can someone please help me with the differences between i5 (the feb 2011 13 inch Macbook) with this one.... i already upgraded the ram and hd.... so I'm wondering if i am missing out on speed

Honestly, no, not at all. A Early 2011 13-inch owner in particular, should NOT feel bad about this update. This was a bit of a nice one as you don't have to feel like "wish I had that update." There was virtually no change in your model, .1 doesn't mean anything.

The upgrades you did are MUCH bigger upgrades than .1 on the processor. Therefore, you will continue to have a better Mac than those who buy that i5 model today. No worries!

ahh so whenever you buy a MBP or something you should pretty much wait till the "minor updates" [if they are rumored].. i wish i bought this one instead of my 2010 C2D with 250 GB storage :p but i doubt it would have happened, probably would have just bought the 2011 MBP when it first came \out haha

But then you wouldn't have had your 2010 C2D for all this time, maybe 18 months. And in 18 months time when you do buy a new MBP, you will be glad you didn't buy this one. It's very simple maths; if you buy a new MBP every three years then your MBP is on average 18 months old. If you buy every four years then it is on average 24 months old. And it doesn't matter at all when you buy.

And the 250 GB is very, very easy to change in an MBP, as long as you can handle a screwdriver without injuring yourself, or know someone who can :)

Do they get less hot than their previous iterations? My 13" MBP (base model) gets HOT if there's a little more going on.

That's all I care about with future notebooks: I want less heat, less fan noise. I want those even if it means using "slower" processors. I don't want some CPU with impressive specs that ruins the whole user experience--heat, noise--if it's being run at even 25% of capacity.

What? You buy a 2k machine and can not pay 50 US$ on the free market for 8 GB guaranteed Apple compatible RAM?
Most all machines at 2k give you 8GB or more of RAM standard. Make excuses and keep the bar low. As I said the CEO should bleed you guys dry way more. Links aren't necessary look at all laptops around those prices. Even the thin ones.

We are lucky, if we see SSDs as standard in 9 years (2020). Like one bright MR forum member wrote: [Today] You can buy a car for the price of a 1 TB SSD.
I see a lot of 2k laptops with a little bit of SSD storage for faster launching of apps. If not that they have actual killer GPU's. Battery may be a little shorter of course.

And the devices which support this are...?
Apples page says bluetooth 2.1 A lot of high end laptops are at 3.0.

The current displays, also on the Early-2011 models are much better than the displays on the 2009er models. I've used both generations. Besides that, the Intel HD 3000 does not support retina displays, so all MBP users must use the discrete GPU, if they want to use a retina display, which is a waste of battery time & energy.
Dell's RGB and HP's dreamcolor absolutely look better than any MBP display. Not even a contest. Dell can be had for a fair amount cheaper. HP is about the same price.

Wait for IB, it will solve some of your "very important problems".

How would ivy bridge solve RAM and display being behind the curve? Really???? LOL :eek::mad::):(:p;):D

use all of them makes it more colorful.

Do they get less hot than their previous iterations? My 13" MBP (base model) gets HOT if there's a little more going on. TurboBoost, I guess. I wish there was a way to disable it.

With the clock going UP, I don't see how the temperature is going DOWN...

I'd suggest taking yours in to Apple and getting them to have a look, or opening it yourself and re-doing the thermalpaste, if you feel confident enough to do so. I've worked on quite a few current gen 13" MBPs, and they run relatively cool assuming you haven't got one with crazy amounts of thermal paste :)

Finally 500 gig standard in all Pro's…

I have always been wondering why they don't use larger GB drives and the faster speeds that are out there?

Upgraded a MBP 17 " with a $ 74 Hitachi drive 7,200 and never a problem since 2 years.

At that time even 320 was an exception for them and still 5400.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

I feel bad, even quite worried, for the people that throw a fit over a spec bump dropping the values of their notebooks. I could only imagine what you guys are gonna do when your home values keep dropping...

Suicide much? :/

Damn! This update makes my G4 iBook even more obsolete.

Where's my noose?

I'm glad they aren't advertising them as "NEW" in the store.... if they were marketing these as a full-fledged refresh, they would catch all kinds of hate when they release the full refresh as soon as ivy bridge is ready....

Bad timing - got Macbook Pro on Saturday

My wife's previous Macbook Pro died, so she ordered one from Amazon which arrived on Saturday. Very bad timing I guess (but she needed it for a business trip). Any chance of her getting a rebate or anything for getting the model that was just on its way out...?

I don't think AppleCare should be free, but I agree on a computer that expensive the 1 year warranty should include 1 year telephone support.

The reason being? If you don't live close to an Apple Store and you're past 90 days, Apple support line will REFUSE to setup any repair for you because they can't "talk," to you until you pay them, effectively making your warranty useless unless you pay to talk, buy Apple Care, or drive hours to an Apple Store.

Gonna have to strongly disagree with you on the Applecare. Any company that is charging $2000-2500 for laptops these days shouldn't be charging $300 for an extended warranty.

I'm still absolutely thrilled with my 2011 13" MacBook Pro purchase from earlier this year in spite of the (very minor) bump in processor speed for this latest revision... to be honest, how long I end up hanging on to this thing depends on what happens once Ivy Bridge and a redesign come to the MBP line next year- which, thankfully, I've got all kinds of time to wait for :).

my 15" eearly 2011 just broke..
hoping genius replaces it with a new model....
ie swap

Glad to see the low-end 15" have at least 512MB of VRam but Apple needs to get dedicated cards into the 13in models. I'd love a 13in for traveling but for work having the option for a beefy card would make all the difference.

Hmm i just bought a MBA 13" 128 gb. Should i return it and get one of the new MBP 13"?

Honestly, how much hassle would it cause you for what? Id say if it would take you more than ten minutes then no. Don't waste your time.

How long until I can get one at CDW?

Hey all...

Historically, how long until the "standard" configurations start to show up at resellers? My company only buys from CDW, so I have to wait until they have them.

Thanks.
