That's one of the reasons tech leaders should never be involved in colouring their personal political preferences before elections... If the wrong person gets elected they're making a complete fool of themselves afterwards by attending this charm offensive. Keep it neutral is my humble opinion.

He's conducting meeting's with foreign heads of State (with his daughter), he's attending national security briefings, he's meeting heads of companies (with his children). Despite what you say - he has started - and his children - who are running his companies should not be attending those meetings - anyone who thinks otherwise is either a moron or an apologist.

I am not "giving him a chance" - I am calling him out on corruption - which this is.

His children are grown unlike most other presidents. It is widely known that Ivanka will not be a part of the businesses and instead be moving to Washington D.C. with her family. He has said that Donald Jr. and Eric will be at least partially running the businesses (with executives) but the exact structure of this is still being worked on by lawyers and will be announcing detail soon.

Further, he has also made clear that the businesses would be making no new deals while he is in office to keep it arm's length in appearance and fact.

He also knows how to make money(and avoid taxes).
The problem is that Trump sees most things as a zero-sum game. He certainly sees making business deals and paying taxes as him getting something out of it, not his partners. The world gets a better place when you are able implement win-win solutions, not when the biggest guy simply extracts as much as possible from the little guy.

Tim 'came out' and became an 'activist' when he schmoozed a very sick Steve Jobs to gain the Holy Grail of being CEO of Apple. Now, he's like dog dirt....ie ''he's everywhere" giving speeches and offering his 'take' on Society and the World At Large.
If only he was a 'next great thing' kind of guy like Steve. sigh.....instead it's been more and more of the 'same' merely made a bit thinner and a bit faster.

I'm most definitely no fan of Trump, but I have to admire this kind of approach. It's very unusual, seems like a break in protocol from the norm, and he just want to cut red tape to help businesses do better in the USA. It'll certainly be an interesting couple of years.

I have to agree here. Especially the suggestion to meet quarterly with all of these tech leaders. It shows a commitment to wanting to understand their concerns rather that just giving it one-and-done lip service.

Dude, seriously. Not that I like the fact that his kids are attending some of the meetings, but those in the room are sharks. You're talking about trillion dollar industry leaders and head of governments, some of them very powerful governments both militarily and for trade. Do you honestly think that they feel threatened in any way because Ivanka shows up? Or that they don't know already that whoever is close to the POTUS (be it a relative or a very close friends) carries a lot of weight? Come on. The real world is different, if anything Trump is more straightforward. As the Clinton emails have shown (and I am not picking on HRC in particular, it's just that it is the available info) this happens already, and in a much more subtle and invisible way.

Threatened is not what I mean. It means the dangers of back door deals. Deals that affect international relations. What happens is Trump business wants to develop in a particular country who's head of state is friendly with a country that has less than ideal relationship with the US. What happens if that head of state says 'tell your daddy if he wants to do business here, then he needs to back off ____ policy' Or 'tell you dad I can smooth things over with _____ if you promise to do business here instead of _____'

Get my drift?

Indeed. Embarassing - the Cookalike on the picture seems to have no idea what he should say
(Hillary, looking great - with your toupet a little loose today ?)

There has been a public request to the government, signed by 600,000 people or so, to keep Trump out of Britain, mostly because of his racist views. And if you go to Scotland, where he has been building a golf course, you will find thousands there who hate his guts.

But cheer up, you've got frog face and mini Trump.

Funny... people in Britain want to keep Trump out because he's racist. Britain's must be watching too much CNN and reading Yahoo articles from unknown media outlets. Love to hear why Brit's think he's racist?

Also... as an American, I really don't care what other countries think about Trump. If he does what he says, puts America first and can fix the problems he's promised, I'm all in. So far, I'm liking what I see.

That sounds like it went better than I expected and sounded good (for this topic only). Cook as head of Apple will do whatever he can to ensure things go okay for Apple with the new President. This could be an area where Trump could actually do some good (both from a societal as well as a strategic standpoint we could use to build things here in the U.S.). Beyond that I don't have much faith in the new administration.

WRT all these CEO's showing and up and being friends here, when it comes down to it, the govts hold all these companies balls in vices. That's why you don't normally have companies standing up to the governments on issues. I would expect the new government to order back doors in all smartphones (with secret gag orders of course) after getting into office (the Trump appointees in this area are much more pro-surveilance than the existing administration, which was a nightmare for privacy to begin with...remembering the FBI wanting a backdoor under Obama but backing off (that we know of) after a while). JMHO....

We are so lucky to have had the innovative immigrants we have who have made the US their home, and I hope Trump realizes that.

Albert Einsteen was a Jewish refugee.

Elon Musk is from South Africa.

The US's unusual success in the 20th century was in part due to the talent we attracted from around the world, including groups that were maligned at the time (and who still are to some extent). We have not done a good job in electing Trump at sending a message that the US is still the right place for the world's most talented to work. People who come to the US and set down roots are Americans, meaning their success is a shared success.

To be clear, Trump has stated that he loves immigrants. He wants more immigrants to come to the US and wants to give them the tools to flourish, but he wants them to do it legally. It undermines the system and everyone trying to do it the legal way, if you just allow people to come and stay undocumented. A nation without boarders is not a nation, so we just need to enforce our laws, and make the immigration system more efficient.

Keep in mind his wife is a first generation immigrant so that alone should speak for itself.

I really wish it could've been Steve at this meeting. Sorry Tim but Steve's Apple hugely changed the world every couple years with revoluationary products. Steve and Apple were like Elon and Tesla/SpaceX. Now in 5 years all that Tim's Apple has come up with it a Smartwatch that no one wants. Tim's a wallflower in this company. Steve would've been the brightest light in the room.

It happens already, and you don't need to be a relative to hear that stuff. Sad state of things, I give you that.

Not all Canadians feel this way.

MOST canadian's don't feel this way. As of the last popularity polls done on Trudeau so far, (as of Oct), he had popular support of 64%, which is one of the highest of any Prime Minister. based on recent numbers if The election were held this year, based on the new popular numbers, He would win a super majority (thats majority in the house AND 50%+ popular vote)

What most Conservative's in Canada don't recognise is that Canada on general is more left and progressive as a whole. What happens is that there are currently 4 "Left" parties (NDP, Liberal, Green, Bloc) that splits the vote of the left, and only one "right" winged party, that almost everyone "right" votes for. (In the last election, it meant 70% of the popular vote went to a left leaning candidate)

Unfortunately, the "progressives" in the right don't have any say because the current form of Conservative Party in Canada is more in line with the Canadian Alliance / Reform party of old, and shows almost no resemblance to the Progressive Conservatives of old (Progressive Social, but economic conservative).

This means that overall in Canada, the "right" is the minority. Even with 30% of the popular vote at last election, the Conservative Party of Canada would probably end up with even less than 30% if they were to have split and a new Progressive Conservative party were to exist.

the population of these closed minded, "old stock" Canadians is very, VERY low. but fiscal conservatives have little choice but to elect the "Canadian Tea Party", and the majority of that support comes from 2 provinces only.

So yes, not only do not all Canadians feel that way. MOST Canadians don't feel that way

Right you are. Many Canadians are delusional. Those that are, still apologize for Trudeau. Face it, you elected the Obama of the North, but unlike Americans you actually had years and years of real-life observation of Chicago Jesus and still went for it.

Admiral has been sock-puppeting these threads for almost a year. And you're doing such a great job, lol.

I don’t believe Cook’s excuse claiming a lack of vocational talent in U.S. manufacturing. After all, according to the AMA, the U.S. still manufacturers more products than we import. Look at our GDP. Not to forget, China’s machining and tooling capabilities were invented by the West. China’s labor advantage is that their labor pool has the patience to perform tedious manual assembly and quality checks but those tasks are on the drawing board to be performed by robots—something even Foxxcon is exploring.

Tim does not look happy to be there, the look on his face says it all.

Actually, all of us old folks look like we are frowning even when we’re not. The corners of our mouths start to droop when we hit 50.

I'm very happy to see Trump trying to bring in tech like this as well as other groups. All good and very refreshing to see.
Huh? This isn't new or novel.

Why on earth were Trumps children at this meeting??? Aren't they running his businesses??? Trump will go down in history as the most corrupt president America has ever had.

Total BS. His children are there because he's groomed them to be trusted advisors of his business endeavors. He's brought them along to be his eye and ears and to also assist him in making government decisions. Furthermore, let's say this was actual "corruption". How is this any different than when any number of First Ladies try to create policy? How is this different than when the Clintons set up Chelsea in plush jobs? How is this any different when the FOUR generations of the Bushs and Kennedys, 2 generations of the Gores and and a host of others are made the political elite. I could go on. #GetReal

The nepotism and kleptocracy here is insane. He had three of his adult children and his son-in-law in on this meeting with tech leaders that was ostensibly for advising on US policy. Anyone who doesn't think this was in part at least to advance the business interests of Trump Inc. just isn't paying attention.

How Tim could calmly sit across from the openly anti-gay Steve Bannon is beyond me.
