Hmm... I wonder if Apple might want to position it as an alternative to using a Macbook Pro with an external GPU? You know, for VR/AR content creation, but you don't want an iMac Pro and a new Mac Pro will be 'too Pro'.

I hope this is the evidence needed for the countless people that are insistent on the idea that Apple have axed it.

Timmy and the stooges have been saying Mac Pro is an important part of their lineup for years. We're now coming up on the 4th anniversary of the mac trashcan edition which itself was a huge disappointment that the fanbois were insisting was just a beacon of what Apple had in store.

Can't innovate Phil Shiller's ass? I think we've got enough hindsight now to see how innovate Apple was on that mac pro line.

Just remember.... If a new mini actually does come out.... It's gunna be another loooooong 4 years until it gets a spec bump

So buy (or don't buy) accordingly.

Good news indeed, straight from the source for a change. Looking forward to a new mini in the near future.

Apple is becoming unbearable nowadays.

If it's important, update it. Don't make fat margins selling 3 year old technology. It's not technically unethical, but it's smarmy. (And brand destroying over time)

What I worry about is a replay of the MacBook Pros. Also long overdue. Also said an important part of the Apple strategy. And the release was so illformed with shoddy low quality keyboards. People are looking to buy older machines or continue to wait.

I wish there was someone at the top of Apple who still loved computers. I know there are tons of people who work at Apple who do, but just not on the executive team. Yes, they love Apple. Yes, they love their customers, They just don't love computers and the power of the tools they sell. It really shows.

I actually love the new keyboard. I can't go back to my old MBP keyboard... feels mushy and cheap. That said, the Touch Bar doesn't justify the big premium... at least for me.

Me too. MacBook and Mac mini are the perfect machines to start switching. I look forward to a Mac mini powered by A12.

The thing is, a *lot* of people will consider mac dead at that point and reluctantly move on. Do you really think there will be enough people to justify an A12 mac ore are those the people who may as well just buy an iPP?

Personally, I have no use for a machine that can't run x64 binaries fast. But then I use my mac for a lot more than posting iPhone snapshots to instagram.

When I look at all the grizzled (read: ageing and out of touch) senior VPs at Apple, I really feel it's high time some young blood is injected into the core personnel.

I don't know if it is irony or what, but isn't one of the benefits of BYOKMM is that you have a decent Keyboard and Mouse, or monitor. Frankly my 24" monitor from 2012 is crap compared to the options available today, including ultra-wides for less than what I paid for my standard 24" in 2012.
I'm not in love with my keyboard either, it is like a 2002 clear plastic extended keyboard b/c my bluetooth alumnium died.
If apple come out with a TouchID keyboard I won't really have anything to BYO acessories.

You need an understanding of the PC industry in general right now to understand why Apple isn't releasing new machines in the way they use to.

The entire industry has seen a big slowdown in sales. There are less and less desktops and laptops being sold. Because of this, it doesn't make financial sense to invest heavily in releasing a steady stream of new machines as they've all done in the past. They'd be wasting their money trying to capture buyers from a smaller and smaller market. You don't invest where the market is drying up.

Instead, they've put their resources where the money and sales growth is. Smartphones and even tablets.

There's a reason Apple is the richest company in the world and you're not a CEO. They understand where to invest their resources for the best return.

*cough*

Offering units with 3+ year old tech doesn’t move units. It’s not that they need to be “innovative” and introduce a new chassis-it’s that they need to be offering today’s chips... not a few generations back.

I’m not a CEO, I am a consumer and I make the decisions on where to spend my dollars-with what Apple is offering, I don’t see any value for buying what they are offering, and I am not the only one. That is something a CEO should take into account. Not that a single lone customer isn’t buying-but there’s a ripple effect and if you look through the forums you’ll hear the echoing. Something along the lines of “I’m usually the family/group tech guy and answer questions and point people to products/phones/computers/etc. and I can’t honestly recommend what apple is currently offering...”

Just noticed that the Apple online store doesn't even show the Mini paired with the only display Apple now sells (LG); it is still shown with an Apple display.

Too little too late for me, I went hackintosh. This is great news all the same. I really hope whatever they do is more consumer friendly than this current mini. There is absolutely no reason ever to solder the ram on a desktop computer or to use a low power laptop processor. I really hope apple can make the mini an actual desktop again. If they make a true desktop (essentially a 4k imac without the display, no soldered ram, and no laptop processors) I would consider buying it to get full support from apple and I would turn my hackintosh into a dedicated windows gaming machine.

I think we might be surprised. It feels like they are being so mum about it because they're planning it to be a "one more thing"... thing when the new lineup materializes. This statement definitely doesn't read like something about a spec bump. Maybe it won't even be a Mac mini anymore, just some thing sharing a small form factor.
