This "rememberence" of the day Steve died is so wrong. If they wanted to pay proper tribute, celebrate his birthday. He should be remembered for how he lived, not how he died.

The next person who thinks of excusing Cook's dismantling of a once proud company on the grounds that "Steve was unique" needs to keep such thoughts to themselves. When you voluntarily take over the reigns of a company like Apple, you have an obligation to continue its tradition of excellence. Appeasing Carl Ichan and watch band enthusiasts alone doesn't cut it. The Apple looks polished on the outside for now, but it's rotting at the core.

There are others who are capable of following in Steve's footsteps. Apple would honor him best by replacing Cook with such an individual.

I like to think that he would be on the front lines of the "battlefield" and not hanging back, strategizing in his tent.

And not using twitter to drag the world's #1 identified brand into social and political hotbeds.

Steve was great, but he was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime kind of guy.

The man was brilliant.

I know a lot of people criticize what Apple is doing now, but a lot of Steve's beliefs are still around today. I see this video and immediately think of the removal of the headphone jack-

Exactly.

AND think of Disney. The company went thru good and bad times after Walt's death, and ultimately morphed into something bigger and, arguably, better that nobody would have remotely envisioned 5 years after that loss.

Apple is in for the very long haul, it will serve people way after our lifetime.

R.I.P. Steve.

There were times when I find myself wondering what would Apple be like in 2016 if he was still at the helm.

I often wonder about products. Like what would Steve have done with Apple Watch or iPhone 5, 6 and 7.

But I also wonder about what was the next Pixar Steve would work on.

As someone in their 40's, and following Apple and Steve Jobs since 1984, I really wish he was still with us.

Show some respect, Desmond.

Some might see the irony in the same word being used to describe removal of headphone jack and Steve..... just saying. Expect many "courage" jokes on this tread....maybe Tim could have used a better word, I don't see it as disrespectful to Steve, but a dig at Tim.

You're right. We should also do away with President's Day, Memorial Day, MLK Day and any mention of people who have changed the world, but have died. No sense in paying homage to people who are no longer alive.
Come on now. If you read what I was responding to, it should be clear that my point was about people saying - "if Steve was here this would never have happened." To use your example, no one says If so and so were still president or if MLK were still alive things would be different. I have no issue paying homage to someone you feel is great, but trying to resurrect them is a totally different issue.

I still wonder that. Every day. Just can't help it with the current state of Apple (although still healthy), which could be way better than it currently is.

Conference Room "Frontier Land" on Apple Campus

Phil: Why is this thing always beachballing
Eddy: (singing)...bup bup bup beeeeeaaaaccccchhhhhballllling!
Tim Walks In
Tim: Did you seem my tweet about Steve?
Phil: Ahhhhhh! That's it!
Phil throws MacBook Pro at conference room window. Shatters it. Mac goes out the window.
Phil: Damn it, Tim. Really? 473 days?? FOUR HUNDRED SEVENTY THREE ******* DAYS????
Eddy: Phil...
Phil: No. You suck, Tim! S U C K. Suck. You Suck. Steve would never have let this place turn into.....THIS!
Phil walks out.
Eddy: Ha! That happened. Not a lot of fans here, Tim. Bet Phil is writing a rant for MacRumors as we speak.
Dre walks in.
Dre: Yo dawgs....free MacBook Pro. Just needs some Windex and its all good. My boy can use this. He's all like "damn, when you gonna snag me one of dem 473 day old laptops?" (looks up with a smiling grin)
Eddy: (laughing hysterically) Oooooohhhhhh! BURNED, TIM. He wasn't even in the room!!!! Nice!
Dre and Eddy fist bump.

I wonder what he would make of the way Apple is run today and how Apple constantly fails to innovate year after year?
Totally disagree with your narrow vision, Apple has innovated more than you can tell on the hardware and software if you cannot see that after 5 years without Steve Jobs and conference after conference for developers and products then there is nothing else I can do.

that wasn't tim.
if you knew about Steve Jobs and Apple you would know that courage is a word user by Steve Jobs there is a specifice interview in which Steve Jobs used courage to move forward and do what others wont.

RIP Steve....oh how I loved the keynote when towards the end he revealed he was using an Intel chip to announce the transition from IBM. He had so much passion for revealing each product ....the original iMac, the G3 to G5 days ...and great ads ... and of course ...the 'one more thing' .... he kept us on the edge of our seats until the end .... a one off.
Alas...nowadays the keynotes have become a fixed script with no real surprises .... Steve was 3D ... the rest are 2D...flat and nothing really exciting and somewhat stale...like watching paint dry on the walls.

I will give credit to Tim for remembering Steve .... but damn it....he needs to loosen up a bit in his presentations and try some variations in his approach.

I miss his keynotes :(

The iPhone 4 one is the stuff of legend.

That was my favourite one too. Just watching it made me wow at everything he announced, the way he announced it and just made me want it. My first iPhone and my favourite iPhone experience ever which made me a huge Apple fan. Especially seeing that Retina display for the first time, which people forget that there was never a display that high in resolution until the 4.

Call me cynical, but in business there are no friends.
in your way of thinkinking there are no friends but you cannot tell something you were not part of and since you were not part of the close circle of Steve Jobs friends then is unlikely that you will ever know.

If you want to play "you don't know what they're thinking"...

Let it go folks. If Steve were alive, he would probably have done things different. Sure.... But he's dead, and we need to accept that.
You're not wrong. But I can honestly almost guarantee this wouldn't be a topic if it wasn't also a headline...

I didn't view this is disrespectful. It's from a direct quote cook said about Steve (and in the body of the article we are commenting on). A little peculiar the courage seems to be a new favorite of his. In any case this is less a comment about Steve and more about Tim.

Miss Steve.

He light a fire under your ass if you didn't get the job done. Feel like Apple is going to get complacent.

Which is why iPhone 7 is a little underwhelming and a laggy mess. It's no coincidence iOS has dropped in quality year by year since Forstall and Jobs were gone. Even the hardware isn't as great anymore, which I believe would be "if Steve Jobs was still alive".

A huge tip-o-my-hat to Steve Jobs. There will never be another like him.

I remember Jobs and Wozniak demonstrating their first system at the Homebrew Computer Club in Palo Alto at SLAC many years ago when there were monthly meet-ups.

With that said, it's a real shame and very sad many here are not able to take this moment and simply offer and show respect for Jobs and leave it at that
