This x 100, thank you. I just got back from a vacation for which the flights and hotels priced out at over $200k, if I had paid for it all with money. Using points earned from credit cards paid for 90% of that cost.
To get $200K in cash back/rewards, at (optimistically) 5% rewards, one would have to spend $4M. This just does not add up. Some people get rewards from business trips (when using personal/business card with reimbursement) but it just does not work for regular folks. Yes there are some savings, but they are pretty modest.

Yeah I read that and was like uhhh? $200,000 of travel ain’t happening for most people so no point in using it against Apple Card

Lots of casual 7 figure earners coming out of the woodwork on here and Reddit in these types of threads.

Even at a 30% rewards return rate, that's still $650,000+ spent in the $200k rewards scenario mentioned above. I'm in no way saying that's not something that ever happens, it's just a little curious how often those types of numbers get thrown around on forums.

That’s not how it works. Rewards are different and more valuable than cash back. For example I can spend $30,000 over 3 months on travel and dining, which is not out of the norm for someone with significant business travel. On a CSR that gets you 3 points per dollar spent, which is 90,000 UR points. You can do a 1:1 transfer to United MileagePlus, and then book a one way ticket in J to Sydney. Those tickets close in will often cost $9-10k in D/C/J, award availability is hard to come by but not impossible to find. You get great value when redeeming that way, that’s a neat 30% back on your purchase.

Yep... with normal spend, I earn well in excess of 100K MR points per year with my AmEx Gold card (4x on at least $20K annually on groceries plus whatever we spend at restaurants). Those points transfer to Delta SkyMiles at a 1:1 ratio, and to Hilton Honors at a 1:2 ratio. Not long ago, AmEx offered a 40% bonus for transferring points to Aer Lingus AerClub and and British Airways Executive Club.
Edit: the 40% transfer bonus is still active.

Well, I received my physical card today, and the activation process is not working. I have followed the process (and even took off my Apple battery case just in case) and no matter how I hold it near the packaging it does not activate. Currently in a chat with Apple support about it now. Hopefully this issue won't be very widespread for them or this will be a support nightmare when it launches out to everyone.

I'm still waiting to be able to sign-up for the Apple Card ("+" and URL still not working).

In the meantime, I have a question for others that have been using the card. Categories/colors are automatically assigned based on the type of purchase. I assume Apple/Goldman/MC isn't always correct about the category for an item/purchase. Can they be edited on a per-transaction basis?

Not something important, IMO - just curious.

Someone said you have to hold the case up to the phone, not the card itself. You may already be doing this, but I just wanted to throw it out there.

Someone else said that you need to hold the iPhone near the *envelope* containing the card (not the card itself). Are you doing that? I don't know if this is true or not - just pointing out what someone else said.

EDIT: or see M-Life's response posted while I was typing mine :)

EDIT 2: I see you said "no matter how I hold it near the packaging", which implies you are doing what was suggested. I see in MR's "Hands on with Apple Card" video that they hold the phone near the card while it is inside the packaging. So... card must be in packaging, then hold phone near card?? No idea - as I haven't been able to sign-up myself yet

Yes, I was actually holding it to the packaging with the card in it. It never did work. Support showed me that you can also activate it by selecting "I don't have the packaging" and that I would be prompted to take a picture of the card. I tried that option, and oddly, it immediately activated the card without ever prompting me to take a picture. So I'm good now.

Support is going to be in for a treat if this happens a lot once the card rolls out fully.

Interesting. I'll keep that in mind if I ever get my physical card. I seem to be stuck in the limbo of getting approved through the link, but never getting an actual invite, and my card has not shipped. I think these things are related.

Pay off the balance at end of month. You won’t pay interest.

Received my email yesterday. I was approved for $4500 at 23.99%. No chance I'll be using it at that interest rate.

Other banks passed on this because there's no profit? BS! At 23.99%, which MANY people even with good to great credit are getting, there's no way there's not profit to be made here.

What else was to be expected from Goldman Saks?

Add: the privacy aspect is nice. Everything else is poor. No points, no travel insurance, purchase protection etc...

Finally got the email but, still no access in Wallet.

You may want to check the email address because I had a similar problem today. I received an invite, but it was to an iCloud alias email, not my Apple ID email address. I guess in my rush to get notified, I missed the part about entering my Apple ID email address where it clearly says "Enter your Apple ID email address..."

I called support. I still can't apply until I receive the invite to my Apple ID email address. Ugh.

Apple ID email address. I just had to write it again.

Oh the cruel irony. I signed up on my Apple ID, iCloud email @iCloud.com, @Mac.com, @me.com, and an iCloud alias thinking Apple would be smart enough to know the alias is linked to my iCloud id.

Of all the emails to pick, they choose the iCloud alias which means the invite doesnt count...

What model is your phone?

I just received an email from Apple with the subject "Your invite to Apple Card is waiting".

It says that the email address that I provided does not match an Apple ID signed into iCloud. When I signed up for notification I might have typed in another one of my email addresses.

Funny thing is that I had used the link that was floating around on here and was approved last Thursday morning and received the physical card Monday.

I just now received the invite waiting email as well but it's saying I didn't enter an email address linked to an iCloud account that's currently signed in. The email it came to is for sure my Apple ID account address and it's for sure logged in to on my phone. Weird. I just tried signing out and signing back in on my phone as well as providing them the email again at the site (which I've already done several times anyway); we will see what happens. Should I provide my iCloud email address instead of my gmail address (which I actually use to sign in to my Apple ID)?

I just received the same email. Exact same situation.

I just got the invite email at 5:23pm Central time. The link worked for me Sunday evening. It looks like more invites are going out now for those still waiting.

Now if I can get the darn card shipped to me.

Edit: Just read the full email, it also says my email did not match an Apple address signed into iCloud. But my Icloud email and the email I signed up with match exactly, so I'm not sure what's going on.
