Being Hetertosexual is a natural occurrence in nature, we are born with the instinct to procreate.

Yeah, newsflash, homosexual's can have kids too. It's 2014 AD, not BC, cavemen stopped dragging women around a looooong time ago.

Then again, you watch the Flintstone's as if it were a history lesson.

What has surprised me is we are over a 1000 posts, in and so far no one has put the blame for Tim Cook being gay on President Obama yet.:p:D:p:D:p

You're wasting your words on these people. They are committed to ignoring what you say and will never, ever give you a fair hearing.

Exactly. Just like you won't give them a fair hearing either. You believe your bigoted religious garbage and think you have some right to judge others and decide what is right and wrong based on your book of fairytales. And we believe you're a worthless bigot for it. So there you go.

right or wrong the only thing i could think on seeing this "news article" was :

how the hell is this news, why, today, are we still bothered about sexual orientation, as long as someone isn't going after 5 year olds then really, the fact they are gay, straight, bi , isn't important and certainly isn't news worthy,

but maybe its just me that thinks we moved passed all this stuff years ago

This is mostly an American peculiarity. As with a lot of social things, we Americans are infantilized on subjects of sexuality, equal rights, death, profanity on television, you name it...

Not saying that these views don't exist elsewhere in the world but the US is one of the few technologically advanced, first world nations that is behind on a number of things that other nations with comparable wealth/GDP per capita have moved well beyond culturally.

A lot of this traces back to the reintegration of religion into politics vis-a-vis Reagan's candidacy. Reagan was a Catholic and like Kennedy he feared that the Protestant majority in the US might not give him the election. So he purposefully pandered to/courted the Evangelical vote by enlisting the aid of another television personality, Billy Graham.

Since then, America has been sliding backward in terms of its intellectual maturity and we can't seem to handle even the very idea of debate where people constantly pull the religion/"this offends me" card to try to sidestep or censor debate entirely. Something that, in my experience, grown adults just do not do.

So there you are.

I'm agnostic/atheist myself, but I do find it humorous how I've yet to really see a convincing argument from anyone (including Dawkins, Hitchens and Harris) for secular morality. As far as I can tell, it kinda doesn't exist.

All of the things you've mentioned (common sense, intuition, conscience) have been HEAVILY influenced by your culture. And if you live in the west, that culture is inextricably linked to judeo-christian ethics.

I find most atheist are completely ignorant (or in denial) about the degree to which their entire moral philosophy has been dictated by christianity/judaism.

Ya as someone who teaches anthropology, this is wayyyy off. Many indigenous cultures incorporated sense of morality based on these abilities. And in fact, many of them did this much better than either early Judeo-Christian culture or our secularly based culture that we have today.

Hands, planes and cars all have a purpose that is entirely different than that of guns and atom bombs. By definition guns are used to kill. They make killing easier and ate intended to do so. That is the difference, and the reason why there should be less guns and atom bombs, and why they should be illegal.
Making guns illegal, ...
1. is unrealistic
2. Would give the advantage to those who obtain them illegaly

Holy crap! When I first saw the article I thought that it was someones idea of a really bad joke or that someone had hacked MacRumors.

Well that it explains it! Now we all know where the obsession with being "thin and gorgeous" comes from. Edwina Monson! It's an Ab Fab thing. :p

I couldn't be happier for Tim.

I want to live in a world that this isn't news. I want to live in a world where this doesn't matter. But we don't live in that world.

I hope we all live to see a day and age when equality is the norm both socially and legally. Sadly we aren't there yet, as Tim writes legal discrimination is still prevalent.

This is important. Both on the macro level of America's most important company having a gay ceo, and the micro level of being a role model to young people coming to grips with themselves.

I can't imagine how powerful it must be for a teen in the Deep South to know that Tim Cook was just like them. And it gets better.

So thank you Tim for this selfless act of giving away your privacy to help others.

So you want to live in a world where this kind of thing isn't news? Me too. Ask Tim, he's the one that made the statement. He could've kept it to himself wouldn't have made a difference either way to me. So in effect, it could be a "not news" thing but everyone is deciding to make it news. That being said I think it's stupid that people have to "come forward" Just live you life, who the hell cares what anyone thinks. This is America people are supposed to be free to do whatever they want.

You know what I got out of your wall of text? You're just another religious person who picks and chooses what parts of the Bible to believe and/or follow unless you don't eat shellfish or wear mixed blend clothing or your wife wasn't a virgin or...

I'm saddened at the fact that that is all you got out of it.

I don't know what "religious" means to you (but I infer by your tone, that's bad).

So let me cut to the chase: I believe the entire Bible. In it God gives HIS concepts for right and wrong. Unfortunately, homosexual behavior is one of those things. He also gives us the solution; what to do, when we do wrong in His eyes. The book is not about condemnation, but about forgiveness.

If you want more details, read it. Or don't. You are free to choose. No hard feelings. Cool?

Suddenly everything sounds so funny

It doesn't matter if you are born gay or not. How you got there as not bearing on the current state. He is gay. period.

Exactly. Just like you won't give them a fair hearing either. You want to believe your bigoted religious garbage. And we want believe you're a worthless bigot for it. So there you go.

Why should I listen to what you have to say? I don't think gays are horrible, evil people. But you think religious people are "worthless bigots".

Who sounds more reasonable? Me, or you?

You forgot to ask, "When did you stop beating your wife?"
Why do you I assume I hate people if I warn them not to indulge in demonstrably destructive behavior? Indeed, it could be argued that I hate them if I did not warn them.

You don't see anything hateful about comparing two gay people in a loving, committed relationship to prostitution and VD? You're blind.

Thankfully your kind are dying off. Except in the third world where no one is educated. Hmmm. Interesting correlation. Places where religion has the strongest grasp...are the places where people are the least educated. Color me surprised.

Interesting. Apparently, you believe that those who are "educated", are the ones who have your own view.

I believe homosexuality is wrong, so I am stupid. And thankfully, we are dying away, so that the world will be a better place. (trying to make a point here)

There is good education, and bad education. Good education is, truth.

probably to prepare to make an announcement about a new Apple product designed for gays? :p

Honestly though... he's quote as stating why. Don't really need to explain it.

That's what I said. Do you remember that you're the one who challenged people to explain it?

It will be interesting to see what happens when he visits certain countries now. In many countries, gay men can be jailed or executed simply for being gay. As one myself, I would never take the chance to visit such places.

Please do not put things in my mouth. I do not hate gays. I would treat any homosexual that I greet with respect and kindness, but that would be the extent of our relationship.

That's fine by me. It's a step in the right direction.
