News flash-every single product at every single tech company faces "development challenges." That's why it's called product DEVELOPMENT. It's why Apple is spending well over a BILLION dollars a month on research and DEVELOPMENT. You don't simply sit down around a table, write specs and send it to the factory and VOILA! a new tech product. LOL.

And one more thing- please stop falling for the fake news by pundits where they tell you their unidentified "sources" tell them something about a delay.

Or it could simply be that these "development challenges" are inserted randomly into the context in order to create expectation. "Let's wait and see what Apple will be offering us"

Apple branded? So, why did Apple buy Beats? This makes no sense.

Apple bought beats for the contacts and credibility it’s founders has in the music industry, that helped and speeded up Apple Music. Probably also to inherit the licenses and contracts the streaming service from the same company had.
 
Ever since Apple acquired beats, EVERYTHING music related has been screwed up. Does it keep beats? Does it incorporate it into iTunes? Do we have a radio streaming service called Beats? Do we keep selling Apple AirPods next to Beats? Do we put the Wireless chip into Beats?

Seriously Apple has no idea what it's doing. It should have integrated it into the Apple brand and R.I.P Beats, move on, and keep things consistent. Because fragmentation is destroying Apple. Seriously how many Laptop models do we need now that serve the same purpose?
Because the Beats brand has a high appeal to a specific market segment, and is profitable. They'd be incredibly stupid to retire that branding. It's also not as complicated as you make it out to be: A youth-targeted line of audio accessories, and an online radio station. That's all it is.

Probably nothing every engineering team faces challenges when developing a new product. It happens in hardware, it happens in software. The simple fact that Apple historically is a company that release a new big product once a decade, and maybe 2-3 medium and smaller products in the same decade should tell you that’s always been like this. Why do you think multi touch products have been in the works for >10 years before being released? Because they got them right at the first try and the just decided to wait?

Sure must be why Apple Music is so unsuccessful and nobody buys AirPods... and probably also the reason why Beats products don’t earn a cent of profit for Apple...

Granted, he'd most likely go on a tangent and photoshop the headphones carved out of an actual apple or something equally ridiculous, but he's good most of the time. I promise.

Ha. I know. First thing I thought was "those will start at $549."

I've been in the market for couple of years for some BT over-ear headphones. I had been holding off in hopes of an Apple offering - under the assumption they would play nice in my Apple ecosystem. Finally pulled the trigger on the Plantronics Backbeat Pro 2. At $120 (Amazon), was a no-brainer (for me). A nice sounding, feature-rich option they comes it at less than 1/2 the price of the Sonys and Boses of the world.
 
I'm afraid to find out what "High end" does mean for Apple these days

In the iPhone line, it means priced over US$1200, very fragile, very heavy, too big to fit in any pocket of your shirt or pants, no ports, no charing or docking accessories, "reasonable" battery life, all parts fused or stuck together, no Apple Store replaceable parts, etc.!

On the Mac side, overly thin, only one type of cheaply constructed (read plastic) TB3 port, keyboard unnecessarily modified to fail and stuck to the top case, refreshingly light, screen stuck to connecting flex-cable, battery stuck to main case, (soon) no more headphone jack, AC+ with deductible (like car or health insurance), all non-SOC parts soldered to the motherboard, no modifiable parts on the desktop, no SD card reader, a ridiculous specs at entry level inflating the price to three-time the base price by the time customization is done and a cycle of refresh every 4-5 years - longer on desktops.

So, for that headphone, easy on the eye construction, very fragile and needing AC+, expensive at $450 with a $300 deductible, fused battery not replaceable so limited life, no wired connection option, weak cables contacts inside, headband breaking easily after 250 "flex" cycles just as soon as the warranty runs out, audio levels not customizable, costing more than $1200 (everyone can afford that price these days, can't they - per Apple), no connecting cables or charger for the USB-C connector, no carry case (custom case available for $250), no noise-reduction and only available in white.

Why make a pair of Apple branded headphones, isn't that why they bought beats? Surely that's the channel through which they should be designing and selling this sort of product, otherwise what was the point of spending $3BN for a headphone brand?

Have you walked the streets of the top 30 urban cities in America? The Beats brand is worth 100 times more than all of the generations of your family since they came from ellis.
