The number of Macs in my life is steadily increasing. It started with my brother getting a MacBook in 2007, since then it has exploded. Then I followed, and my GF, three close friends, my GFs sister, and then all managers, developers and sales at my work.
It's changed from obscurity to the norm in just 3 years.

i think lion with the whole emphasis of integrating ios features onto os x might help get even more people to switch, if they're already using a ios device they might make the plunge on their desktop too. apple should really capitalize on this and bump up the advertising a bit for the macs.

I wonder if it will ever go above 15%? Well Lion help? Macbook Air for $499? iMacs with i7 CPUs for $999? More commercials? Steve Jobs as a cyborg? Daily Apple Media events on every TV channel in the home?

I like the $999 imac i7s but a cyborg Steve Jobs I'm not so sure about. Then we'd have to have a cyborg Bill Gates etc and it would never end. They'd still be arguing thousands of years into the future.

They should include sales of the iPad as that's taking sales from the other PC manufacturers.

Only some iPad sales correspond to a lost computer sale. Some people get them as an extra. Also remember that both PC and Mac sales could be reduced- when our MBs die my gf and I are planning on one Mac and one iPad. Plus, should we add galaxy sales to Samsung's sales?

Too complex to calculate!

Apple actually used to have a bigger share in US market. So "you never go back" paradigm clearly is incorrect ;)

Okay, so Keanu and a couple other guys switched back. Big deal... Oh what's this? I just got word that Mr. Reeves has once again switched! We take you live from West Hollywood:

Keanu Reeves said:
"I just got this new laptop, it's called an Apple or whatever. Much much better than that Mac thing. Whoa, cheeseburger."

The phrase "I run two businesses" says it all. Those are not very big businesses, right? I am sure there are businesses that use just smart phones (or even not so smart phones). If it's more than just Web interface and printing, Windows becomes almost a must.

 I don't think "I run two businesses" says anything about the size of the businesses. See "Jobs, Steve."

But maybe you missed the question that I've asked you a couple times. What "incentives" are causing colleges to "push Macs"? Or did you just make up some FUD to try and support your point?

Sorry for the late response. You know nothing. We have 22 computers. That's close enough to the 30 Macs the one guy said gave their IT all the trouble that I think warranted a response with experience to the contrary. I have no problems. We network, we run business software, we use the web, we connect to scientific instruments, etc. As far as "not very big businesses", let's just say that when two people talk about money, one will have hurt feelings. Probably not me.

We're only 13 days into the new year, you already know how much people want to spend on a computer for this year? Proof? Don't take this too personally but I don't think you get out much. I just went tried out a new coffee house near a college campus and in the lounge the place was full of Macbooks. In fact there at least 20 Macbooks and I may have seen one PC notebook and one netbook. College students are generally "starving" so, for so many of them to have a Mac somebody is spending the money on them.
Most places I frequent are dominated by Macbooks, not cheap PC's.

While I am not going to call out someone for "not getting out much," I will certainly agree with you that perhaps someone may be a bit myopic when citing people that build high-end gaming computers as the only people spending above $1000 on a computer. A recent study showed Apple owning over 90% of the higher than $1,000 computer market.

Also, like you, I am seeing more and more anecdotal evidence of the rise of Macs across demographics. I travel a great deal for work. When I am visiting cities around the United States, I will often be put up by clients in hotels located in the more exclusive neighborhoods near their offices. A recent visit to Chicago had me going into nearby Starbucks throughout the week. Each time, the Starbucks were packed with 20+ MacBook-using individuals. I made a concerted effort to spot any Wintel machines and spotted a grand total of one Vaio the whole time. Being a bit of a coffeephile, I spent some off time hunting down local coffee houses with in-house roasters; most were located in the more Bohemian/hipster neighborhoods. In all of them, too, I would see an army of Mac users and nary a Wintel machine.

Well done, Apple.
It's nice to know my store was a part of that success
over the last four years. Hopefully other American companies
will learn from Apple's way of doing business.

... Let's just say that when two people talk about money, one will have hurt feelings. Probably not me.

That's pretty funny.

I like how everyone is an IT security/enterprise expert. IT cares about security and software for the most part. MAC's are just another wrinkle into an already complicated enterprise security plan to begin with (for large companies 1,000 plus users/assets). Depending on how hard it is to get any environment to assimilate into your current operating one, it could actually require more IT support. Anyone could integrate mac's, linux, etc into a small network (500 users, even smaller hardware footprint) into a single location. With some work forces changing drastically and physically that doesn't really bode well for MAC's which don't really scale well into today's larger networks.
I swear, in the 1980s people wrote internal applications in machine code so they only functioned on specific computers. Now, with more robust computers, internal applications are less computer specific.

Since Macs require far less futzing with to keep running, it takes a smaller IT department. Smaller department means smaller kingdom which immerses the IT department further into the corporate structure, which is a bad thing for the IT head. Hence the resistance.
good for them, however some people seem to miss this is just sales and in the US only.

HP is on top as Apple lags last go figure

HP does take better care of the product after the sale, Apple is a one timer to many who will never purchase another product. Sure there are hardliners but the people who try to get support will return to Windows as the Apple plays games for the kids. The Imac is nothing to brag about for the money it cost. I think my two year old HP Quad core beats the new Imac hands down for half the money. But I got A IMac, That felt good saying that I guess. They make a lot of money off the 100% profit margins. Go buy a Imac and a Ipad 3

Welp guys, this is it.

This is when black hats all over the world begin to go full throttle on the Mac OS platform.

Forget everything you thought you knew about security. It's irrelevant now. The growth is too irresistible. Suit up with a good anti virus. I hear Norton is pretty good....

We're all doomed.

Words of wisdom. All hail.

Macs 2011 market share is not pretty

As of May 2011 Mac computers are still losing market share, They may have great sales for Ipads and Iphones but the Computer business is not so good according to Forbes, Fortune and other sources. Sure would like to see them put same effort in the Mac line as they do in the Ipad or Iphone. The new Sandy Bridge is far behind the PC market but it will be replaced in a few months again like they always do. They already have the next models boxed and ready to sell when sales slump with any Apple Product. The stock holders like it.

FUD or ignorance? Macs have increased their market share for 20 consecutive quarters.
