Totally agree on being sick of the plus looking phones even though I love them. But isn’t switching a pain ?

Not even thinking of leaving the Apple eco system, actually looking forward to Face ID and a new design.

This is why multiple companies make multiple phones :)
It took me a day and a half to get used to it, the Note 8 is insanely packed full of options and features, but after a while, it starts to grows on you. So far, I'm really liking the face unlock, I just look at it and it unlocks, no need to use the fingerprint sensor. What's crazy is the phone is 6.3" but its barely bigger than my old iPhone 7 Plus. Also, the wireless charging and the quick charge features are real cool too. Android 7.0 is stable and very similar to iOS nowadays, so your not missing much by jumping ship.

Overall phones are pretty much becoming a commodity. Go with what works for you and what you can afford.

One line to cover the back and shallow depth of field that’s one way to conceal thatis not a lot of people lining up for iPhone anymore. Here’s a journalist tweet from Bribane yesterday.

Yeah, lets celebrate a 4 year old phone design. This is just sad. And the iPhone X isn't going to sell as well as the tech journalist think it is either. $1000 bucks for a phone with no touch-id and that ugly devil horns. 2017 isn't going to be a good year for Apple...
You will be surprised ;):) epic iPhone X launch day will open many eyes amazed.

I went to pick up an 8 black 64 gb and they were already sold out in my local store and in all surrounding stores (Maryland DC area) :( They are all expecting another shipment today. I do not think things are quite as bleak as people perceive. The X looks sharp, but just not worth the additional cost. Plus I have kids that really really like to abuse phones. If I have to replace a screen I think I would weep with an X.

Anyways wish me luck!

It's worth waiting a few weeks just to make sure there are no serious issues, plus the stores will be less crowded.

Oh yes. Definitely.
I find it really odd how buying something is seen as an achievement worthy of celebration.

Welcome to America!

I got to my local Apple "town square" and they had rope barriers up but I was literally the only person there at the time. Not a great opening for Apple, although sales were always going to plateau. I'm very happy with my 8 Plus though and I can certainly live without animajois and Face ID for £200 more.

Apple doesn’t do the S thing anymore though and I’m sure part of it is for marketing purposes. I mean if they still only changed the number when there was an all new external design like they used to right now the iPhone 8 would be the iPhone 6SSS. I’m thinking they skipped the number 9 because next year there will be one more vintage 6 phone. I mean they wouldn't want to call it an iPhone 6SSSS.

The stores will be pretty slow today compared to previous launches, but expect Apple to announce huge lines and the biggest iPhone launch ever!

The problem, it is a 6SSS. Calling it a 7 and 8..... that's just marketing and milking a product line in a Steve Balmer manner, in my opinion.

In my opinion they went with 8 , to keep the existing price point, and allowed them to bump up the price of the X.

Tim is doing a great job of fragmenting the iPhone line. Old school strategy of maximising your profits....resulting in long term innovation loss. Tim = apples Steve balmer .....but......with fashion Pricing ;) cheers Angela....

Ok so trying to Keep this simple. I have a Iphone 7 Plus with 256G of memory that is working great and as it part of the Apple lease program will be paid off in a year and I will own it. The new Iphone 8 is really not much different and the X is way too expensive and nothing really great with it that is useful. I did decide to get the new Apple LTE watch as my old Series 0 is in need of an upgrade. Call me crazy but just can get into the new phone hype this time around. Anyone else with me?

Actually that time has likely passed. Also, when sentiment is low, you start buying, not shorting and sentiment is pretty low already.
Sentiment in the press is still pretty high, they think this miraculous X iphone is going to be their savior, but I think its gonna flop a month after it sells once all the early buyers and resellers get their fill.

The current price setup is absolutely wild imo.

My current iPhone 7 I bought secondhand at a great price but is acting up a bit after being thrown about. I had looked to going for an iP8 but at £699 that is absolutely no sale. Even if I sold my iP7 on I'd still be looking at footing an extra £400 to buy wireless charging basically.
My iP6S Plus was £660 on launch day which was as much cash I wanted to pay for a phone. 2 years later and the equivalent model is £800.

My usual method of ownership is tick-tock, new iPhone in Sept-ish, new Samsung in April-ish. I get to try the latest and greatest and don't lose too much money. This will be the first year in a long time that I don't jump straight into the new iPhone.

The guy with the red glasses looks more like he is waiting for a colonoscopy than picking up a new phone.

Honestly, I think Apple introducing the 8 and X phone is a big mistake. If the X is eating away the 8 sales, that's BAD. If Apple knew that was going to happen, then why the hell did they produce the 8? They're about to start production of iPhone X in October fitting into a very tight schedule to meet demand by November 3rd, despite claims that they've been working on the X for years in advance. Something's not right.

I am wondering if another iteration of the 6 line (a 9) will come out next year as the unchanged X remains the flagship model for the year. Most people probably won't get it until half way through next year anyway. They might be planning to give themselves an extra year before moving completely to the new style, having got rid of the notch for the XI or whatever new naming system they work out by then. I still think the notch is a temporary workaround.

You and I are clearly reading very different articles and/or you must be short the stock.

Even without the X, Apple’s sales have been accelerating the past few quarters. It’s a lot more reasonable to assume then that X will only fuel those flames.
