Only the Western people care about this nonsense thinking. Here in East Asian countires with the low percentage of Christians, we are free and willing to say Christmas every year.
Western people really have no problem with saying Christmas either. All the other words for these holidays were invented purely to wind up those people who get wound up about these things.

Meh, my last employer held big summer parties at its huge HQ in London every year with famous artists too, and all sorts of other things. So not sure what the point of this story is as it’s nothing exclusive to Apple? Should have been a side story at best. Photos of the Christmas decorations in Apples offices would have been better I think?

Well I’ve never heard someone say you can’t say the word Christmas.

I have, here in the UK employees have been disciplined for wearing crosses on necklaces, some religions have tried to ban the Hot Cross bun, basically the minorities don’t always like the majority faith and try to get parts of it banned..
Some employees don’t like you telling customers on the phone Happy Christmas because you don’t know what religion they are.
It goes on..

Once you get beyond the Daily Mail hysteria, in most cases it's members of the majority who actually make these patronising decisions for fear of offending a minority based on no significant evidence, yet the minority then suffers the backlash. As a Muslim guy I used to work with once told me: "I have no problem with Christmas, Easter, whatever. What does annoy me is when people decide on my behalf what offends me. It's as if they feel I'm incapable of having my own opinion or ability to voice it".

Might want to look up the history of that.
Has nothing to do with Christ.
Christianity took it and renamed it to Christmas.

Right? Lol, these people... *smh*
A lot of pine trees in Bethlehem, were there?? ;0)

Spring, Summer, Autumn (Fall, whatever), Winter. Those are the seasons. I don’t see Holiday in there, because it’s not a season.

Quit being weird.

Want to go on a tirade against outdoorsmen... telling them there’s no hunting season?
How about against accountants... telling them there’s no tax season?

You’re pedantry here comes across more as petty desire to be irritated, for whatever reason... even during this lovely season. =)

Lol so many angry people in the MacRumors forums.

Anyway, does someone have the video of this performance? I can't find it anywhere on youtube. I'm sure someone must have got it on video right?

I just don’t get why they’re not ok with saying and wishing Merry Christmas but then are ok with mentioning Hanukkah, Eid Mubarak, Diwali, Chinese New Year, etc... This Nonsense must stop.

+1000

Apple wants to keep the gift purchasing tradition of Christmas religion agnostic, because it suits their business calendar. All this celebration of a "spirit" is just hypocrisy.

Wouldn’t want to say the word “Christmas”

What holidays is Cook referring to?

CHRISTmas. It's called Christmas.

It's Christmas Timmy. You can't even say it can you? It's not Kawanza (that's a complete farce), it's not Hanukkah. It's CHRISTMAS. It's the reason FOR the season.

Well, it’s Hanukkah NOW (I’m particularly looking at you, Naraxussy: it is Hanukkah). It’s not Christmas for another two and a half weeks. You want people to ignore Hanukkah on Hanukkah and wish everyone Merry Christmas? In poker that’s called a tell.

I made this a couple years ago and didn't think it'd find relevance on this forum.

Was just about to post the same thing. Why is a holiday party a “rumour” or even newsworthy.

Great, they had a party...

Would appear I woke up on the salty side of my bed. Lol

Some places and cultures that’s true, now get over yourself, Apple is a global company.
The problem of saying "holidays" is it has no meaning, you talking about taking a summer holiday?, you talking about bank holidays? you talking about Easter holiday?

Now you can justify it by saying "well we all know what he means" but he should have the balls to say it...

I agree! =)

Makes sense, considering the fact that nearly EVERYONE celebrates the holidays, yet... even with its umpteen factions & myraid branches- still, less than 1/3 of the population is Christian.

note:
If you don’t add a /sarcasm tag... I’m totally going to pretend like I don’t realize you’re trying your hand at sarcasm.
What “holidays” are you referring to?

Also, many non-Christians celebrate Christmas, so the population of Christians is irrelevant.

But of course, you know that. You just wanted to appear clever.

No, but many, many people are afraid to say it, lest they offend and receive a lecture or are shamed.

Probably from people like you.

I am sure the employees were told to not record or face termination. It would be in violation of copyright. Nobody is going to want to lose their job by posting it.

It is Hanukkah, from Dec 2 through Dec 10th. It’s not Christmas until dec 25th. If anything, this was a Hanukkah party, but Apple is including the Hindus, bhuddists, and any other cults and cultures just to be nice.

Millions of people celebrate Christmas who are not Christian or religous. (Myself included.) That doesn't mean that you have to call it something that it's not. It's still Christmas and the Christmas Season.

If I was to start celebrating Diwali I wouldn't call it the October Season just because I'm not Hindu.

If Tim want's to talk about the holiday season as a retail period then fair enough, but that's not what he's doing here and even as an Atheist (agnostic anti-theist to be pedantic), I find the dancing arround the word Christmas just plain daft.

CHRISTmas. It's called Christmas.
Let it go, let it go :D, although I think that song wasn't written for Frozen, it was written for Jony, we have a headphone jack, let it go, let it go...:D
I was brought up in a country where it was called christmas, much like the US. I'm an atheist, but still call it christmas and still celebrate it. The world has gone PC mad.
I know a lot of people from different faiths that are in no way offended by calling it christmas.
What next, we can't celebrate the year of the dog? or Ramadan?
