Some people don't like the Beats brand. For reasons.
I guess but it seems to be a bit of blunder to spend so much purchasing a brand and then not push it - surely by now everyone knows that basically Beats headphones = Apple headphones anyway? In the same way that if you buy a Skoda everyone knows it's basically a VW...

Dammit. Just picked up the Sony 1000XM3's for $299 on a MassGenie deal.

Would gladly pay $100 more for Apple branded ones that have equal or better audio & noise canceling + W1 wireless chip technology. By far the worse part of the 1000XM3 experience is connecting via bluetooth and its limitation of only connecting to one device at a time. You have to unpair and repair to switch to another device. To go between my Macbook & iPhone with the 1000XM3 is a pure pain in the ass.
Are you confusing pairing and connecting?

Pairing is normally only done once for a particular device and involves pass code handshakes. Any Bluetooth device I have used is able to pair with multiple devices.

In the iPhone line, it means priced over US$1200, very fragile, very heavy, too big to fit in any pocket of your shirt or pants, no ports, no charing or docking accessories, "reasonable" battery life, all parts fused or stuck together, no Apple Store replaceable parts, etc.!

On the Mac side, overly thin, only one type of cheaply constructed (read plastic) TB3 port, keyboard unnecessarily modified to fail and stuck to the top case, refreshingly light, screen stuck to connecting flex-cable, battery stuck to main case, (soon) no more headphone jack, AC+ with deductible (like car or health insurance), all non-SOC parts soldered to the motherboard, no modifiable parts on the desktop, no SD card reader, a ridiculous specs at entry level inflating the price to three-time the base price by the time customization is done and a cycle of refresh every 4-5 years - longer on desktops.

So, for that headphone, easy on the eye construction, very fragile and needing AC+, expensive at $450 with a $300 deductible, fused battery not replaceable so limited life, no wired connection option, weak cables contacts inside, headband breaking easily after 250 "flex" cycles just as soon as the warranty runs out, audio levels not customizable, costing more than $1200 (everyone can afford that price these days, can't they - per Apple), no connecting cables or charger for the USB-C connector, no carry case (custom case available for $250), no noise-reduction and only available in white.

Maybe it's time to find another phone/computer/accessories manufacturer and bring some happiness to your life? It's not too late.

Pssst, @Joe Rossignol, I got you covered, mate.

News flash-every single product at every single tech company faces "development challenges." That's why it's called product DEVELOPMENT. It's why Apple is spending well over a BILLION dollars a month on research and DEVELOPMENT. You don't simply sit down around a table, write specs and send it to the factory and VOILA! a new tech product. LOL.

And one more thing- please stop falling for the fake news by pundits where they tell you their unidentified "sources" tell them something about a delay.
The problem is the “fake news” is a problem for everyone these days. They need to get their PR people on top of this sort of thing. It’s going to add a little more tarnish to their image.

Also, fake news was not behind the embarrassment of the charging pad delay. That was all on Apple which announced it far too prematurely. And given it had been announced why on earth has it taken well over a year to get it to market.

It’s now been so long my memory is no longer sure but weren’t people also promised a modular pro desktop of some sort?

There's one critical detail you're misunderstanding: Beats headphones aren't just something someone listens to music on, they're a fashion accessory. A key part of the reason people buy them is for that logo.

Is it shallow? Absolutely. But that's beside the point. Apple would lose a whole ton of customers if they took that logo off.

Also, they do push the Beats brand. Just not in the places you're looking.

Sure, so why the need to produce :apple: headphones rather than making it clear that Beats=Apple?

Probably nothing every engineering team faces challenges when developing a new product. It happens in hardware, it happens in software. The simple fact that Apple historically is a company that release a new big product once a decade, and maybe 2-3 medium and smaller products in the same decade should tell you that’s always been like this. Why do you think multi touch products have been in the works for >10 years before being released? Because they got them right at the first try and the just decided to wait?
The problem is they’re not meeting even internal target dates and that fact is getting out to the press. Someone at Apple needs to address some part of that issue.

Beats/Bose is $350 for their noise cancelling similar ones so this will be priced higher. Everyone will whine then probably buy them.

They faced development challenges causing a delay. That sounds familiar. What’s going on with their engineering teams these days?
How can something that was never announced be delayed? Even if Apple internally has a 2018 release date they never announced anything publicly so it’s not a delay for consumers.

The bought them for their people, not their products.
What Beats people are still at Apple? Isn’t Apple Music mostly run by existing iTunes executives?

It’s not anything to consumers at all until leaks like this get out and then we all talk about it. ;)

Still something that’s never officially announced with a release date can’t be delayed. AirPower is delayed. The white iPhone 4 was delayed. Rumored headphones that haven’t been announced can’t be. Why should I as an end consumer care about Apple’s internal product timelines?

They're still around in advisory roles in some capacity, but they accomplished what they were brought on to do. People like that get bored after a while and move on to new projects.
