The upgrade from 6490 to the 6750 on the low-end 15 inch makes all the difference in gaming. The 6750 is so much better. And it comes with double the memory to!

I ordered a new one on wednesday, should I cancel my order or expect to receive the new one? :confused:

Ring apple store and if it's not been dispatched already, they'll probably send you the new one! Or receive the package, don't open it and take it to your nearest Apple store which will probably replace it for you there and then! They are good like that. If you don't live near an Apple store, ring the Apple store online and ask for a return within 2 weeks for a full refund and order the new one. hell, even if you open it within 2 weeks you can return it but I wouldn't do that if you know you want something else instead

They needs to get hot, because they cool down with the unibody aluminum case as well, sure you fell hot but its colder inside. Remember also to keep it on a surface where it can dissipate like a table, not on your legs, bed, second skin ecc. At least when you're doing heavy tasks.

True... I purchased, although rather ugly looking, a Trust desktop stand than not only keeps it at at least 10 degrees cooler. It also elevates the screen up to eye level.

PS I also have installed smcFanControl and customised the settings for if it gets too hot under heavy tasks.

Just thought I'd say :)

The major effect of the upgrade for people who purchased the high end 15 will be on resale, as the low end 15 now sells at that price point.

Hmm i just bought a MBA 13" 128 gb. Should i return it and get one of the new MBP 13"?

Depends on what you want your machine for! I have both a 2011 MBA 13" 128GB and 15' MBP and whilst I never take my MBP out of the house, I love having the extra real estate (and it is shared with the family). But if it's portability you want, the MBA is the real deal. And the 2011 version is no slouch on processing speed so I would not want to trade mine for a MBP

What about the GPU? BTW I totally agree, but it is an issue if you ordered less than week ago.

A very uninspiring update :/ I guess I'll wait for the Ivy Bridge MBPs next year.

Also, anyone else noticed that they haven't put the little "New" icon above the MacBook Pros on the store page, like they usually do?

It's just a spec bump to keep them current until the real update next year. It makes sense, since the 2.3GHz i5 was starting to fall behind. Anyway, it's possible the Ivy Bridge model will see a complete redesign.

If I'd only ordered the previous version high end 15 within the past week and could return without penalty, I would reorder the low end 15 and save the cash for ram. I'm not a gamer and even at this point the low end seems to fit that bill fine also.

Only a small and silent update, but very, very good actually. Makes the MBP line far, far better value for money for the average user. As said by many, the 6750M is a lot, lot faster.

What about the iMac ?
I plan to buy one in the next few Weeks. Will there be also a minor bump?
No. No need for it, nothing to bump the speed up to really, and it's only just been updated in May. You'll be seeing a major update around May next year, but nothing until then in all likelihood.

4GB RAM in 2011?

Come on, Apple! We need 8GB RAM as standard configuration!

Why? Apple computers have always needed less, and there isn't any software using 8GB at once. I kind of learned this by having sold Apple computers, and through a friend of mine who constantly renders high-end graphics for work. He never uses more than 3.something at once.

You pillock!!!!! @ Confuzzzed

Can someone explain to me what the advantage is of the 2.5GB quad core i7 processor which is available as a £200 extra compared to the 2.4GB quad core i7 processor that comes as standard on the top end 15' model?
other than the 6GB L3 vs. 8GB L3 that is!

:mad::mad::mad::eek::eek::mad::mad::mad:

The rating for processsors is in Ghz not GB and the rating for cache is in MB!
GET IT RIGHT!! :mad::mad:!!!!!!!!!

I think they updated the HDD from 320 kb to 500kb as well

:mad::mad::mad::eek::eek::mad::mad::mad:

SOMEONE ELSE AS WELL, GET IT RIGHT YOU LOT!!!!! HARD DRIVES IN GB, PROCESSORS IN GHZ, CACHE IN MB, MEMORY IN GB!!!! :mad::mad:!!!

hmmm not unexpected but still I thought they'd skip this and surprise us all early next year with MacBook Pro line with design like MacBook Air.

I guess I'll have to wait. All I want (or why I would upgrade from my ageing 2009 MacBook Pro 13") is if they release 13" with design like Air but with quad core. That's all I want in future MBP - Air design (with Air's 13" screen), Quad core and ThunderBolt.

I feel bad, even quite worried, for the people that throw a fit over a spec bump dropping the values of their notebooks. I could only imagine what you guys are gonna do when your home values keep dropping...

Suicide much? :/

That's like saying you want a MBA. But faster? The latest model is really competing with MBP already!

Yes, I know how it sounds, sorry about that. :) But what I mean is that people always seem to set a standard for 'how many GB's they should have', while that hardly relates to what they actually do with a computer. First find a legitimate reason to complain - don't start by always wanting more.

That's not true. Computers need as much RAM as is appropriate for what you do with them.

There may not be any software using 8GB at once, but a lot of people use more than one application at a time, and for people doing certain types of work (for example, music production) 8GB of RAM can be a bare-minimum requirement. Plug-ins and AU/VSTs will eat it in seconds.

Not a fit really... just calm and rational consideration of the market.

OK, that may be true (also see my other reply), but the argument is still valid that for 95% of users, multiple programs or not, anything more than 4GB of RAM is just silly. There's always the option should you need it.

95% of statistics are made up on the spot.
