This is the way. The Amazon card gives 5% back on all things Amazon and Whole Foods. Amex has a card that does 6% back on groceries and 3% back on gas (cost $95/year, but it's easy to come out way ahead). Apple Card gives 12 mos 0% interest and 3% back on Apple purchases. Run everything else through something like the Cap One Venture X (if you like to travel), and it's simple maxing CC rewards w/o much thought.
The Amazon Card reviews (on Amazon no less) all say how much of a crappy card it is. So I never really considered it. I do the subscribe and save and have each month maxed with at least 5 items so I’m getting 5-15% on that stuff (which I’d be buying anyway) so not really sold that the 5% vs the 3% I get on my current card would add up enough to warrant having to track and manage another card.

Cool story but they haven’t reported to the credit bureaus since Feb. on my account and I’ve paid the card off since last report. All three bureaus showing my balance at $7000 but it was paid off in May… I’ve had to file a dispute with the bureaus and Goldman, that was in June still no resolution…

Fifth third ranks third. Which is better than being fifth. :)

It’s a credit card. Never since I had one had a problem with one regardless of the banks I use. Mind you, I live in EU … don’t know how banking operates in US than again not long ago we had that loan crash …

The average household credit card dept in the US is absolutely insane. 14.5K. 50% of the households have one. 17% down the drain in interests now add inflation … Cash back much? Forget return on investiments to compensate for it …

The gov can’t print cash fast enough … I feel this thing is gonna pop. Hope not.

Ours at the moment is 0. It’s may rise to a couple of hundreds or so but not for long.

For whatever reason (probably because Apple bribes JD Power to give them an award), JD Power goes ahead and gives a score to both NFCU and USAA, but then adds a footnote saying that “Brand is not rank eligible because it doesn’t meet study award criteria.” What criteria is that? It’s never specified anywhere. Presumably it’s pay-to-win. NFCU and USAA don’t pay, so Apple wins as the best scored company that does pay (the bribe) for the “award”.

I believe when a company doesn’t meet J.D. Power "study award criteria" it is because there weren't enough survey respondents for that company and/or the company in question restricted J.D. Power's access to customer contact information to allow them to conduct surveys.

IDK, 74% 5 start reviews. Many people complaining about rates, which I don't care about b/c I've never carried a CC balance. I guess someone has to pay for the 5% cash back I'm getting.

Since I don't use it for anything but Amazon there isn't really much to manage. The bill gets auto-paid each month and I get an additional 5% on all the Amazon things.

I'm far from a CC min/maxer, so any min/maxing I've done has to be mostly automatic which this has. It and the Apple Card sit here on my desk never having been swiped or even left my house haha.

I closed my joint Apple Card last week, had since release. Too many bugs in Wallet app, Showed four transactions to Lego in November for $1300 as pending and when I contacted them (as I was expecting a refund for one transaction that was real) it wasn't present on their end. They told me it fell off back then and I wasn't charged for it.

Whether they're right or not it's terrible to have such a situation on a financial product. For a company that prides itself on quality software it blew my mind. Also, searching "pending" then tapping "see all" crashes the app. If you switch apps while having the search open it cycles the list, I took a screen recording of it if anyone's interested. Either way, fintech has fin(ance) first in the portmanteau for a reason, can't have an unreliable credit card. Even the clunky big banks don't have these issues in my experience.

Wait… isn’t JD Power a sham? You pay to play with these “awards”, no?

I wouldn't necessarily call it a sham but in order for companies to use the J.D. Power name, logos, rankings, etc. in their marketing, they have to pay J.D. Power a licensing fee. J.D. Power also charges companies for access to more detailed survey results and market research data.

Fixed it for you

Rawr! Simmer down, there, kitty. The article said it was rated tops, so I was making a joke that it’s the favorite, get it? Daddy Tim will still love you if you see the humor. If not, then I’m glad you felt the need to “fix” my words in loyalty to your favorite mega corporation.

IDGAF about what Tim says bro. I was more making the point that borrowing money you can't pay back is a bad thing and everyone preys on you to convince yourself otherwise.

I understand what you were saying bro , but perhaps I missed the memo where you were the teacher and I the student, where scratching lines through my words and rudely “correcting” me is not considered a diss.

Apple Card: consumers’ favorite way to convince themselves they can afford what they cannot!
If you pay off your balance at the end of every month (as you should) then it’s essentially a debit card since you don’t have to pay any interest.

I have my Apple card set so that it will pay my balance off automatically every month so that I will avoid any insurance. People just have to manage their spending.

Apple Card also has many security benefits, and I love the UI and ease of use with Apple Pay. If I need to purchase anything online from multiple devices, it’s all set up. And I can also easily pay at terminals or at most place with just my Apple Watch. I love using my Apple Watch to quickly pay while entering a subway station or purchasing something at the store and keeping my phone secured in my pocket.

I got the Amazon Prime Signature Visa during COVID when I was ordering everything through Amazon. It has been great for me. I still do 90% of my shopping on Amazon and most of my grocery shopping at Whole Foods so the 5% is great. Plus, 2% at restaurants and stuff. I also recently got a Costco card for gas and just got the Apple Card for 12 months interest-free and a discount on MBA. So, like others mentioned I have cards for different uses. I used to just have one, so a little more of hassle to track with multiple.

But gas savings are worth it for Costco (cheap gas plus 4%) though can't redeem until year-end. Boo. Amazon card I can use cash back right away on Amazon orders and Apple cash back is instant, so I might start using more as a daily.

See, I’m old school and don’t use autopay for anything. I pay my balance off right before the closing date so it always reports to the credit bureau as a $0 balance (good hack to improve your credit score). I also look at all my accounts at least once a day for suspicious activity.

They don’t. Have to call every time. Such a pain. I don’t trust VZW either. I’ll stick with Apple and I’ve used Swappa for a long time.
VZW has been great for paying the installments. They just stink getting the device and sending the trade back to them. Apple just inspects and you get the notification the trade is done, and you get your new device
