And the US is the biggest threat to other countries too. Facebook is literally more popular than tiktok by a wide margin and is similarly damaging to not just children but entire political systems. US actually does have military superiority over the entire world as well.

Why is China the bad guy when the US isn't?
Ugh, don’t even get me started on the dangers of social media… true, FB is bigger but growth has flatlined and it’s only a matter of time before it declines, especially since kids aren’t using it. Tik Tok is the fastest growing social media platform and unlike FB, it’s controlled by the Chinese gov’t… though not sure which is worse… Zuck or Xi Ping deciding what we watch and read haha.

America made mistakes but for the most part, it is a threat to certain people in power, not the people of those countries. In fact, in many countries where America successfully intervened, the people benefited greatly… S. Korea, Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan (until we pulled out), Japan (our enemy at the time), pretty much all of Europe, etc.

China is a threat to everyone because they don’t have the constitution and bill of rights to limit governmental powers and give its citizens basic freedoms that Americans take for granted. China oppresses its own people and continues to lock people up simply for speaking out against the government. Just look what happened to Hong Kong.

If you’re surprised by this, you haven’t been paying attention. Cook has all but sold Apple to the Chinese Communist Party. Sadly, their is no going back for Apple now.
Bye-bye Halo effect.

Oh the drama. No modern day Apple without the supply chain from China.

And what is wrong with any of that? China - biggest population, shouldn't it have biggest economy, It did for thousands of years? Military superiority, maybe we should work to disband all militaries, the US spends way too much, and uses it's military to bully. Is there any doubt that other nations would seek to counter that?
In the absence of power, someone or some group will fill that vacuum. The question is, do you want a country like the US with the constitution and bill of rights that protects basic human freedoms, or China, with an emperor at the helm with a history of abusing his power and oppressing his own people, jailing anyone who dares to speak out against the govt?

I have no problem with another country overtaking the US’s dominance, but I would want that country to be like the US where basic human rights are protected and governmental power is limited… like how Biden’s vaccine mandate (whether you agree with it or not) was rejected by the courts because of gov’t overreach.

it's lamentable the dependency on china. It's lamentable we have to be political correct when talking about that country and not allowed to say what we think

Popcorn moment. I can't put the Michael Jackson popcorn graphic up, last time it was removed.

Looking forward to seeing how this pans out for Tim, for Apple and how the people feel about this.

Apple is now one of the biggest tech companies in the world. I am not sure why you think Apple or Tim Cook will face any sort of backlash or repercussions whatsoever.

Second, the US doesn’t speak for the entire world. I live in Asia and really couldn’t care less whether Apple chooses to invest China or US.

The only outcome I can think in light of all this is that - wow, I think Tim Cook deserves a bigger pay check! Personally negotiating with governments of entire nations?!?

Will the Apple Board force him out over this ?

If he wasn't before, he is clearly going to be in Hot Water now !
Actually, they would probably approve as this is a concession for Apple to be exempted from certain regulations and continue doing business in China. China’s large market are too tempting for anyone to ignore.

So, how many of you guys still trust Apple on their mass scanning system thing? How many of you still think that once that system is in place, that Apple won’t be easily influenced by certain countries to do specific things? Remember the many people here defended Apple?

Just like the rest of them, Tim Cook has been bought with corrupt CCP $$$. What a disgrace. I really wish Tim Cook wasn't in charge of Apple. He's making all the wrong decisions. He's doing more good for Communist China than America. What a sad world we live in. It's already bad enough that China has infiltrated the US through and stolen everything from us in order to benefit themselves. Yet this sellout Tim Cook signs secret deals with the CCP. I don't want anything to do with a country that has a long history of human rights violation and a bunch of other negative things that comes with it. What a damn treasonous traitor. I've never liked the guy. I wish Steve Jobs was still running things.

On the contrary, from Apple perspective as a publicly traded company, Cook’s decisions are perfectly align with the company’s goal as long as it increases shareholders’ value. Remember the goal of a publicly traded company.

Ha - like they're any better.

The Build Beijing Back Better Task Force might scold him publicly for this, but in private, they are in deep admiration for his 'courage'.

He did it secretly because he's modest, that's all. Duh!
What has Apple done that wasn’t secret?

I have lost all trust in big tech, as I did with multinationals, government, banks, mainstream media, hollywood, sports, music and entertainment industry, etc. Google, Apple, Facebook are the same side of the coin. The public facade here is that they appear to be in competition of each other, but in reality they're all controlled by the same people that controls everything else in this world. There is only one CEO running the show here.

The Chinese know how to rein in these mega corporations. The US government should do the exact same thing. Of course, it will never happen. Because, you know, "capitalism."

I see some complaining here about Chinese human rights record. But its not like the USA has any great track record on human rights. Just ask the people of Afghanistan and Iraq. So, while China does deserve criticism, you have to hate the game not the player. And the Chinese are just playing the game a lot better than the West right now.
Yeah, it’s funny people (Americans) criticizing China, yet they themselves cannot say “let’s go b——-n” because someone’s feeling is hurt. Pathetic. US is worst these days since there’s zero consistency and complete hypocrisy from all those woke movements.

At least China has been consistent with what they want.

Politics is a tool used by the elites to divide us. And as I've always witnessed, a forum or chat site that has a "POLITICS" section, you can see people attacking each other, etc. They know this topic can be extremely controversial and sensitive and they are using it to promote hate, division and it has been working. People falling into this trap. How long does it take for someone to finally realize that this is all pretty much bs. And a lot of you are actually falling for it. You really think politicians care about protecting and serving us? We are the people that actually put them there in office or thats what the mainstream media wants you to think. Nothing ever gets done in "politics", both sides argue over the same problems and they just run around in circles "acting" as though they care and will do something. They are paid actors in front of the cam. All sides of politics whether its left vs right, blue vs red, repub vs dem are on the same side. But of course the media doesn't want you to know that. The world would be so much better without politics.

TC was Steves right hand and steers that company in the exact same direction as always. Your sudden outrage is the real headscratcher.

On one hand I want Apple to continue its push as a global manufacturer, but on the other, it just feels so dirty when they work with the more evil regimes (we're all bad, some are just worse than others lol). I guess they have to spread the influence (cash) around if they want to continue growing.

Are there other places that can manufacture 160,000 to 200,000 iPhones per day, and ramp that number up and down on a moment's notice, as required by Apple's projections?

This is craziness. I don’t think Apple should be investing so heavily in the Chinese economy given their track record on human rights and the environment.
When it comes to business, Apple (and apparently most other big businesses globally) will look the other way. So long as there is profit and a business case, however short term the gains are, they will look the other way. China is hostile, and has no benign intentions.

told us China wants medical records on all US citizens.

i would not be surprised if ancestry.com is China-based.

Actually if you really look America's intervention is filled with disasters. The US tried to save all of Korea and N. Korea has paid the price for how that turned out. Iran was another disaster, Saddam Hussein was the US' big stick against Iran and only got taken out when they couldn't control him anymore. Afghanistan was basically Vietnam 2 electric boogaloo with France played by the USSR/Russia.

Actually China does have a constitution and bill of rights:

"Article 37: Freedom of the person of citizens of the People’s Republic of China is inviolable.

No citizen may be arrested except with the approval or by decision of a people’s procuratorate or by decision of a people’s court, and arrests must be made by a public security organ.

Unlawful detention or deprivation or restriction of citizens’ freedom of the person by other means is prohibited, and unlawful search of the person of citizens is prohibited."

There are even checks and balances if you look through the thing long enough. It is all window dressing but it is there.
