Prediction: folks who have ordered online within the first 24 hours will receive a new iPhone 5 on the 21st. Give or take a few botched shipping, upgrade elegibility, or general e-commerce technology glitches. Until we hear definitively from Apple and/or Wireless providers(excluding some generic remarks from an Apple spokes person or customer service reps), I see no reason to think otherwise.

That would be amazing for the early buyers.

o_O Defensive much. When did I ever critisize Apple? I love my Apple products, thank you very much.

Edit: So you're just one of those that if someone does not only mention positive things about Apple, he must be a Samsung drone and spend his whole day shooting down Apple. I understand now, thank you.

You're siding with the conspiracy theorist who think they intentionally short stock to artificially raise demand aren't you?

You have to admit what I said was funny though. ㅋㅋㅋ :p

Sorry, your humor didn't amuse me. I never said Apple did that, only said it was possible...

Out of topic, are you Korean?

I think I know why some people are so averse to Apple using the phrase "blown away" to describe their reaction to initial iPhone pre-orders...

They thought it was unlikely that the folks at Apple were LITERALLY blown away by the news! We all know Tim Cook is not flying around in the air like a leaf right now!

;)

No, just noticed you were.

Edit: I still say it was funny. Come on, the front cam steals your soul! Ok...guess I just crack myself up.

Expected or not, they still have a reason to celebrate as they achieved their goal of selling out.

.....I also suggest you stay far away from Apple stores and never look into the camera of an iPhone because that's how Apple steals your soul!....

lol....in fact, thats how my soul got stolen. i was a strong anti apple guy. went to buy an android tablet, were slow, buggy...and was disappointed. went to buy an ipad for a colleague and then decided to buy one for myself the next day!
and after a year, i have ipad, iphone and mbp :p i just looked into the camera...and my soul got stolen ;)

What did I miss

Guys who comment nonsense about demand, short supplies, conspiracies, etc, etc.

Please facepalm yourselves, I can't do it for you, It would take me years!!

Happy most of you will have your phones!

Me on the other hand I have to wait another month, here's my story:

Every year (12 months) I am eligible to upgrade at the discounted price ($299 for 32GB etc) However last year, Apple released the iPhone 4S in October, this year last week.

So I'm not eligible yet as it seems. But being that I pay over (the secret price you can find on Google) on my primary line and my account has always been in good standing I know I'll be able to upgrade in October. Just seems so far away.

Anyone else in my same boat?

Nope , I get free phones from every company. Every cycle. Every time. And they pay for the Data. I guess I'm kinda lucky but I have enough money so it really doesn't matter either way

That makes no sense. Are you saying the retail store overhead would be the same regardless of whether Apple could satisfy all online preorders?

You're making the classic MR mistake. Looking at the situation in a binary fashion. I'm not saying the overhead would be the same, nor I have stated Apple can fill all online pre-orders.

I'm saying that if they dumped their entire initial batch on day 1 instead of trickling it out and spreading it over a 1 to 2 weeks period, they would still require additionnal staffing to meet extra demand, push those extra units out (no matter if online or retail) and run the risk of ending up with no shortage on launch day.

Most of your case is premised on Apple's intend to increase retail store frenzy by cutting off online preorders. The more you burden stores, the higher the overhead.

The premise is to create both a shortage online and in stores. Doesn't matter if you do though, the fact remains : You're going to be selling a lot of phones in a short period. You'll need the extra overhead anyhow. However, by holding back a bit, you get that frenzy generating shortage out of it.

Again, no need to hold back for months and keep warehouses of unshipped phones. Just spreading it out over the course of a week, sending phones out every day to stores is enough.

With all of these iPhone5 pre-orders, do you guys think it will take longer for other Apple products to ship since the iPhone 5's are so high in demand?

Except when they announce that the initial sales of the iPhone 5 beat the sales of the iPhone 4S by a good margin. ;)

Don't be fooled, the numbers will show they sold more iPhone 5s and did it faster than with the iPhone 4S.

And guess what, next year we get to have this thread again, when Apple is "blown away" by demand for the iPhone 6 and couldn't have possibly predicted, yet again, a surge in sales.

Maybe, maybe not. People pretty much believe what they want to believe. I have an ex sister in-law who surfs the web all day and posts conspiracy theories to Facebook non-stop. She believes Obama and Romney are part of the same Bilderberg group and are only puppets giving the people a false choice. You are a lot like her, in that she believes she is one step ahead of the con. The world is run by a machiavellian master mind who is one step ahead of most everyone but her. You seem smart and from what I've read, you do a lot of research on the web. I guess to an extent it is wise to be cynical, but then who can you really trust? Where does cynicism end, and paranoia begin? I don't know. You may be right. The only way to prove it would be for Phil Schiller to come out and say: "Yeah it's all a big con". Until then i'm agnostic. :)

No sir. Not a conspiracy. Just feel the dates folks are seeing are not accurately reflecting the inventory that is or will be available. Just Feel that the e-commerce technology used to reflect the dates you are seeing is not scaled to handle the volume of orders. Over the course of the next week the technology will catch up so that what you see in terms of shipping estimates will more closely match available inventory.

I think you've missed the entire conversation and jumped to some incorrect conclusions over what we were talking about.

But what you are saying sounds like a plausible explanation regarding why shipping times seem to be so dynamic....aka jacked. :p
