Eventually this nonsense will end. Maybe 7 years from now.

Ohhhhhhh ....The New iPhone .

Ok , Maybe if you have a 3GS I could see the Upgrade.

If you have a 4 , I would wonder whats wrong with you.

If you have a 4S and you are Upgrading !!!.......I KNOW WHATS WRONG WITH YOU ...and its sad
Lol what?

The 5 is significantly better than the 4S. Whether it's worth it for someone depends on what they want. For some LTE is reason enough, others the new SoC or larger screen. I'm keeping my 3GS because I only need it for calling and such, my iPad gets used for everything else.

Is it possible to have the estimated ship date from 2-3 weeks to change to less weeks in the coming days/week?

I have a 4S and upgrading, I had an upgrade avail from AT&T and gazelle is giving me a hundred over what gave for the 4, I then last year swapped it for a 4S at RadioShack when they did their trade in promotion ( had a trade in then too, two lines on my plan but ones a dummy phone my aunt has in her car for emergencies) so since the 4 I've gotten a new handset each year and actually starting to making my money back... It would be fiscally irresponsible not to upgrade! Lol

These posts are hilarious. You can spot some variant across any given tech discussion forum. The longtime Apple fan who has just had it. Up. To. Here.

And they're making for the greener pastures of Android Land.

Well, if you're for real, best of luck. I've owned an Android phone and it sucked. Hard. But I know that's just an opinion so it's purely subjective. However, looking over consumer surveys, you'll see a high percentage of Android users planning to buy an iPhone next, and far, far fewer going the other direction. And you'll also see lots of very high numbers when it comes to iPhone user satisfaction.

But you already know that. I suspect your outrage is fake and meant to upset people here. But if it's real, it's very definitely misguided.

Like I said though, good luck with the clusterf$&@ called Android. You will most definitely need it.

Yeah, they're all so similar, and the accounts seem to appear only right around a big release, then disappear until the next one. Since so many people are proposing an Apple conspiracy theory, how about I propose a conspiracy theory of my own.

Google has all these bots that can work their way through forums, right? Comment sections, websites of all kinds talking about technology, they're crawling through the whole internet, indexing sites for their search engine. Google also has done all this research figuring out natural human language, to do stuff like figuring out who is a human, and who is a spambot trying to get higher PageRank by linking to certain pages all over.

Wouldn't it be easy for Google to create bots that target forums and news article comments with astroturf comments in favor of Google's products and services, using reasonably human-sounding posts? Google would know just what the popular sites are to target, they'd know immediately when a news article or thread is posted someplace relevant to their commercial interests because they're constantly crawling the web, and they have the natural language skills to produce convincing comments.

It's actually more feasible than Apple producing enough iPhones to meet initial market demand.

Title should be Samsung blow away by iphone pre-order CEO has a hissy fit. ;)

Or people have money to burn. :D and they have wanted a bigger ok longer phone for some time so they put down the cash which they will make back in one or two days of work and gives them another year of ecstasy way better than drinking it at a bar or buying some lame football tickets and hanging out with the yelling crowed. To each their own would you not say? :)

A $5000 watch is a luxury item, or a $1500 wallet. A smart phone that costs $200 is not really considered a luxury good in that sense.

Well, first of all, it's like $650. For a phone. It's just subsidized.

But it feels like a luxury item, does it not? Apple markets it that way, customers treat it like one. A luxury item is anything that a person does not need.

Is there anyone out there that needs an iPhone? Of course not. People buy one because they want it, because it gives them a level of convenience they wouldn't otherwise have, and it's used in many cases as a symbol of status or wealth. This isn't some cheap generic phone, it's an iPhone.

The fact that, yes, people can have one for $200, which isn't too bad in the struggling economy, makes it a luxury item that somebody is fairly happy to buy, in a time when maybe they're holding off on getting a new car, or going out to fancy restaurants, or buying popcorn when they go to the movies. That was my point about luxuries in a recession.

They're "blown away" every year. If you really think they didn't expect this, I have moon property I'm willing to part with on the cheap.

Really? That's awesome! Sign me up! I didn't know they were selling property on the moon....?

You guys are so lucky to get hours to order it. Over here it sells out within minutes because of all the scalpers using bots and several accounts to buy up all the stock right away :(

What's all the fuss about....

So the iPhone will not change in shape or design ...it's pretty much perfect..so don't expect much change there...unlike iPod nano...io6 will be available for 4 and 4s ?...5 has a6 chip...but is there much else to shout about? How about wireless charging...finger print recognition or face recognition instead of pin security...Samsung have had this for ages so I'm told....

So what else could the 5 have had to make this phone better...your answers please?

One thing forgot..seeing the video of how the iPhone is made just goes to show the quality..which we sometimes take for granted...and to produce such quality in the millions !

You don't need marketing when you establish yourself and make great products. It's just an excuse the haters like yourself make to explain why Apple is so successful.

It's pretty funny, actually. In one moment, they're complaining about Apple being nothing but a marketing machine, and in the next, they're complaining about Apple users marketing on Apple's behalf.

If Apple just had clever marketing, and that's all they had going for them, wouldn't those Apple users be the first to complain about Apple products being bad and how they were suckered? But that doesn't happen. Apple users are genuinely happy with what they bought, and want to share their good experiences with others.

Clearly there's more going on here than the narrow-minded view of the Apple haters. Too bad they're so narrow-minded, this post will go way over their heads.

Lol... I once left my iPhone at home for a week when I went on holiday.. there is so much more you can do with your life....trolling the web while in Starbucks...I actually socialised with people who weren't on there devices....which was very few...they are convenient, but bloody unsociable ?

OMG

they sell out in an hour and the best you can say it they are doomed

Well stated. At the rate in which technology is moving forward at this pace, most of the phone improvements will be evolutionary rather than revolutionary. There is so much you could improve upon the existing technology. Larger screen? Well, too larger and it turns into an ipad. Thinner Phone? Well, there is a limit to that as well unless you want to wear your phone on your wrist or around your neck, which may not be a far-fetched idea in the future. Faster microprocessors and higher resolution screens? Yes, for now, that will be the trend. One thing many seem to miss is that as long as there is profits to be made with the existing technology, Apple or any other company for that matter, will not introduce new technologies even though they may already exist. This explains why Apple's approach to innovative technology is incremental.

Not to mention a lot of their customers are on 2 year contracts. Yes, there's the rabid fans who upgrade every year and pay more money for the privilege, but if you compare the new iPhone to the iPhone 4, there's a lot there. Similarly in a year, the next new iPhone will be significantly better than the iPhone 4S, and the iPhone 4S was significantly better than the 3GS. People don't take these products in the proper context when they talk about what's new.

A lupe warm upgrade - not the one I was hoping for. Once the novelty is gone and with that the initial stocks the greater public will realize that the iPhone (5?) is not anymore the "game" changing phone as it used to be (I still love the 3GS).

I need te renew my mobile phone subscription soon, but seriously doubt if I will opt for an iPhone 5.

Do you think that has anything to do with it? If they sold the 4S and called it the iPhone 5 the sales numbers would still have been huge. What the phone actually is has little to do with it anymore. People will buy it anyway.

I don't think Apple believes that, or they would do just that, and save a lot on development costs. This may be why Apple is "blown away", they don't buy into the hype so many people here seem to think exists.

How is iPhone5 innovative?

From software side – Siri. Siri was beta software and probably now will be full blown release in iOS6. It introduces better information, dictation, EyeFree features and is clearly designed to use the new additional noise canceling mics in iPhone 5. Its only now graduates the beta stage and we'll see it in its real form.

iCloud: I don’t know what was expected from it. In my usage, it seamlessly crossovers bookmarks, contacts, scheduling, mail on my iPhone, iPad and desktop, all in real time. It works fine and now introduces new feature – photo sharing, like Instagram. It also allows for cloud backup and restore, music storage, documents sync though I don’t use those features but good to know its there.

Coming iOS6- As far as I know it brings not only updated Siri and iCloud, but also introduces Passbook, a software equivalent of NFC chips, completely new Apple Maps software, newest Safari with full screen view (which has been great on desktop), Facetime integrated with Messages and over cellular, system wide Facebook integration, systemwide wireless printing and wireless media streaming, new mail software, all in one new release.

On hardware side: I don’t know what earth shuttering features you were looking for. 4 inch screen for iOS devices is a new size and resolution with Retina display, which itself is new, with built in sensors, IGZO technology, probably first in the market, brighter, thinner and with better colors.

The iPod line is also redesigned with new larger Retina, dual CPU, better camera, new headphones.

Camera on iPhone has new sensor. It introduces panoramic mode and low light dynamic mode and improved image stabilization. As a camera hobbyist, let me tell you that people are buying PS cameras now for such features and it requires new BSI sensors and faster lens. Now we have it in iPhone and this is great new additions to already very good iPhone camera. I don’t know if you know about BSI sensors but these are latest crop of sensors which require less light and produce much better pictures even when its dark specifically designed for smaller cameras (not DSL). Conventional camera phones and even PS can’t deliver it but iPhone 5 can.

Finally, newest in the world mobile CPU and GPU, twice faster than iPhone4S and faster than SG3, true Global LTE, integrated Panorama mode, and all this in a lighter and thinner package? Seems good enough for me.

When was the last time Sam(e)sung was blown away? Hmm??

Samsung are the market leader and the Koreans are selling more units than Apple. Just get over it.

Also, in case you haven't noticed it, Apple did not publish any numbers. Were they "blown away" because they sold 100000 phones or were it a million phones? Shallow marketing bla bla just fails to impress me.

Samsung sells many models including low end which cost as low as 100 dollar unlocked. I counted about 20 only current models.
http://www.samsung.com/in/consumer/mobile-phone/mobile-phone/smartphone
Apple has only 2 models, in which only current was made public just few days ago.
Despite it, both Samsung and Apple grew in last quarter. Yes Samsung grew more and is market leader.

I knew this would be a huge launch. The smartphone market has grown generally. Plus lots of iPhone users just stuck with 3gs and 4 as the 4S was just a refresh. Now they are ready to buy.

Plus, the iPad has been a huge 'halo effect' factor as lots of people bought them as their first Apple product. I have a friend who's first smartphone was an HTC Desire, then he got an iPad, bought a bunch of apps for it. What phone does he want to upgrade to now?

You are too concentrated on the phone looks rather than function. You must be an ideal customer for Apple. It's actually quite easy to see a few things that the phone is lacking. NFC is one such obvious thing. Not being able to use LTE data simultaneously with voice is a major let down. Screen resolution is decent but still lower than that of the competitors. Wireless charging would also be nice as would be the use of a standard connector (micro USB/MHL).

NFC... to be used where exactly? Where is this magical land where everyone uses digital wallets to buy everything? I want to go to there.

You can use LTE data simultaneously with voice if you're on a decent network. It's just a couple bad ones using substandard wireless technology that don't have that capability. Don't think that's Apple's fault.

When you can no longer see the pixels, screen resolution becomes meaningless while costing more in processor and battery use for no user benefit. I take it you want an arbitrary screen size increase that decreases usability for people with average thumbs?

Wireless charging necessitates two things: longer charging times, and bulkier charging equipment. Oh, and goodbye wired sync. Where is the advantage in having this technology? I agree it's cool and scifi-y, but Apple doesn't do things unless they benefit the customer, or at least do no harm. What would wireless charging do to the peripheral market of speakers and such you can plug your iPhone/iPod/iPad into? Force them to go all wireless and more expensive? If they wanted to do that, they would have been far better off doing a MagSafe type power-only connector, and forget about data entirely. MagSafe would have been much better than wireless, due to the smaller size of the charging equipment, and frankly it'd be cooler too.

Micro USB sucks. It can't do half the things Apple likes doing with its connector. If all you want to do is charge or sync, fine, but the Lightning port is capable of a lot more (see above about iPhone-compatible peripherals). Well, except you couldn't use it to charge an iPad, either, due to the low power, so just sync I guess.

That was my point about luxuries in a recession.

But it's not just a phone. Its also a gaming device, a compass, a navigation unit, a music player, a flashlight, a scanner, a PDA, a banking token, an internet tethering device...... and countless other things. And contrary to popular belief, an iPhone is not expensive, not more than other flagship devices. They just use the economy of scale to make big margins. But I can assure you that they have just the right margin to make the most profit. If they could sell 3 times the iPhones if they reduced their margin by 50%, they would.

People don't need a lot of stuff we now take for granted, but we still use them and don't consider them luxury items. By your logic, toilet paper is a luxury item because you could just as well go out and pick up a leaf or two to wipe. For free. But in the end you spend money because it is convenient. And it's the exact same thing with the iPhone or any other smartphone.

People are just stupid, as nobody realizes the facts:

1. Steve is gone and so it isn't the same for the Iphone anymore
Its no Steve Iphone.
2. The style was perfect, with the 4s, 4 - now its really ugly, just compare.
( I really understand why Steve didn't want to change it )

I love Apple products, but the Iphone 5 is an ugly joke.

Wake up brainwashed folks!

Apple didn't just decide last week to make a new iPhone. The sixth generation iPhone has been in development for years. Steve Jobs was still alive when this phone was being worked on. He was also probably still alive when the seventh generation iPhone was being worked on, and maybe the 8th too.
