sucked. I remember standing out in like for those 4 hours at noon in Summer...sucked

Just four hours? I didn't make the preorder for the iPhone 4, so I ran over to the store at 5am and waited 14 hours. Then they told us they'd run out of their daily allotment. A few people still waited (including me) and I finally got the phone. They also we nice enough to buy us some pizza for waiting so long (which please my dog, no end).

That's why I was ready with the browser the moment Apple made the 5 available for preorder. It's not so much that I want the phone the first day it comes out, but I don't want the hassle of calling the store every day to see if they have any phones available. And if I'm going to buy the phone, I might as well get it as soon as I can so I can enjoy it.

I wonder if deliverability plays a role in pre-orders. I mean, how many packages could UPS and FedEx really deliver on a single day, for a single customer?

I preordered the iPhone 4S last year, early enough to get release day shipping. It wasn't my first iPhone, but it was my first time preordering a major Apple product like that. The FedEx guy looked frazzled, and from our small talk while I signed for the package, I gathered he had been working since early that morning and still had a very long day ahead of him, even though it was already late afternoon.

I remember articles last year about the massive shipping effort involved moving so many iPhones from factories in China to warehouses in the US and then to customers and stores. I'm sure there will be more this year as well, since this one promises to be even bigger. Should be fun to read. Probably lots of overtime and temporary hires.

All that numbers...

People are just stupid, as nobody realizes the facts:

1. Steve is gone and so it isn't the same for the Iphone anymore
Its no Steve Iphone.
2. The style was perfect, with the 4s, 4 - now its really ugly, just compare.
( I really understand why Steve didn't want to change it )

I love Apple products, but the Iphone 5 is an ugly joke.

Wake up brainwashed folks!

I'll wait for the numbers like everyone else but common sense is your friend with this one.

Since when haters have common sense? :p

What's ironic is these are the same guys who's masturbating themselves over (unofficial) Samsung numbers.

You are too concentrated on the phone looks rather than function. You must be an ideal customer for Apple. It's actually quite easy to see a few things that the phone is lacking. NFC is one such obvious thing. Not being able to use LTE data simultaneously with voice is a major let down. Screen resolution is decent but still lower than that of the competitors. Wireless charging would also be nice as would be the use of a standard connector (micro USB/MHL).

Actually, you need to get your facts straight. There are ZERO phones in the US and ZERO LTE networks that do voice over LTE (VoLTE). Verizon has been testing VoLTE, but hasn't rolled it out yet.

On AT&T, when the phone does data and voice simultaneously, it falls back to HSPDA.

Verizon uses a version of CDMA which has NEVER supported simultaneous data and voice. Since Verizon doesn't use HSPDA and no LTE networks support VoLTE, the iPhone 5 will use CDMA for voice and LTE for data. Apple chose to use a CDMA/LTE combined chip in favor of increased battery life.

The Verizon Android phones that had separate chips for CDMA and LTE did voice and data simultaneously, but their battery life sucks because both CDMA and LTE radios were in use simultaneously.

If Apple chose this route, the iPhone 5 would be thicker and have poorer battery life--people would complain about this far more than not having simultaneous voice and data. It's the limitations of the current incarnation of LTE that created this conundrum.

You make the choice that pleases 80% of your customers but disappoints the other 20% vs. the choice which pleases 20% but pisses off the other 80%.

I think Apple made the right choice. I'm sure they would have gone with the have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too route had it been an option.

With respect to NFC, it's a novelty right now. Less than 2% of US retailers have adopted NFC. Once it becomes ubiquitous, I think Apple will include it in their devices.

As for inductive charging, aka "wireless charging," it's also a technology that's still relatively immature and unestablished. It has a lot of disadvantages such as low efficiency (produces waste heat), costly (requires drive electronics/coils in both the device and charger), slower charging, not very convenient (device has to remain on the charging pad with minimal movement for charging to take place), to name a few. This charging method is a nice box to check off on a spec sheet list, though.

Apple is a very conservative company when it comes to adopting technology they feel have not been fully vetted or proven.

When I use my iPhone or iPad, I don't think to myself, "Wow this thing has awesome specs." Rather, it's the pleasant experience and delight I get from using them. Isn't it about the overall experience when it's all said and done? There's a je-ne-sais-quoi quality about it.

This is true. Every year it's going to be harder and harder to top the numbers and when they don't everyone will be screaming that it's the end of Apple.

To be fair, everyone's always screaming about how it's the end of Apple before they release their numbers. What's the difference in them doing it afterwards too?

Even if Apple never sells more iPhones a year than they do right now, Apple can go on and on forever. They can even be just fine with a fair bit of churn. We're still talking tens of millions of phones, all with a nice profit margin. Apple won't be losing money.

But, as Tim Cook is a fan of showing in his Keynote charts, there's a lot of dumb phones out there in the market, and Apple fully believes that all phones will be smart phones some day. Just keeping a reasonable chunk of their current market share, without having to grow it or even sustain it, Apple can keep increasing their sales volume for a rather long time. Then of course you have cell phones replacing land lines, so the cell market itself is growing.

Unlimited sustained growth is not realistic, and I hope plenty will point this fact out when the smart phone market finally saturates and iPhones won't see bigger and bigger numbers every year. But we're not quite there yet. Every huge release cycle does bring us closer, though.

Of course, you have people in these very forums talking about how they own multiple cell phones, sometimes, so maybe there really is no limit to the size of the smart phone market :p.

This could end up being their best selling phone yet! The iPhone 5 does have some very cool features but didn't feel anywhere near as dramatic as the upgrade from the 3GS to the 4.

Denial much ?

I don't use Android. I own an iPhone. 4S. Maybe you should stop trying to pigeonhole everyone.

I find It funny how Apple and Android users mock each other. It's like the 'my god is better than your God' crowd.

I bet you call a lot of people sailor, don't you? :D

Semen Staines, Master Bates and Rodger the cabin boy are his other friends....

Does this mean the next iPhone (6?) is going to sell out in minutes? Perhaps we will have to start pre-ordering pre-orders

For me it ruins the launch apple fanboys saying its best while android fan boys making corny lines get a life I say. I like apple but i always try to hide it if someone buys a Samsung good for them but that doesn't mean i have to buy into it.

you are welcome apple .. now just make sure i get mine on 21st ya?

I agree .. i think maybe they might do that every 4 gens? ... so 4,4s,5,5s and then perhaps 6 will be mind blowing

You are showing figures for pixel density, not resolution.

The resolution of the devices:

GS3 = 1280x720
Nok 920 = 1280x768
iP5 = 1136x640

So the iPhone 5 has the lowest screen resolution of the three phones.

But, it is still quite a few pixels for a phone.

Resolution of
GS3= 306 ppi
Nok 920 = 342
IP5 = 326

So iP5 is still competitive in resolution. All things being equal among the three screens and purely based on resolution, I doubt you would be able to discern any difference on a picture or video.

When 4G LTE came to VZW not too long ago, I made the jump from an AT&T iPhone 4 to Thunderbolt on VZW. While I loved (and still do) my new carrier and the blazing fast data connectivity, I absolutely abhorred my experience with Android. Less than six months after that, I switched back to iPhone like the prodigal (and then repentant) child.

Yesterday, I just pre-ordered my first full-priced iPhone. My wallet may be hurting, but I am definitely excited to experience 4G LTE on a phone that just works. No buyer's remorse here at all. :D

Big android guy for the last 3-4 years.

Tired of the lack of upgrades on android. Every time google updates it's software it takes 3 months for developers to make MOST of the hardware work. The phone manufactures do nothing to help us out (kernel source but no RIL). Seems like iDevices get upgrades at least for a few years and everything will work. Gets old spending countless hours trying to make the OS work. Want an updated OS buy a new phone.

It's also gonna be nice to be able to buy things like speaker docks. Android phones don't have them because no two USB ports are in the same place.

Then to get out of the hardware race. One device is faster better than the other.

AirPlay? What can you say it just works. Switch tv inputs hit the icon and my MacBook, iPad, or iPhone is displayed on the tv wirelessly.

Apps? Lots of them. Buy it for your MacBook use it on your iPad/iPhone.

What I don't understand is why haters don't just stay away. Google plus is full of them. Every CNET post is loaded. Makes Android users seem like a bunch of teenagers. Hoping to move to a device for adults.

This will be my first iPhone and I'm VERY excited about it. This is the iPhone I've been waiting for bigger screen, and LTE. A professionally engineered device. Solid as a rock. A beautiful piece of hardware.

I've become an Apple fanboy..

That's all I got.

Typically Apple releases a new version of iOS when they release a new iPhone once a year (seems it will be each fall now, but that hasn't always been the case). You'll hear all about it at WWDC, which is typically in June, and they'll announce what products will be supported. The pattern seems to be fairly predictable: any product still being sold when the announcement is made will be supported. This will get you three or four generations of iPhones, perhaps two or three iPads, though the iPad line is still fairly young and more of them may be supported going further. The iPod Touch is probably the least supported line because it's basically using old iPhone hardware, but you'll get the last couple generations.

Now with the over-the-air delta updates, upgrading iOS could not be easier. Just go into your settings, hit Software Update. In a few minutes you'll have the latest and greatest, so long as you're not using a device more than three years old.

A few iOS features won't be supported on every device, but that's to be expected. No cell network stuff on devices without cell networks, or using of sensors on devices without those sensors...

I think you'll really enjoy the ecosystem, if you have any other Apple devices. If you don't have any other Apple devices, it won't be long now I'm sure, wahahaha! ;)

But seriously, only Microsoft is really in the same position as Apple to have their software on all of your devices. Critics call it lock-in, but there are significant advantages. Having been spoiled by Mac OS X and iOS working together so well (not to mention stuff like Airplay, Apple TV, etc.), if Apple suddenly went out of business, I wouldn't go to Android, I'd go to an all-Windows/XBox solution. I wouldn't like it as much, but it'd be better than having such a disjointed experience straddling multiple platforms.

The haters are certainly a remarkable phenomenon. I like Apple products, but I don't seek out dedicated sites for other platforms and try to tear them down or just talk endlessly about Apple products being better. I'd rather spend my free time on more positive pursuits, and let other people use the sorts of products they enjoy in peace. All I can figure is there's some insecurity there, but where it's comes from I have no idea.

Anyway, welcome to iOS! I'm not getting the latest iPhone, but it certainly looks quite nice and I hope you enjoy it.

Eventually this nonsense will end. Maybe 7 years from now.

Ohhhhhhh ....The New iPhone .

Ok , Maybe if you have a 3GS I could see the Upgrade.

If you have a 4 , I would wonder whats wrong with you.

If you have a 4S and you are Upgrading !!!.......I KNOW WHATS WRONG WITH YOU ...and its sad
