The Apple Store in Durham had two racks full of the apple case today. I'm not sure if they had just gotten a shipment in, but I had no trouble finding one.

Was just about to post this. Jury is still out on the case however. I just don't think I am a case person. I have 3 iPhone cases and whenever I out them on they come off within minutes.

i used to be the same way however my iphone 3gs back looks like its been thru hell and back so i decided I was going to buy a case with the ipad so it would go right in and not kill my resale value when I want to upgrade to v2. it worked out that the apple case I think looks the best out of all the ones ive seen too.

Are you kidding me! The one day I didn't bother checking!
Ah well, having one sent to me and should have it Saturday.

I had one on order from Apple online and one from Best Buy but had no ship date. I called the Valley Fair Apple store and was told they had them. 'Went over at lunch and they probably had about 50 of them so I got one and cancelled my online orders.:)

Same basic thought (both iPhone 1st gen and iPhone 3GS are well abused) - except I simply enjoy holding the device as is and hate covering up such a great piece of modern art. But I still want a stand of some sort and some protection for carrying it out of the house, throwing in my luggage, etc.

My solution? Best Skin Ever for the back. There's no way this the back will scratch, and only the trained eye will notice it's there. For the sometimes extra protection/stand, I have a MacAlly Bookstand on the way, similar in functionality to the Apple case (2 position landscape stand) but just takes a few seconds to insert/remove iPad. Perfect.

I have the Apple Case unopened in my car. I ordered it when I posted the 3G pre-order on day one back in March.

I'm not sure if I'll try it and eat the $4.00 restocking fee, or take it back this week. My receipt says I need to return it before the 23rd to avoid the restocking fee.

I would love an M Edge Executive Jacket, but I'm not sure it offers the stand feature that I think I may want.

My question is how often to do you use the stand function. I currently don't type on an angled keyboard today. Is it that much better? Is it more for viewing angle versus typing?

I feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place since my iPad won't be here until NEXT Friday. :( I would have preferred them ship together. That case does me no good until I get the thing.

My receipt says that there is no restocking fee on the case. Weird.

Edit: oh, but you ordered it. Got it.

Anyone else finding that it seems their iPad slides to the left of the case during the day? I know it sounds weird but I'm sure that the volume buttons weren't that difficult to press earlier today.

I noticed that too. You can also tell by looking at how the dock port or lock button aligns with their cutouts in the case. They should be centered if the iPad is pushed all the way into the case. I think that each time you use the case as a stand or push the volume buttons, the iPad slides out a tiny, tiny bit, and the cutouts become uncentered.

FWIW, the Apple Store on Broadway in NYC was stocking tons of Apple cases today. I picked one up just to have a case for starters when my 3G arrives next Friday.

I saw one person buy 10-15 of them in one swoop. Thought that was interesting...but then they came out and stocked it with about 20 more. I assume the other NYC stores have similar stock.

Mine were never centered. This really annoys me about the case and may be the reason why I give up on it.

Edit: Just took mine out of the case and I remember why I love this thing with no case on. Now I have a tough decision.

Guess I'm in the minority but I have a Macally bookstand and just picked up the apple case and think it's far better. The apple case made out of the Macally material would be perfect, but the apple case is thin and holds the unit well. The macally is ok but it doesn't clip in right and the case just dosen't fit right.

BTW the Oakbrook, IL store has at least 20-25 of them in stock.

Good to know all the stores in the Chicago area likely have stock now. I got mine from Deer Park.

The case is nice but it just has some issues that, although minor, really bug me. Like how it slides left in the case during the day when I leave it at home. It doesn't move all day so there's no reason for this to occur.

For the folks with the official Apple case, at the two week mark:

- are you still happy with the Apple case?
- would you buy it again, or could you live without it?

I haven't opened mine because the iPad 3G itself hasn't arrived. But I plan to return it since my Orbino should be shipping soon.

I put it back in the case. It's been 20 minutes and it already slid to the left. It's driving me nuts. I didn't even touch it.

I don't want a case that makes my iPad move in it when it isn't being used.

I'm likely returning this case or selling it to someone. Seems that most places have stock of this case now so a return is likely. Maybe I'll look at the Marware case and see if I like it. Maybe the Apple store has other folio cases I can look at and decide if I like them.

I usually just re-tucked mine everyday, but I ended up returning it 13 days after purchasing it. I couldn’t put up with its flaws, but now I feel like it may be the best among the worst. The problem with all the other existing cases is that they were designed by people who never had access to an iPad. For now, I use my iPad without a case and wrap it in a microfiber cloth when I travel.

I bought an Incase sleeve the day after I bought the iPad. I'm going to stick with it until I see a case that looks good and actually fits well. The Apple case shows what it should look like but it's far from the best. There's no way I'm going back to using it now. It'll likely be returned tomorrow.
