Oh, America is still making its fair share of mistakes.America's made mistakes. Native American treatment, slavery, Japanese camps... but I don't read about those event happening still (well, reservations are still a thing but it's a deeper issue than CCP's "forced camps"). Because America has a system where the people change it. That cant happen in China. China CCP is "god" there.
Do you really want to compare conditions in America to China? You sure that is the direction you want to go? America has its problems for sure, but at least in America you can openly protest those issues that you mentioned to enact change, see what happens to protestors in China. How many black people are unjustly in prison in america? How many are shot in the streets by cops? How many civilians do americans kill overseas every year? How many immigrants are working the fields for unfair pay? How many homeless people are there compared to empty homes owned by banks? How many veterans kill themselves or go hungry every year? How many opioid deaths? How many covid deaths?
You really don't see an issue with someone preaching privacy and human rights on one hand and signing a sweetheart deal with one of the biggest violators of privacy & human rights with the other?I see no issue as long as he's not violating US laws.
So much outrage...Wondering how much is real and how much is faux?
Will anyone here be voting with their wallets and purchase phones/tablets/computers from Apple competitors? Yeah, that's what I thought.

I dont think I mentioned America not making any mistakes. But we're not talking about "Should we open the doors to an encampment and let those being held there for their religious beliefs out" level. Were at policy level mistakes.Oh, America is still making its fair share of mistakes.
And K Street would be uninhabited.Business is business. Nothing wrong with making business deals.
If lobbying was a crime, most if not all politicians would be in jail already.
You got that backwards. You have to critique first to gather enough political momentum to make it a crime. When it becomes a crime, then we can criticize.
In the Court of Public Opinion, at least here in the Sates, I think Tim Cook may (now) be in BIG trouble !
"Unjustly prisoned" is a pretty subjective term. How many black people are unjustly in prison in america? How many are shot in the streets by cops? How many civilians do americans kill overseas every year? How many immigrants are working the fields for unfair pay? How many homeless people are there compared to empty homes owned by banks? This is craziness. I don’t think Apple should be investing so heavily in the Chinese economy given their track record on human rights and the environment.
My issue isn't with the definition of a publically traded company and its duties to make money for shareholders. I think most have issues with Apple posturing as if they are above board with morals and justice in how they operate their press/marketing/position. They run around praising LGBTQ rights while ignoring the atrocities occurring in the Middle east as it relates to gay rights. They praise their own environmental record while working with manufacturing in countries that have zero standards. They pat themselves on the back about social justice and human rights causes while behind the scenes they promote governments who destroy and trample on human rights and social justice.Apple is a corporation. A corporation's job is to make money for shareholders.
So let's just finally dispense with the nonsense that Apple is somehow a socially responsible company.
Delete this app, allow that app for political reasons. Support that cause or this cause for whatever reason you state as a company. But don't lecture anyone else about social responsibility on ANY TOPIC whatsoever when you're in bed with what is currently one of the most repressive regimes in the world, and getting worse by the day.
Personally, I don't care what cause Apple and Cook support or don't support. I don't buy their products because I have an affinity to the same causes they support. I don't really care if the product is recyclable, socially responsible, vegan certified, oppression free, or whatever. I buy the product because it's GOOD. That's it.
And that's fine for me. It may not be for others, and I get that too. I'm a pretty simple person living a sort of bullcrap life at a stupid little job in a dumpy state on the Easter seaboard of the US. I'm not changing the world, or making a dent in any of this stuff. Which is pretty obvious, since ol' Timmy is gonna support China's actions with or without my money.
But don't feed me the social responsibility line on one side, and be such a turd on the other. Don't try and convince me I'm a turd, when you're more of one. Just make good stuff. Leave the politics and causes out of it.
I feel the same way about actors and musicians. I enjoy a lot of artists who I totally disagree with on a multitude of issues, but I really don't care. I'm not here for your cause, I'm here for the entertainment.
