Cook really only has two choices.

- Attend these dinners/meetings to hear first hand about what the administration is doing.
- Don’t attend and be kept in the dark about upcoming changes that could adversely affect your company.
So Cook went to that dinner for business purpose. You can always find excuses. Ethics comes after business, Cook isn’t better than any other.

For those that believe that the Saudi's had nothing to do with Jamals death, I'd suggest reading the Vanity Fair article on their Death Jet that lured expats and they were prisoned or never heard from again. The fact that Tim Cook is friendly with the Trump Administration demonstrates his support of their actions.
It’s not so much support for their actions (he doesn’t care) as it is support for his family making business deals with them. That’s all he cares about. Hard to believe we’re seeing this level of open blatant corruption but here we are.

Not to mention that there are reports linking Saudi Arabia to the genocide in Sudan.

It must be weird for Cook going from Trump 1 to Biden to Trump 2. As a CEO of an American multinational multibillion company you cannot escape the graft and corruption, if you stand up you hurt your company financially and aren’t doing your job, but asa person that HAS to be filled with weird moments, cringe moments and bizarre insights. And while I think that Musk,by his very upbringing, can embrace the fascist aspects of all this, Cook comes from a more liberal background, the Apple/Benetton idea of a company actively making the world more creative and better. Even through the deals with China you probably can uphold a shred of that, telling yourself that a tight cooperation might bring democratic values as trickle down to the People’s Republic.

But at the current neon bright hunger games caricature of autocracy… I would love to hear what tales Cook tells his closest friends of the things he sees and hears. And I wonder how he feels about it.

"ditching your moral compass" is hardly accurate. You don't even know the man. It's disappointing to see Cook and Trump together. It really feels like they should be at odds but we know both of their motives. Cook wants to do what's best for his company and Trump wants to do what's best for his ego.
What's best for his company seems to have suddenly changed to suit the moment. For years Apple's been standing on its eco image, its privacy image, its accessibility and its diversity image. And now their image is "let's just make money and not care who gets cut up into chunks, or abducted off the street"? If they want us to judge them on their morals we will. The backlash here is completely justified and Cook as CEO absolutely should be held to account for how he chooses to balance Apple's priorities.

Looking forward to all our “Tim Cook is a disgrace!” moral purists ditching their iPhones (that were produced in evil, repressive China) for their new, US home-made Liberty smartphones. Just $2000 for 2011 tech!

Then again, most batteries are also produced in evil China, so I guess they’ll just have to crank their portable charger handles real fast.
Also made in china! 🤣

Did he gift MBS a gold Apple Edition iBoneSaw?

I guess he'd visit an Epstein girls party if it added anything to shareholder value... feeling that's what "free market late stage capitalism" has become (not to mention a multi-trillion dollar Ponzi scheme grift)... and remember morals have nothing to do with profits.

A few thoughts……I don’t give a damn about share prices. And Apple is a rock in that regard so a few points here or there only affects those who day play the market. I do give a big damn about a moral compass and standing up for what you preach. Tim has neither attribute. This is a poker game that all the tech creeps folded in before the first draw. Pathetic. Yes I would love to have an alternative to Apple products….even this issue. But there isn’t one right now. However that does not relieve my utter disappointment at him sucking up to Trump at every opportunity.

Two (or more) things can be wrong at once. If it is comprehensible to you, of course.

And they still are.

the above hyperbole is not remotely true.

I don’t know who “us” is, but I’m not judging anybody. But others are.

Sure. Most people don’t care about the “backlash. “ Apple doesn’t care about MR backlash nor does Tim Cook. If people want to stop buying Apple products because of this, they should. Put their money where their mouths are.
