No. It isn't. That is always a terrible comparison. Even many in the LBGT community don't like that comparison. Genetically, those aren't in the same sphere.

That's like saying you don't support his skin colour.

According to this logic, animals are "free-will beings" who "can choose" to abuse gods will....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexual_behavior_in_animals

Sounds like you're trying to make an argument along the lines that an animal eating a young child is somehow doing God's will. The machine of the world went bonk thanks to Adam's sin. We wouldn't expect things to work properly ever since. Have I missed your point?

really good question. I don't know if I have the exact answer to that.I do think that religion should not be exempt of critique. They do spread bigotry, misogyny and discriminatory behavior. I am only calling them out on it.

There is a whole study about the amygdala and how the brain stop processing information in a rational way. It been show that people who are confronted about their religious beliefs triggers the amygdala and prevents rational thinking. I am not an expert of the subject. You can google it if you want.

I find that religion frees my mind. When someone challenges mine, I find it interesting to find the answer to their question.

One interesting thing I do know is that science cannot explain God, as it is not the correct instrument for that. Kind of like measuring blood sugar with a ruler.

As for the things you want to Google, could you please help us read from the same article and post it here? (Kind of funny, as there are at least 68 different bibles out there)

What would the reaction have been if he'd said...

“ I’m so proud to be straight, and I consider being straight among the greatest gifts God has given me”.

I mean we're all equal and all that so why should gays be given headline news just because they announce they are gay?

I think you have missed his point entirely. We do not have any vile of hatred toward practicing religious people. Our objections are with beliefs system that promote bigotry, discrimination and mysogony.

That is an interesting choice of words. Which religion are you referring to when you say "religious people"?

They are wildly different.

From my perspective, Christianity is promoting nothing but love, forgiveness, redemption and peace. Anyone who does otherwise is not a Christian.

I concede that terrible things have been done in its name, by people who claim to be Christians. The same can be said for Darwinists (Hitler being the worst example) and just about any other group out there, religious or otherwise.

My goal is to clarify some of these things; to let people know that there is hope and love out there, for everybody. God will judge everyone. I try not to (not my job).

But He also told us what right and wrong is. It is my responsibility to inform, nothing more. I stick to that message, but I understand that others may not.

I'm fine with that.

Hate and anger are not necessary, or implied (in my posts, at least).

I was agreeing with you.

Oh, sorry. My cynical mind took *DOZENS* as sarcasm. Either that or a reference to this...

Because many members of society doesn't accept gay people.

All members of society accepts straight people, so doing what you say wouldn't make the news.

Tim Cook did what was necessary.

I am not passionate about this issue either way - but I can tell you that you are typical of people who support gay marriage - 99% of people in favor of gay marriage are so ignorant about the reasons people oppose gay marriage that it is embarrassing. This issue has been in the news 10-15 years and only one side has learned anything. The other rages on about hate in their ignorance.

I know its tough for people to understand the real issues from the political but the people who want gay marriage are the aggressors in this issue by inventing a new right that has never ever existed - ever - out of thin air and then being shocked when the rest of society does not jump on board. I think gay marriage is harmless because marriage is DOA, gays don't even marry when they can so it is all showboating (tiny percentages), and who cares. But there are hundreds of reasons to oppose gay marriage that have nothing to do with God but no one knows about them because that would take mental effort, compassion, and empathy on the side of the people pushing for gay marriage and its so much easier to say, "THEY HATE US." But also so dumb.

I'm sure you can give me a list of "hundreds of reasons" why I shouldn't be married to my husband. Knock yourself out.

Some things I don't understand about the USA (I've not being there):

-Why do people dislike gays and black people so much

-Why do people prefer to spend their taxes on giving democracy to someone on the other side of the world but don't want to spend their taxes on improving the health of another american

I'm talking seriously, it's A-M-A-Z-I-N-G

You're so advanced in many senses and so absurd in others

You watch too much news and know too few Americans. Most of use don't care about such trivial things. But it is politically useful for one of the parties to promote race as 99% of AfAms vote for them and it is useful for both political parties to talk about gay marriage because it is a big social issue. Dislike gays and blacks? Stop watching the news and meet people. Americans are generally incredibly tolerant except for in rare bigoted places like the deep south, San Francisco, New York, Portland and maybe some parts of Texas.

Sure, there are racists and bigots in America. Just like everywhere. Just like the Chinese don't like some people, etc, etc ,etc.

I don't hate anyone. Not even you. You hate me, though. That would make you the "hater". Own it!

The fact that you refuse to recognize or acknowledge that you act in an extremely hateful manner to people who've done you no harm does absolutely nothing to change the fact that you do hateful things and are motivated by hateful beliefs.

I don't think you can answer 'when'. That's like asking someone "When did you choose to start eating your vegetables".
I think the correct question is 'why?'

But I agree that everyone has a choice. We are intelligent human beings, in that the one thing that drives us beyond any other living thing on the planet is that we can make a choice.

Unfortunately, people choose to make bad choices, even when the majority of society agrees that your choice is a poor one. (I'm talking about smoking)

So you chose? You sat down and made a conscious decision one day to stop being attracted to people of your own gender, and instead only be attracted to people of the 'opposite' gender?

Really? Hey, people! We finally found one!

I was conditioned by my family to be straight because they are God-fearing people and they had raised me to be Christian. If they raised me to be gay then obviously I would not be straight. There are reasons why people attracted to the opposite sex but they fall under one category a disconnect from God.

So your family had to brainwash you into being straight? Dude, I'm so sorry. That must have *sucked* as a child. I can only hope that, at some point in your life, you recover from such emotional trauma.

I'm sure you can give me a list of "hundreds of reasons" why I shouldn't be married to my husband. Knock yourself out.

See - this is just the typical response. Take an hour and go read the internet. Get educated. Why should I have to educate you on a major social issue - especially one that intimately involves you? When you understand others you are more likely to be able to persuade them. As we can see on this board hate and ignorance from either side is incredibly unpersuasive.

I also did not say it was my opinion. Just educated people or at least people that pretend learn about more than one side of an issue.

Knock yourself out: www.google.com. Its not that hard.

Do you go around telling everyone your straight? Coz gays have a habit of doing that.

Never met one single solitary straight person in my life who didn't make their heterosexuality clear on a regular basis. And in the case of straight men, all but invariably in a way that wasn't obnoxious and offensive to women and/or gays.

Because many members of society doesn't accept gay people.

All members of society accepts straight people, so doing what you say wouldn't make the news.

Most people don't give a damn about other peoples sexuality it's the shoving it down other people's throat by that I mean tellin me everyone their gay. Just get on with your lives.

Excuse the pun btw.

The fact that you refuse to recognize or acknowledge that you act in an extremely hateful manner to people who've done you no harm does absolutely nothing to change the fact that you do hateful things and are motivated by hateful beliefs.

To religious people everyone ELSE is a hater and they are always the poor victims, just trying to spread God's love. Even if that "love" is really just hate and judgment. But they're incapable of understanding that because, let's face it, if you believe in Santa Claus for adults, you probably don't do too well with rational thinking.

Dunno 'bout the poster you are questioning. But for me it was when I decided what I liked sexually.

Did you *decide* it, or did you *discover* it?

----------

(My bold)

It's probably because you think being gay is a 'lifestyle', rather than an inherent trait.[/QUOTE

being gay is an inherent trait?

By that, then every child who is raised by gay parents will be 'inherently' gay??

No. That would be exactly the *opposite* of an inherent trait.
