Since I can't j*******k my iphone anymore, I might as well switch to the a*****d world and buy a s******g phone. Or, I'll go get the w*****s phone.

It's most likely a computerized system. Probably has a log of all the instances and someone will be going through that list and fixing the 'bad' hits. Already this morning if you go to the Thin Lizzy album the title and the song title are fine in their info page. So someone is probably already at work on that log. Then they will refresh the indexes to remove the issue from the search screens etc.

A momentarily hiccup that really isn't worth the hyperbolic posting that Apple is some big bad etc

Oh wait, it's an Apple post, and a Diss Apple post. That gets page hits. So yeah, I guess it is worth it to post about.

The point is Apple shouldn't have been censoring the word in the first place. If they hadn't have tried to censor it, this mistake would never have happened.

----------

Apple has not "censored" anything. In the US, only congress is prohibited from censorship. What Apple has done is make a business decision. And is we do not like it, we can shop elsewhere.

I don't think anyone was ever confused about that...

That's really clever. No one's going to look at the odd censoring and try to figure out what the word could be. No one at all.

Wow, everyone...

Have you considered the fact that it might just be an inside joke? Some Veep held a briefing that said something like 'Blah-bla-blah Jailbreak will now be a four-letter word at Apple blah-bla-blah', so the web guys make it so as a goof.

and get fired.

What is Apple coming to? Extremely sad.

Apple will revert this decision - too much of an embarrassment.

My guess is that some automated process is the cause of this, not someone deliberately censoring the word in Thin Lizzys album title.

Likely true, but to what end do you censor the word? Everyone knows what jailbreaking is and the vast majority don't do it. Those that are going to jailbreak their iOS devices are going to do it anyway...

I don't get what the big deal is here. You know what the censored word is, live with it. Apple is just working to protect the interests of its consumers from people trying to abuse their powerful technologies. If a few censored words like jailbreak prevent people from making the grave error of rooting their devices then we should all support this enhanced experience in iTunes Store.

Don't they already do that? I remember a story from a few years ago where Apple rejected an app because "Android" was mentioned in its description.

Yep, I think it mentioned that it was just like its Android version.

"Apps are forbidden from mentioning the name of other computer platforms, such as Microsoft Windows or Google Android." - AI article

Apple continues to do things that make me not like them.

How much more will they do before they finally break any remaining goodwill I have for them, making me not want to buy their products anymore?

There are limits to what one will tolerate to have shiny toys.
