What about the 6+ year old Mac mini?

What's the problem now? Why are they not updating macs?

Other computer manufactures update regularly 1-2times per year. Apple used to but now they don't, it's a joke.

Apple NEVER updated their machines twice a year. Rarely even annually. The Mac Mini is not a big seller and never was compared to the rest of the line. Same with time capsule, cinema displays, and frankly the entire airport line. Apple is not a computer company and hasn’t been for a long time. They are a technology, consumer goods and services company. It’s not going back, the industry itself is not going back. However, you seem hellbent on dragging Apple toward those products when virtually all other manufacturers of PCs as a critical component are struggling to survive.

Move on. Those days are long gone and the world has moved to cloud services served by largely agnostic terminals. But hey keep on fighting, and then complain later when your workflow is no longer current and you are displaced as a result.

"Perhaps, but IMO he has an obligation to distinguish between his personal beliefs/opinions and how he represents others."

I suppose you're right. I imagine there are people in the world who not only have no interest in issues relating to privacy or equal rights (just two examples), but instead believe that private communications must be accessible to government and corporate eavesdropping. And that those of certain races/ethnicities/religions/genders should have rights superior to those of other races/ethnicities/religions/genders.

That said, I don't fall in either of the above two categories, so I applaud Mr. Cook for taking a stand. It's one of the many reasons I reward Apple with my dollars when shopping for phones and computers. It's OK if others feel differently and choose to reward a different company with their currency.

Sounds like we're in agreement! Let me clarify one point though. My observation about TC (or any leader) speaking on behalf of an organizations employees and customers was related to social/political issues... not product/service issues. You are spot on that TC *should* be addressing privacy and I am delighted that he does.

Here you are again putting CEO in quotes
I call him “CEO” because he wears the “CEO” label without putting it into practice.
As for calling him evil
I didn’t. I said “evil has to exist”. I consider all what he is doing is evil, but that’s different from saying he is evil. He can change. Everybody can.

He’s the CEO and runs Apple. He has the final call on all things including acquisitions and company direction and serves with the blessing of the board. That’s putting a lot more into practice than you are.

As for what he’s doing being evil, I’m sure there is some mega church that would love your insights on how to silence the big bad gay CEO that you seem strangely hostile to. You failed to address the core question though: if you hate what he does so much and you are so displeased with Apple, why are you here constantly talking about how unhappy you are? Why don’t you just buy something else instead of crusading against this one man?

It’s not about the money... it’s about delivering new, updated and better products.

Have a look at the current Mac lineup and tell me what you see.

Mac isn’t a focus of the company and hasn’t been for a long time, and all your nostalgia won’t pay employees’ mortgages.

Apple has spoken out on immigration specifically because Apple employs many immigrants. "We've got over 300 folks here on DACA," Cook said. "I want to stand up for them." Apple also has several thousand people that are on H1B visas who may be in "the deep green card back log," which Cook says gives Apple a unique perspective to share on the topic. "There are real people behind this that have real feelings," he explained.

As for diversity, Apple "has a lot of different people from a lot of different places" and is "accepting of people everywhere" which has led Cook to believe that the company has something unique to offer in conversations about diversity, which is also tied to the company's views on human rights and one of the reasons why Cook spoke out on recent U.S. immigration policy that saw children separated from their parents, which he called "inhumane." "Ultimately, that is what human rights are, treating people with dignity and respect," he told Lashinsky.

Those DACA folks and H1B folks would have a better chance of staying if illegal immigrants weren’t cutting the line, but for Tim to state that truth would take courage. Question for you Tim: will you continue to employ them if they get deported? You know you still could, right? Set up satellite offices with that ~$260 Billion in Cash you have.

How many Republicans or Trump supporters work at Apple? How are they treated by management and others? Diversity isn’t just race, ethnicity or nationality... but it would take actual courage to say that, right Tim?

Do you mean there’s no difference between Macs and the rest of computers? This really explains why you don’t worry about the harm he’s doing to Apple. I love the Mac. There’re substitutes for it, but only partial substitutes. An that’s the reason why I’m so concerned about this “CEO”.

The market moved away from your niche priorities and Apple is following the enormous mountain of money that pays for everything. This is basic, BASIC business. Evolve or die, as they say.

More politics crap from Tim. Great. You make computers idiot.

We need a new CEO.

They have made way more than computers for a long time, and even an idiot would know that. As for needing a new CEO, it’s not happening, so go buy Acer.

What a sad state we’re in.

This has been the nature of commerce since the concept of trade itself.

No but you definitely know better don't you. What do these ultra successful people know about running an organisation. Nothing I bed
Tim is that you?
What exactly are you mad at here? That immigrants are competing for jobs that a lot of Americans aren’t winning competitively in tech? That the immigrants aren’t white? Or are you upset that Americans chose long ago that cheaper items manufactured abroad were good enough for their money? Or are you upset that, frankly, the price premium on American made items often don’t justify the disparity in pricing on commodity items?

After all, most of the people complaining about things today were more than fine buying their clothes for the past 20 years when there was no “Made in the USA” label in sight.
I'm refereeing to how Tim Cook (and most CEO's) just care about paying the cheapest wage possible to their employees. I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but they DO NOT care about immigrants. In their personal life they choose to live as far away from them as possible, in their gated communities, with armed security.

I just don't understand how these people (CEO's, Celebs, Politicians) can live in all white neighbors, free of immigrants, Muslims, Spanish speakers, etc, and send their kids to all white private schools. And their supporters are okay with it? Or at least see the hypocrisy.

I'm not saying this in a sarcastic manner, but do you really think Tim Cook lives in a "diverse" neighborhood?

Maybe ‘divisive’ might be a better description, TY :p ..... if he lives in close proximity to other CEO’s ..... whose policies to drive down manufacturing costs split communities, force mass migration and open migrants up to exploitation ...... meanwhile their invasion of other countries creates community division and unrest, religious disharmony, increased crime and terrorism behaviour and burdens on host country resources, health, housing and benefit handouts.

The Tim Cooks of this world are part of the ‘problem’ .... not the ‘solution’.

They don’t respect countries, borders and local laws (ask the Californian Councillors how happy they are with Apple’s bullying culture) ..... and as for paying fair tax in relation to exploitative profits made ....go whistle weak governments! .....Struggling countries in debt needing much needed tax revenue to keep their infrastructures running can’t afford Tim Cook’s policy to financially break them through the courts to get it!

Tim Cook’s Legacy: Hypocrisy, hot air, tech regression, software hang-ups and Litigation.

My advice, to avoid creeping nausea, avoid the product of these CEO’s.

Apple makes more than the Mac and the Mac makes up only a fraction of their revenue. Why do they need to get rid of him? To tank the company and pretend like people aren't moving toward cloud services? And Scott Forstall, who everyone else in senior management at Apple couldn't stand (incl. Craig and Jony)? Your advice sounds like it's right out of the Sculley playbook.

You do realize ...

without the Mac ... WatchOS, TVOS, HomePodOS, and others don't exist nor would any of the Apps created for them to exist. Throw in the Mac ... you throw in sales revenue from coders and then the question of ... why should I code for Watch/iPhone/TV etc when the SDK is open source and Apple no longer makes/sells computers. Heck what are they designing their other hardware for on anyway? Why buy Apple if their using other companies kit and software to do the designing ... Mac is what makes Apple unique and relevant. Apple seems to be forgetting this and only giving the iMac love.

Strong CEO there. I applaud him for speaking up on these issues.

Don't confuse activism and CEO performance. He might be promoting good causes, but the products under him suck. Everyone always says, but share price is up!.

All I can say is I'm not buying any new macs right now. i am eyeing up (god I hate to say this) windows again. I swore off them long, but Tim's products are so crappy, Apple needs to be punished.

So I don't consider him a good CEO for crusading on personal causes. I don't care about his sexuality, I just want Apple to step up it's game.

We miss you steve!

As much as I disagree that companies should be political as it opens up the possibility of bribes and lobbying for many terrible things. You need to have someone to counter the religious nuttjobs.

My fear is always that if you allow powerful companies to push adgendas you don’t get the values of all THE PEOPLE as Timmy Boy claims, you get the agenda of the CEO. Its not democratic or fair and Tim knows he’s being a hypocrite claiming some higher moral ground.

People couldn’t stand Jobs, either. Employees like Cook because he’s a ***** with no drive. It’s a 365 day liesure fest at Apple now. Hooray!

Trouble is the brainwashed minions under Apple’s marketing hype .... if they spent half of what they do on Apple ..... they would get a device that had arguably .... increased speed, much more memory, better software performance, inceased App choice, better connectivity etc etc.
Just bought a new Samsung J7 Pro smartphone+ put 256Gb card in it ..... can I get mobile spec like that from Apple for <£300? No way near.
No wonder Apple are sueing Samsung ..... they can’t compete with that!

Rule No.1 for aggressive bullying American Companies ..... if you can’t compete on a level playing field .... pull down, dent profits or try and bankrupt or takeover the opposition by any means possible.

Tim Cook .... your halo is choking you! :D:confused:

Tim Cook... always talks about everything except the Mac. They need to get rid of him and he can go into politics where he belongs. Time to bring back a product visionary like Jobs to run Apple. Scott Forstall is my pick.

Seems like Tim Cook is all that’s talked about recently (last week) in terms of Apple news. Completely agree, get back to the Mac, or go after the politics you seem to have a passion for, but the two don’t mix. Thanks Tim

PS. Agree on Forstall

Screen time is truly going to be revolutionary I think. I had no idea I was spending on average 3 hours(!) a day on imgur - 5 minutes here and there. Ive been working down the time limits and now have myself limited to 15 minutes a day and honestly? I hardly even feel like checking anymore. It’s fantastic! Now if I can just stop checking my iPod every 5 minutes...

“Apple doesn't give one dollar to political campaigns.”

But Apple executives give lots of money to political parties/candidates.

https://www.opensecrets.org/donor-l...Apple+inc&name=&order=desc&sort=A&state=&zip=

Maybe elections shouldn’t be the multi-billion shows they are now. Maybe political parties shouldn’t be allowed to get bribes, I mean “donations”, from companies.

So he is donating for an open border nation?

No, because none of the two political parties are supporting an open border nation. Get your facts straight.

Of course Apple updated their Mac annually. Get your facts straight. For instance, there are Early, Mid and Late 2009 iMacs. Apple used to be a computer company so they updated their specs as fast as they could back in the day. I’m not saying there’s no commercial logic they’re not doing that anymore (people don’t replace as frequently nowadays) but their upgrade cycle has slowed down too much. Especially when they have a policy not to drop prices.

Not every job can be relocated that easily. There’s a reason teams sit together. Deporting DACA people but asking their employers to come up with millions to fix it, would be despicable.

No person in their right mind should defend deporting DACA people. The only reason one does is because their political party and Trump are defending it (which they obviously do for strategic reasons to push their agendas). The solution: more political parties. Stop this game of two parties dividing the country and fix the broken system. How hard can it be in such a big country to successfully launch a new party? Incomprehensible.

I don’t know how many Trump supporters work at Apple. Based on the election results I would say roughly 50%. Could be less because progressive, higher educated people working in high-tech have a tendency to vote more to the left. But there’s no indication whatsoever trump supporters are discriminated against at Apple. Don’t invent facts so you can play the victim.

Let's talk about apps like https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/deen-e-islam/id1079308257?mt=8 That reads (under English > Articles > Family Masail):
  • "No wife can become lovable unless she fulfills the rights of her husband and keeps him pleased." (article: Rights and Obligations of Spouses under Shari'ah)
  • "In case a woman is actually disobedient to her husband ... the husband should try to make his disobedient wife understand her fault ... if this too does not work then he can beat her lightly." (article: Does Islamic Sharia permit the husband to beat his wife?)
  • "The modern age is an age of sexual liberation and sexual equality as preached in the West. Many a misguided Muslims have joined this ill-directed movement. So far as human equality is concerned men and women both are equal before Allah, but so far as the mundane life and management of households is concerned here as well as in all other human organizations the working principle is the superior-subordinate relationship or the principle of hierarchy." (article: Rights and Obligations of Spouses under Shari'ah)
This was just one random islam app I downloaded and these are rather common teachings, nothing extreem. Yet I was shocked.

Tim, please stop lending your platform for spreading the islamic message of suppression and abuse of women.

@MacRumors please give this subject attention; it's very serious and important.

Good point, but don’t you have an extreme law in your country called Freedom of religion ?
