EDIT: also, my imagination tells me that we have already spent tax money on them, for example by putting them through public school. now we're going to piss away those skills and give that away to somewhere else?

I never thought of it that way, and don't remember this being brought up, but that's actually a good point. Kicking out the Dreamers would be a waste on so many levels.

Just read this and it's spot on:

DACA does not cost taxpayers any money and they do not receive federal aid. They pay 2 billion in taxes a year. They have not committed any crime as well. Ending DACA results in costing 60 billion dollars to deport them all and costs the economy 150 billion a year. Trump is just appealing to his racist base of about 25% of his voters. Those Dreamers are getting an education...something Trump supporters lack.

"protect the children of immigrants"

Those were not immigrants! They were illegal aliens! What don't people get about this?

You use the term to mean something like "they have typhoid!" The people who joined the DACA program volunteered all their data and information to the government. They came here, on average, about 6. They were investigated, and they have no criminal backgrounds, no felony or serious misdemeanors, they pay $500 to renew their licenses every two years. They're employed, in school, or in the military. There are 800,000 of them, they're young and well-educated, honest and productive. You'd be sending them back to a country they don't know. We'd be losing nearly a million productive people. Why? What for? White grievance?

Taking what jobs exactly? Every white American including my 18 year old nephew may be getting great grades but HE and his possee show NO ambition and have lived an incredibly PRIVILEDGED life including planned activities like soccer, basketball, camps, golf etc etc etc.

When SOME of these loudest critics prove that their children are hard workers, have a work ethic, and have PASSION to accomplish anything anything for god sake - I'll listen.

HEAR THIS

Americas productivity problem comes from a material driven society that could care less about the conscience of its fellow citizens as long as their cable, internet, smart phones and their two jet skis in their garages are safe! Oh and that they have access to plenty of ammo and dates at the local shooting range.

I started working a job as a stock boy at age 12. My nephew and his friends are 18 going on 19 and yet to HOLD A JOB..these kids have never picked up a hammer or know what the hell a paintbrush can do.

Yea - oh the humanity is right.

America -- if you really want to work then get off your asses and effect real change.

More liberal crying, Trump was elected president of the United States... 100% legally, now he can do what he wants the next 4 years and you will like it. No? Then you have a chance in 2020 to put in your favorite Marxist

Yeah you seem to forgot your history before it was America it was a British Colony before that it belonged to the original natives so tell us how your ancestors where citizens of AMERICA when there was no America. Under Trump we are failing American History.
Try again , I'm talking about my direct ancestors, they came across well after the country was formed. Nobody gave two ****s. Irish and Polish...the lowest of the low. Please don't tell me what went down with my own family.

So you want to keep them into this Deferral program forever, or do you want congress to fix it?

Didn't realize there were so many trumpets on this site. Sad.

Actually when it comes to immigration liberals (not the parties) are in agreement that something must be done to reform the system. The temp workers visa's 800K per year depress wages for Americans with the lowest skills. They are forced to compete against non citizens. Might be a reason for no wage gains for the lower third of the workforce. If we allow children who come here with their parents to stay we are putting out a sign saying "come here illegally and your kids can stay". Nope can't have that. So in the end these kids are really not citizens. Their parents knew this and they did as well.

Nothing stopped their parents from going back to the country they came from with the kids and doing things the legal way.

Unless you are descended from a Native American tribe, you really aren't either. And I'd prefer any of these dreamers to any of the native-born dregs we have here who seem to be more into opioids, white supremacy, and militias than contributing to this nation.
So you think the US should have no restrictions on immigration? If some don't have to follow the rules, why should anyone have to?

You don't get it either. Illegal aliens are not immigrants.

If you want to get technical, look up the definition. Yes, they're immigrants.

Also, it's not illegal when the government already said you could stay.

The bigger question is, what exactly are anti-DACA people afraid of?

How long has it been since your ancestors came to this once foreign land to escape poverty and persecution that you can no longer empathize with today's immigrants and their plight? Where's your humanity?

This country has more than enough resources to take care of everyone here and many others around the world. If anyone let you down, it's the corrupt government so lay your blame where it belongs and demand more from your government instead of looking for scapegoats among the innocent.

Continued, willful ignorance of the illegal immigrants is not the answer. It is time for Congress to pass meaningful immigration reform that includes early identification of people who are in the country illegally and ensuring they are brought into compliance or deported in a reasonable period of time. Some allowance may need to be made for those that have slipped through the cracks for many years, but future enforcement simply must be structured to keep the situation from festering as long as it has in the past.

While I'm certainly no supporter of the "Papers please" oversight of the government like people faced in East Germany in the '50s - '80s, it is not unreasonable to expect parents of children to provide proof of legal residency before receiving public benefits including health care and education. With today's information systems it should be quite easy to ensure everyone is in compliance with immigration laws and track down those that should have left after overstaying a tourist visa.

The blame for any child "who grew up in the United States and have lived in the country since childhood could face deportation to countries that are essentially foreign to them" falls squarely on the parents. I feel bad for those kids, but if we simply grant citizenship based on their lack of knowledge of the illegal actions of their parents it will do nothing but encourage that continued behavior. We have to make the consequences serious enough to act as a discouragement for other contemplating the same actions.

That law could have been passed long ago, if only for one thing: John Boehner should have allowed a free vote on the bill. He didn't. He held it until he could find a majority in the Republican Party. If he had allowed a vote, it would have passed in a landslide.

Well, sorry for bringing it up again, but first of all, he didn’t win the majority of votes by a few millions, and second does it make an inhuman decision better if the majority of people grants it? Oh yeah, guess who else was elected a few 50 years back in good old Germany?
He who shall not be named actually never won a majority of the popular vote in any election either. ;)

People need to remember Muller is getting closer to the whole Russian Collusion this is just Trump trying to distract the bigger issue and how his son committed treason even his son-in-law. Why is Trump hiding his Tax Returns when he is the one constantly breaking Tax Laws and making excuses such as "If I can get away with it why is it wrong" while his crying about DACA people and how they don't pay taxes. Donald Trump is the king of Tin Foil and Alex Jones is the queen of Tin Foil news. Donald Trump does not know any of the American constitution except for the second amendment he does not even know about American History which has been proven with Andrew Jackson and a General who states stopped Muslims.

good for him. if these people are working, paying their taxes, and obeying the law, what is the problem?

"but they're illegal!" their parents may have been, but they (the kids) were brought here or born here without any choice. now we've let them live here and develop skills, and contribute to our society and people want to send them away?

why would you punish someone for a crime they did not commit? absolutely no one on earth appreciates being at fault for something they did not do.

EDIT: also, my imagination tells me that we have already spent tax money on them, for example by putting them through public school. now we're going to piss away those skills and give that away to somewhere else?
Well, you ask some fair questions.
1) DACA is a program created through executive order for children that were brought to the US (not born here - those don't need DACA protection). It set forth a criteria (age, duration in US, education, crime-free record, etc.) to identify people that were more likely a benefit to the United States vs. criminals or other illegal aliens.
2) DACA was likely started with good intentions, but it was done through executive branch (Obama Administration) action, not as an act of congress. It raised legal questions as to what authority the President had to waive immigration law.
3) Trump is addressing the #2 issue above by saying that, if Congress wants to keep DACA, then it must enact law(s) to do so. It should be the one to alter immigration law accordingly.
4) Illegal aliens in the US are an issue. Ignoring the issues of the increase burden on social programs, education, etc. as well as crimes committed by some of these immigrants, they are also an affront to those who do come to the US legally and go through the legal process to become citizens. This type of illegal immigration wouldn't be tolerated in most countries and it is illogical to expect different of the US.

Frankly, I think that this is a brilliant move by Trump. Democrats and Republicans alike have both come out and said that DACA should stay, so he is putting it to them to make it happen. This is a Congress that can't get together to do anything, so now that they have a common cause (at least that is their claim), then maybe they will learn to actually pass legislation. Then they can move on to Tax Reform and other issues.
