As for diversity, Apple "has a lot of different people from a lot of different places" and is "accepting of people everywhere" which has led Cook to believe that the company has something unique to offer in conversations about diversity, which is also tied to the company's views on human rights and one of the reasons why Cook spoke out on recent U.S. immigration policy that saw children separated from their parents, which he called "inhumane." "Ultimately, that is what human rights are, treating people with dignity and respect," he told Lashinsky.

While Apple is quick to speak out on policies surrounding immigration, diversity, human rights, and similar topics, Cook clarified that Apple does not "get into politics."

Baloney! They are deeply involved in politics.

This recent 'immigration' and 'child separation' thing, as disheartening as it is, is a total political football. And 'diversity' is quite the buzz word, which basically means we'll accept you if you check all these particular boxes, and keep quiet if your views fall outside of them. They have every right to do this, but at some point, the hypocrisy gets a bit too deep to stand.

They absolutely have the right to donate, support and speak out for any cause that suits them. AS PRIVATE CITIZENS.

IMO, one underlying issue we have in the US is that people with money - corporate exec's, actors, athletes, etc. - have a platform to share their opinions and beliefs that is beyond the common person, and this is a great example of that.

I guess I wouldn't expect them not to do so. My problem is with the language being used and level of hypocrisy.

And that those of certain races/ethnicities/religions/genders should have rights superior to those of other races/ethnicities/religions/genders.

I think the real question is.... who is it that is actually doing this? Most of the 'diversity' politics going on in the USA/West right now is exactly what you describe above, just in the form of doublespeak.

These CEO's think the USA can keep bringing in a million LEGAL immigrants a year, and a million ILLEGAL immigrants a year, while also bringing in hundred of thousands of "REFUGEES" a year, most of which take huge amounts of government assistance and are mostly low wage workers, while still selling their 1000 dollar hardware...

These CEO's absolutely don't care about the country, once this country is ruined, they will just go to another country and sell their product. But rude awakening CHINA WILL NOT SELL NON-CHINESE PRODUCT! So if that's their master plan, good luck.

I'm not saying this in a sarcastic manner, but do you really think Tim Cook lives in a "diverse" neighborhood?

silicon valley is very diverse. For example, places like Cupertino, Sunnyvale, etc. are less than 50% white. These rest are a diverse group of people including various Asians.

No but you definitely know better don't you. What do these ultra successful people know about running an organisation. Nothing I bed

It's certainly wearing on me these interviews. So many now about the same thing. It's fine, what he's standing for is fine, nothing against the message, I just want the CEO of a tech company to talk a little bit more about technology.

He’s answering the questions asked of him. Why don’t you ask to interview him about tech? Of course he won’t reveal much because Apple never has, even under the old leadership. In fact, Steve didn’t say much outside of keynotes about tech at all aside from the rare email hint.

Tim’s political views don’t really hold much weight with me.

And that statement carries even less weight with everyone else here.

The line is often nonexistent when the average person sees the leader of a company donate to a candidate. They automatically assume the company’s position is that of the CEO’s.

Then they are stupid and that’s on them. It’s not anyone’s job to accommodate their lack of critical thinking any more than it’s everyone’s duty to stop consuming scary movies because some moron might think they are real life.

That makes him a strong CEO? Seriously? What about business acumen? Does that not matter anymore? Taking a stance on social issues is more important than properly running your business? He really needs to mind the store. Cook credibility is dwindling.

Yeah because Apple is in REAL fiscal trouble and the business is on the edge of the abyss...

No one is saying they can't donate as private citizens. The point being made is that when those private citizens are the top decision makers at a company, saying the company doesn't donate is only technically correct.

And just because an individual is a "decision maker" at a company doesn't make it wrong for her to donate to whatever cause she sees fit to donate to.

I align with Cook on most social issues. But any progressive stance on immigration by an American corporate leader is 100% in the interest of intellectual advantage from H1B labor. Cook may care personally about the low wage immigrant, but it’s hardly an afterthought when it comes to Apple endorsement.

At least Cook isn’t as blatantly disingenuous like Mark Zuckerberg’s social justice front, disguising a drive for H1B labor for keeping families together.

Check out the website^^. It’s comical.

So do employees from every other company in the country. So what? That doesn't mean the company itself is in the middle of it.

He's playing the middle ground, which is exactly what needs to happen in his role.

As someone who's been on these boards since 2014, certainly you know the answer to that because Apple has given you a timeframe multiple times now, and it's not this month. It's been discussed in forums and articles on this very site. Do you want an unfinished product? Or one that's rushed to market? Or do you want them to move the schedule forward even though you've been informed for the last year that it's targeted for 2019?

What about the 6+ year old Mac mini?

What's the problem now? Why are they not updating macs?

Other computer manufactures update regularly 1-2times per year. Apple used to but now they don't, it's a joke.

Cook clarified that Apple does not "get into politics”
This “CEO” is certainly the worst that could have happened to Apple. The proof his only interest is politics is his manipulation of the words meaning, trying to convince us there’s a difference between “policy” and “politics”. With this, he’s adding insult to injury. His comments are so manipulating that I don’t know if it’s worse to have him as Apple CEO or as a politician. Maybe it’s better he stays as Apple CEO... I prefer to lose Apple rather than more important things in the world. The sad thing is that when he ruins Apple, he will jump into a political career anyway. Sigh, evil has to exist (*).

(*) Just to clarify, I’m calling evil his behavior, not him. He can change, and I really wish and pray he does.

A lot of people bash Cook for now thing or another and believe he needs to be replaced. I doubt if few realized that Steve Jobs took a long hard look at his executive talent and decided that Tim Cook was the man to replace him. Steve even was able to have a trial run for 6 months while he was recovering from his (very brutal) surgery. Looking at the numbers it appears to me that Cook is doing a good job. I would have preferred that he had maintained a higher level of debt free cash because I believe that a recession is heading our way - and with Trump in office it might bee a depression. I want Apple too havre continually growing cash reserves to not only survive a serious down turn, but also to have funds to buy important talent and companies.

What exactly are you mad at here? That immigrants are competing for jobs that a lot of Americans aren’t winning competitively in tech? That the immigrants aren’t white? Or are you upset that Americans chose long ago that cheaper items manufactured abroad were good enough for their money? Or are you upset that, frankly, the price premium on American made items often don’t justify the disparity in pricing on commodity items?

After all, most of the people complaining about things today were more than fine buying their clothes for the past 20 years when there was no “Made in the USA” label in sight.

Updating products is so 2011...
It’s all about social issues now and making sure the people and the policies satisfy everyone. Oh, and still holding keynotes that reuse the same phrases over and over and building hype over minimally enhanced products that are available for only $999 and $1299 (queue dramatic keynote slide, emphasizing price point).

Here you are again putting CEO in quotes. Again, he’s the CEO and you’re not and never will be. Again, since you hate him so much, just buy another brand. He’s doing a fine job by the employees and shareholders, and you’re clearly not the target market since you ridiculously think the world is “losing Apple” despite the company’s obvious health. As for calling him evil, yeah we got that from you when you complained about him being at Pride. Shoo.
