Whats the point of the 13" pro if it doesn't even have a dedicated graphics card? Might as well get the 13" MBA that has the same integrated graphics.

$929 for the previous entry 13" model is definitely the big news in this update. Can't see how an extra hundred megahertz and slightly larger hard drive are worth nearly $200 more.

People will be bitching....

No form factor change and no Ivy Bridge. Is there any point of MacRumors.com? Apple has turned into a boring, uninspired conservative.

It's absolutely bonkers that Apple's build-to-order laptops now have 500GB of storage. That is a HUGE hard drive - half the size of my external HD and I thought that was enormous even as a dedicated storage device.

not a bad update but not much better than the one i had configured in june. the gfx isn't much better. in reviews, it got maybe 10 fps mor ein the BEST cases, usually, it only scores about 2 fps higher. the processor bumps are always nice but i wanted some SSD standard.

I don't think AppleCare should be free, but I agree on a computer that expensive the 1 year warranty should include 1 year telephone support.

The reason being? If you don't live close to an Apple Store and you're past 90 days, Apple support line will REFUSE to setup any repair for you because they can't "talk," to you until you pay them, effectively making your warranty useless unless you pay to talk, buy Apple Care, or drive hours to an Apple Store.

I have never had an issue with Apple setting up a repair over the phone after the 90-days, but before the 1-year warranty. I normally do not buy AppleCare until close to the 1-year date, as I have been burned before when they replaced my machine with a new one rather than repair it, and I needed to buy AppleCare again.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

One step closer to the big update. Can't wait!

Hah, totally called the bump to a 6770!

I'm really pleased that they switched up to a 512 MB 6750 on me low-end.. the 256 MB 6470 was just too anemic... it's a FAR more attractive computer now for the price. especially with a 10% speed bump and, I believe, a Turbo that's 20% higher.

Pretty lame boost to the GPU. There are games that are coming out that have a higher recommended GPU than the one in the higher end MBP. (I.E Battlefield 3 recommended GPU - 6950)

I know you can still run any game via min. requirement, but pretty lame considering you'll be spending 2k on a "high-end" laptop and still not be able to run all current games at gamer settings.

I have over 5TB in externals just on my desk, my 500GB in my MBP is constantly getting full and has to be offloaded.
Different strokes for different folks.

I'm surprised that the Macbook Pros are not marked as "NEW" like the iPods.

It's nice to see the market forcing Apple to upgrade it's professional laptop line as supplies of 300GB drives begin to dry up.

The upgrade for the high-end 15" is only 0.1GHz and a slightly faster GPU. In my opinion, the high-end 15" and 17" models are the least impacted from the new refresh.

I would be a lot more bothered if I purchased a base 13" since they also increased the HDD capacity. And I would be the most bothered if I had purchased the base 15" model since the 256MB 6490M was severely lacking compared to the 6750M.

Especially since that 256mb 6490M costed 1799 and its clear that apple is using bottom barrel binned parts from amd that have non functioning memory hence why only 256mb is enabled (they really have 512mb on board). Even the new 512mb part is clearly binned.

I thought they'd have Bluetooth 4.0 in there this time around but I guess we'll have to wait for that. I went ahead and ordered one because it could be next Summer when the redesign happens if there are any hiccups along the way.

I agree. However, you do lose the retail packaging that can help resale value later on.

I hope this is a change then. This had happened to me twice in the past. Had to contact executive relations to get someone to help me.

As I have been waiting to get a new low end 15" this update is great for me. I was really crossing my fingers for a standard resolution bump but guess I'll have to shell out the extra $150. Did that price go up? I could have sworn it was $100 last week.

While the hype for Ivy Bridge is high I know I'll need a new computer within the next 2 months and I'm afraid the new design will be too air-like for me. I like either having the optical drive or switching it out for an extra HDD.

True. WWDC might not be a horrible time to update the form factor.

The MacBooks are slightly interesting now in that they are all "Pros." Apple has left behind the consumer & professional lines it appears, unless you can say the Airs are the consumer line, with higher resolute screens being an anomaly.

Apple has perfected the art of finger pointing.

Always blaming others at all costs.

Nothing is ever Apples fault. Nothing.

Not finger pointing. Nvidia and Intel were in a nasty lawsuit involving the iX series of processors/motherboards. From this article:
Nvidia is locked in a legal battle with Intel, preventing Nvidia from making chipsets for Intel's "Nehalem" Core i series of chips--the lastest and greatest line of processors from Intel. Nvidia's Ion chipset--used in Apple MacBooks and Hewlett-Packard Netbooks, for example--has been very successful.

Intel was blocking Nvidia from developing cards for this configuration. I still haven't seen an explanation why they aren't using AMD cards for the 13", though. Maybe space concerns or something.

Whats the point of the 13" pro if it doesn't even have a dedicated graphics card? Might as well get the 13" MBA that has the same integrated graphics.

The 13" MBP is in an odd position. The resolution isn't as good as the MBA, and it doesn't offer the graphics power of the larger versions. I don't see why people would go for the MBP unless they need the storage space or superdrive.

$929 for the previous entry 13" model is definitely the big news in this update. Can't see how an extra hundred megahertz and slightly larger hard drive are worth nearly $200 more.

Of course, this would be a good reason to get the 13" MBP. Cheaper is always good.

They never mark anything as new if it's just a minor spec bump.

Why is Apple holding so resolutely to those terribly slow 5400rpm hard drives? 7200rpm hard drives go for dirt cheap now...

Because they're still cheaper. They have to keep everything under that $xx99 price mark; adding a more expensive drive as standard would mean they'd have to roll the price up another $100, regardless of what the upgrade cost, or have to deal with even thinner profit margins.. they make very little on the computers they sell as it is. Plus then they can charge more for them as upgrades ;)

I dunno though, remember when 4200 RPM was standard, and 5400 RPM was the upgrade? At 750 GB/5400 RPM, they're not so terribly poky anymore :)
