This is only due to the actual documentation of visa's. There's a paper trail to people overstaying their visa's. There's no paper trail or concrete statistics on actual people smuggling and illegal border crossing. To use the visa statistic, you'd have to get a more realistic statistic on border jumping but unfortunately the US doesn't know how many are actually getting across undetected.
You mean they want to build a wall which is super expensive because it is supposed to be a miracle solution to immigration.... yet... they don't know how many cross the border that way?

Sounds like something wise to do

Apple is doing so well nowadays that the CEO believes he should dedicate a significant part of his time to social justice instead of to running the company. Maybe Apple needs a new CEO?

CPO: Chief Political Officer.

Yes, he wants more H1-B foreign workers to replace Americans who demand a living wage.

Tim Cook disgusts me.
I wonder what he has to say about mega corporations showing up and causing local home prices to become unaffordable for most people in the area.

That’s exactly what Americans need, more illegals taking the few jobs that are available

And McDonald’s isn’t considered a viable job to support yourself

We are having a labor shortage. And with the low-tax, low regulation economy, McDonald's jobs are what you get. We need more jobs that call for skills and education, and thus pay more. Undocumented immigration is what deregulated labor looks like. The place to control it is HR and hiring. But small companies don't want it. Even Donald Trump's golf course ran "illegals" through the grondskeepers and waiters. He's a cheapskate, and he always goes for the lowest salary. Employed a half a village in Costa Rica at the Bedminster.

Don't need a stupid fence. Just some sensible regulations, more taxes on the rich, and an economy that gives work its due.

Serious question. Could you please help me understand why you believe a physical wall would actually stop much illegal immigration? (ps. this is meant to be a civil, calm, discussion, and not poking at one side or another being bad).

All studies report that a) vast number of illegals are not from sneaking across the Mexico border but rather overstaying their visitor visa b) Physical wall can be bypassed by digging tunnels, a large ladder, etc. c) The cost and resources to build one along the entire wall are massive. This clip from John Oliver summarizes a lot of this discussion (albeit a bit too comical but I didnt have time to start pulling up the assessments from the more serious news sites)

More Canadians in U.S. overstayed visas than any other foreigners:

Most illegal immigration comes from visa overstays, and most visa overstays come from Canadians. But we don't say anything because the Canadians are white people. @10:45:

Bingo. But the odds of that happening seem to be dropping by the minute. In short: control the borders to stop this from happening again, and be compassionate to people already here since they were young.
I've always been willing to trade Dreamers for the 25 billion dollar wall. This actually might have been offered at one point.

Of course. On the other hand they are very polite, and they bring their own winter coats and boots, thus not depleting our precious bodily coverings.

Tim Cook spends more time pushing his political views than he does on apple products. Sad!

Simple reason, pushing political views only involves OPM. Whats OPM? Other People's Money.

If Cook wants these Dreamers here, why doesn't he personally or Apple support them? Instead hardworking taxpayers that already are not able to support their own children are required to support these illegal immigrants.

Now I am not against immigration, as long as it is legal. Fill out the forms and have a job, and you're welcome. Invade us by sneaking across the boarder to steal our public funds, no way.

You probably do not understand that large tech company CEOs take on many roles and have many responsibilities. And that Apple's previously announced 2019 release for the MacPro has absolutely nothing to do with Mr. Cook advocating for his DACA employees.

Actually, I understand a CEO's role quite well. As for the Mac Pro, Apple announced over 19 months ago that they were working on a redesigned Mac Pro, but they have never committed to a release date, so your statement above about Apple announcing a 2019 release is incorrect.

We will see when they release a new Mac Pro, but the fact remains that the last update was in 2013. It is now 2019. And that actually has merit in the conversation/question of is Apple focused enough on making Macs and supporting creative professionals? Or is their focus perhaps being distracted by their political views? It is a valid question in this conversation, especially given how little focus Apple has given its professional user base over the last 7 years.

Yep, we see this at the hospital all the time. Immigrants who speak no English come in, no insurance, and no intentions of paying back the medical bill. But plenty of my friends have exorbitantly high health insurance plans who can barely afford to pay their deductibles. It’s madness that we’ve allowed our political system to become so corrupted that they have allowed our system to support illegal immigration over legal immigrants and it’s own citizenry. In my opinion, DACA sends out a terrible message for immigration policy. Essentially, if your parents break the law, you get the benefit. It’s wrong, plain and simple.

I saw earlier about the wall... it is being built - whether by force or (unlikely) congress. They’ve already started another section with the money Trumps already got set aside.

That being said I love you Apple but spend time on the iPhone xi and a MAJOR overhaul with iOS 13 (plus products like AirPower that were announced 2 years ago) and stop making everything political

Why do people come to the USA, either legally or illegally? The standard of life is much better in this country when compared to their own. Reasonable.

Political reasons - apply for asylum, or change the situation at your homeland. Do not trade in any form with these nations - if their countries looked more like the USA, why would they need to come here?

Economic reasons - What the immigrant can do - wait in line. What the USA can do? Make it impossible to work here without a permit. The only way to get there is to hold the Employers to the law. There is a system available to verify this - force them to use it under penalty of law.

When ICE raids a place and finds undocumented laborers, they just jail those workers. They should shut down such places, inform the local authorities formally about such violations so that licenses can be revoked, and pay a huge fine per person found. These fines should be a detriment that is immediately enforceable - say about $50,000, equal to a years wage that a worker with permit would cost. And punitive fines.

We are having a labor shortage - yet employers are hiring people they can pay pittance under the table. That is Tax Violation. The threat of this crime alone should stop these employers - but, it is not happening, now.

Wonder if he'd ever push for a Mac reform..

The iPad Pro is his idea of Mac reform. 1/10th the capability, 3 times the cost, locked down to the point where's a dumb appliance rather than a general use computer. And so heavily reliant on Apple services it's more a conduit to expenses than a computing device. Propped up by billions of dollars of utterly stupid marketing like "what's a computer". Timmy shouldn't be bragging that he doesn't know what a computer is.

Please, no more of Timmy's Mac reform.

I agree.
But this will never happen because both sides have lobbies that are addicted to cheap labor.

We talk about DACA and since I make decent money I'm supposed to pay for my children's college, but the DACA person gets financial aid.

Because I was able to save some money and buy property, I'm now supposed to sell it or mortgage it, while the people that didn't do anything ride on my tax dollars.

Yeah, this system is severely broken.

Close enough: "We want to be transparent and communicate openly with our pro community so we want them to know that the Mac Pro is a 2019 product. It’s not something for this year,” Tom Boger, Apple’s senior director of Mac hardware product marketing, told TechCrunch."

As an aside, Apple never gives a precise release date for new products.

Oh, ok... Valid? So Apple is redeploying their Mac Pro product specialists, system architects, system engineers, hardware design engineers, mechanical engineers, physical design specialists, firmware and software engineers, coders, technicians, production manufacturing specialists, marketing managers, etc, etc. to work instead on advocating for Apple's DACA employees?

That's right. Just soak the rich. That will fix all the problems. Sure thing, buddy.

Stemming the tide of illegal immigration is not complicated.
  • First to US businesses and the Chamber of Commerce: STOP HIRING ILLEGALS. STOP. You're helping to destroy your own country for a cheap nanny or cheap day laborers.
  • Second Build a Wall and seal that border.
Not complicated.

Yeah, this system is severely broken.

There is no political will in this country to fix "Black Market" labor by anyone. Somehow, those hiring are seen as benign, not even White collar criminals. The entire political spectrum is unwilling to give up its day laborers and landscapers.

Yeah, this system is severely broken.

DACA recipients are not eligible for Federal financial aid. Depending on the state, they may be eligible for state financial aid.

In the US, roughly 2/3 of college students take advantage of federal and state financial aid in some form; ie grants and loans. I suspect DACA students represent a tiny percentage.

But most are not.

He campaigned on Mexico paying for the wall, not American tax payers. It's a losing proposition for him no matter how you look at it.

I do believe the majority of Americans are for The Wall, and for keeping illegal immigrants out. You saying "most are not" leads me to believe your a hard core CNN viewer.
