Apple Park. I like it. I'm guessing iPhone 8 announcement will be the first event they hold there.
The problem is that the last two iPhone events where in front of a 2000+ audience and the new theatre only holds about 1000. Remember the plans for this campus were presented in 2011 (by Jobs), six years later the iPhone has become big enough that the 1000 seats don't suffice anymore.

No wonder prices on Apple products keep going up: Apple needs to pay for the Spaceship somehow.

2012 MacBook Pro 15" Retina (256 GB) at launch: $2199

2016 MacBook Pro 15" Retina (256 GB) at launch: $2399

This is despite the fact that the cost of technology has gone significantly.

For example, SSD now costs less then 1/6 of what it did in 2012.

That price is about right if you factor in inflation, and that doesn't take into account R&D.

I would love to know the true cost of R&D for certain products, considering how often people use it as justification for inclusion within price rise debates.

Gorgeous. That is the first time I've seen it at night with the lights on (you will have to watch Apple's official video on their website).

Love the design of this building, the March event won't be held there then, so i'm guessing the first event will be the iPhone 8 in September which makes sense it will be a special 10th anniversary, what better way than to hold the first ever Apple campus 2 event than at a special occasion.

Apple Park makes a lot of sense. A park - well, what do you do in a park? You stroll at a slow pace. Slow pace. That's the pace of innovation we're seeing from Apple. Full circle, pun intended.

"... the campus will run entirely on renewable energy."

I thought they will have a (natural gas) power station on site and - to cite SJ - use the grid as a backup.
At least that was the case when SJ presented the campus a few years ago.
Even with solar panels on the roof, a natural gas power plant is not what I consider "renewable energy".

The generational leaps in A series processors outpacing the rest of the industry determined that was a lie.

Apple Park..... I like it.

But just the theatre being named after Steve? I mean I wouldn't know how to name the main building but surely there should be more to commemorate one of the founders
I disagree -- the theatre is the perfect building to name after him. That is where people knew him from; his presence came alive there.

Right. And because it's Apple, they will now have to demolish the entire building and get a brand spanking 2016 version because the interior is not upgradeable. The new one will also only have one door. It will be 23 feet smaller in diameter and will be so thin that the California sun will be all you need to keep it warm. Amazing. Incredible.

Except there is no inflation in electronics. The components in the 2012 rMBP, esp. screen, which was all-new then, and SSD, cost more then than in 2016. Moreover the 2016 rMBP is less complex -- just 4 USB-C/TB3 ports, no mag safe adapter needs, no extension cable included.

Best case if you add in shipping and wage inflation the rMBP should be the same price not $200 more. I don't know what Apple spent on R&D on this model but it likely was not enormous. This model is not a grounds up rebuilt. It's a tweak, and mostly cosmetic. It borrowed the USB-C support from the MB. Reality is you can buy it closer to $2199 if you shop around and don't buy direct from Apple. But it's clear Apple is padding the price here. It's much more than just inflation factored in.

<Yes, I own a 2016 15" TB. I did have sticker shock to the point I did wait it out until the early adopters were out of the market and prices could settle down to a more acceptable price. This is not a $2400 machine. $2100-2200, OK.>

Apple ships real products, not vaporware. That's why their pace may seem slow sometimes.

Indeed, releasing "fast paced" mega-flops like the Oculus Rift would be very, very bad for them.

I would imagine they must have altered the plan. That is actually one thing - aside from the aesthetics - that impresses me the most. It's a massive building with zero emissions. That's amazing.

4 years and counting of same iphone design should be factored in too.

More amazing are Datacenters with PEU 1.3 with zero footprint, but Apl finds those too hard and will evidently "skip the cloud", easier to design new doorknobs for Campus 2...Two new ones in S.Korea launched just this week.

I wonder which is worse?..Microsoft missing on Smartphones or Apl missing the cloud? We'll soon find out won't we?

Apple park looks just like Cortana, 'good for later" thanks Apl.
'Be the home of innovation for generations to come'..LOL really Apl?

Well, Cortana looks like a wheel from a Model T, so i'm not sure what your point is. Circles are circles.
