Derp. A complete unqualified comment. You haven’t any idea what happened behind the scene and what it will take to clean up.
Squerp. Who cares? You think this is ominous? From a consumer perspective, this is at worst inconvenient itemization. Tell us why you think this is neither harmless (except for a short, irritating while to Waters, Hardy & Co) nor funny.

You really shouldn’t be so hard on customer service folks at credit card companies; they may be thick, but I’m sure most of them try their best.

I read it the other way around, as them being hard on humanity at large, not customer service folks. Which is totally fair, I think. The general population can be rather disappointing sometimes.

Although I have (probably all of us) occasionally gotten that customer service rep who is totally beat down and now hates customers automatically... I understand and sympathize with why some people might get that way, having to deal with upset people all day, but it doesn't make it ok or fun to have to deal with.

I’ve had this charge this morning. Frankly, you need to be a little thick in order not to do 2+2 .... it’s the same exact amount as your AT&T bill... on the same day as your AT&T bill... your AT&T bill has not been charged separately.... Apple Card frequently mislabels charges.... what genius could solve the mystery? But, no of course, some people immediately call the police/the internets/macrumors for help!!
Not sure how things work on your end but whilst my monthly rental is x amount every month my bill isn't always. Pretty silly to just assume without checking.

I disagree. First thing I do if I see an unknown charge on my card is google the merchant displayed. Sometimes stores are called “Bob‘s tyres“ but come up as “Joe Smith’s hardware”. If that brings up nothing I’ll try to call the place that has charged my card. It is a perfectly rational thing to do.

As someone who works in IT, in change management I don’t understand how this isn’t tested before deployment. Especially in a billing system. What else have they cut corners on?

Since Goldman Sachs administers the Apple Card, it may be premature to presume that it is Apple behind this merchant mix-up.
Apple chose to partner with Goldman who not only have a disgusting history but no experience in this area of business so yeah, Apple is behind the mix-up.

I haven't used it personally, but mislabeling charges is a very bad thing for a credit card. I'm curious why people continue to use it if this is actually the case.

Regarding the other firm though, even if it's a small percentage of those customers calling, it could still be a large adjustment to the normal call traffic of that firm.
Curious why u use your credit card of choice,
You should stop being curious

GS probably borrowed code from Mint.com who categorizes purchases from Steam (the online videogame storefront) as "Restaurants." I'm not joking.

This was an old ad:
Easy-to-Understand Spending
Apple Card uses machine learning and Apple Maps to clearly label transactions with merchant names and locations. Purchases are automatically totaled and organized by color-coded categories such as Food and Drinks, Shopping and Entertainment. To help customers better understand their spending, Apple Card provides weekly and monthly spending summaries.

It looks to me the algorithm (used on device apple map data) is an apple product..?

Every time I use my AppleCrd/ApplePay at our local grocery store, the transaction always shows as a purchase from the grocery store gas station instead of groceries... Apple must think I use a lot of gas

How can I get that fixed?

seems like they have a bunch of mislabeling issues. I just signed up with Visible cell service, which is owned by Verizon Wireless and uses Verizon cell towers, and put my bill on auto pay with my Apple Card...and first payment shows up to "Sprint".

Maybe they should have stuck to an industry they were good at. While an Apple Card holder, I cringe at the idea of them using finance products to build their stock value to be able to keep showing increased revenue.

I mean...even though Apple helped develop the concept (which has been lauded) and has their brand all over it, this is all managed by a bank on the back end. I'll give you that it's a bank new to the consumer credit card game, but in the end, how is Apple Card any different than a Target Red card or Amazon card? Should they also have stuck to what they're good at?

Yeah no, you’re right. This sort of thing is a sign of great reliability, like all Apple services.
So. Setting aside your “all Apple services are unreliable” bait, Apple Card has been out for a year and a half. How does this itemization mixup warn us all that Apple Card is unreliable? Have charges failed to process? The 3% interest not being applied? Security breaches? People not getting their statements? Specifically how?

Another company is having to deal with calls from frustrated customers of Apple Card.. but I am sure members here will loyally defend Apple for this as well.

Hopefully the small company will see some new business from the unintended attention and inconvenience. That would be kind of nice.

It's amazing how worked up some people are about a technical error. "People will defend Apple for this!" lol Talk about first world problems.

Use a credit card from a bank/financial organisation with experience and track record...
