airpods:

1. you must recharge them
2. they cost $159
3. They look silly on ears
4. you loose one, you have to buy a new set.

If apple wants to be evolutionary as it claims, then it would have included them with iphone 7. Its one more gadget we have to worry about charging and not losing.

Be. More. Responsible.

Are you grown adults kidding me with all of this "I'm gonna lose them!" nonsense?

How can some of you be so irresponsible? If something is important to you then you will MAKE SURE it's always in a safe place.

Unbelievable.

Will AirPods come with the iPhone 8 or will that come with an adapter too?
Lol based on apple history w adapter:
NEITHER

I think that is the issue. People don't want to be on top of more expensive gadgets that can be more easily lost while walking around.

Oh Cooky, straight into sales mode. You make us all very proud.

I'm an admitted fan of wired headphones. Serious question though... Exactly how many things do I need to charge before I lose my mind?

Off the top of my head, my wife and I have:

2 iPhones (charge every day)
2 Apple Watches (every day)
2 Surface Pro 4s (every day)
2 Kindle Voyages (every month)
Portable battery pack I need to charge to top off the phones (weekly)
2 Sonicare toothbrushes (2x a month)
Electric razor (weekly)
Canon 5Dmk iv DSLR (have many batteries)
Canon C100 video camera (have many batteries)
Wireless desktop keyboard/mouse (every 2-6 months)
PS4 controllers (weekly)
Bluetooth speaker (leave it plugged in in the kitchen)

It's getting ridiculous. I'm traveling with large powerstrips. Granted, I'm a photographer and cinematographer, so I travel pretty complicated no matter what, but I really appreciate devices that pull power from other devices, or can make it through a whole trip without recharging.

Also, I'm drowning in a sea of dongles, adaptors, and external computer peripherals.

The reason I've been on the iPhone since the 3G, even though I'm on Windows, is because I like my phone to be the least complicated thing in my bag. Or the SECOND least. The least complicated is my wired pair of headphones that always work, never die, and work with my phone, my Surface, my cameras, and even plug into my PS4 controller for loud gaming at night.

I'm not anti-iPhone 7 really. If I gotta use another adaptor, I gotta use another adaptor. But I also don't think battery powered headphones are "magical" either. Both have their inconveniences.

Oi ya rich bastard, I wish I had your problems. lolz.

Yo, Tims. Wheres did you want me to dump this truckload of Airpodses?

If "Airpods" was singular, it wouldn't be the correct type of noun. These come as a set, meaning there is more than one of them (like a pair of socks), therefore the name needs to reflect this and is plural in nature.

24 hours actually (or 48 with mono): the case recharges them whenever you stop listening for a time.

It only takes 15 minutes in the case to charge the pods for 3 hours of play time.

So even if you only stop listening for short spans here and there, it's probably enough to keep that initial 5 hour charge from draining to zero. And even if it did: you're back up in just a few minutes.

It really looks like they have solved the seeming physical impossibility of tiny wireless earbuds lasting all day in normal use. It also encourages using the tiny case as a habit--to prevent loss. (My Jabra wireless earbuds came with a case, but I never made a habit out of using it.)

its not bad, but still not ideal obviously. I'd be ok with the solution they made. the big thing still comes down to price for me.

as I said, i am really impressed with the airpods. not the prettiest earphones, but they're practical, and erally don't look that different than their older earphones.

Yeah that's very idiotic to me. I rarely lose anything. No matter how small. SIM Ejectors, Chapstick, rings... And no matter how inexpensive or costly.

Why do you walk around w sim ejectors? besides that I'm glad you have never lost anything; good for you.

There is no sense in being negative about a product you have absolutely no evidence to back your bash on.

It's not the Airphones themselves that Tim is promoting.

It's the wireless experience & Apple ecosystem that is important.

The cultural & behavior shift is more important.

Clever Tim.

Such a BS answer. They will fall out while you run for whatever reason they will fall out at least ONE time. Probably get damaged and break when it hits the ground. Also what if you misplace one? You need a whole new set? Until they come out were not going to know how bad they are. For $170 you can buy completely better quality bluetooth earbuds with a strap that goes around your neck. Air pods are not ment for working out.

It doesn't have to be security risk to be removed. Being ancient is good enough reason. Technology changes. Adapt or be left behind.
Well, you missed the context and your definition is hyperbole, but if I'm left behind on bluetooth earbud bandwagon, I won't be shedding any tears.

I actually see analog signals going through usb-c.

USB Type-C standard is capable of transmitting analogue audio through the interface’s Sideband Unit (SBU) pins.
Then I stand corrected.

Thank you for the information, and a round of USB-C headphones for everybody.

Yes these earpods will increase your chance of mugging, not that 650++ device you're carrying

Perhaps, or maybe it's just the Airpods they want. Pretty fast and easy to snatch off someone's head vs an iPhone in a bag/pocket.
Besides, Find Your Phone is too good.

Traditional headphones with a jack is in one piece.
Airpods are four separate pieces ( the two ear pods, one carrying case/charger, electrical plug).
Technology does not always simplify life.

Don't worry, Apple won't miss a marketing opportunity, they'll be announcing a safety tether soon.

It will look like a cable, but with the stylishness of a watchband, it will cost twice as much.

If the construction is based on the EarPods that Apple has been bundling since iPhone 5, for sure they will fall out of my ears. For me, they only manage to stay in when sitting down at the desk or doing something steady. When going with them for a walk, they fall out miserably, let alone running or doing something active.

Of course, for others this may not be an issue, but IMO, plastic going directly into ears is prone to falling out. Apple should have used silicone or foam ear tips as many other manufacturers to make them have a more secure fit.

Now another thing with losing them. I think this is going to be a disaster, especially for those in big cities or high foot traffic areas. Imagine one falling out of your ear on a busy street, and before you have a chance to bend down and grab it, someone steps on it. Or you are standing right over the storm drain and one falls out of your ear right into one. Or one falls out of your ear onto subway tracks. If I remember it correctly, Apple will be replacing individual AirPods, but not sure what the price will be. Regardless, there's a good reason why BT headphones from Bose, Jaybird and the likes, even Beats have around the neck cord. In situations like the above, even if one (or both) fall out of your ears, the cord is still holding them and you don't lose them. With AirPods, you won't be that lucky.

Oi ya rich bastard, I wish I had your problems. lolz.

I'm hardly the only person with this many devices. Apple is king at selling people a desktop, MacBook, iPad, iPhone, and Apple Watch. I know a lot of people on here even have multiple sizes of iPad.

I upgrade the things that make me money in my business. But I'm also sticking with the iPhone 6 for year three, had my last Windows desktop for 7 years, had my last $14,000 Toyota for 12 years and only replaced it when totaled (somehow got a $5,000 insurance payout on that too?!)

I know waiters who have cars 3x the price of mine and Apple everything on day 1.

Has the interview aired yet? I can't seem to find it on the internet to watch. I can't watch on TV as I'm in the U.K.

I don't walk around with them. They stay at home, but are very small and never get lost.
So what was your point then if we are talking about stuff you use outside your house? I have pills at home and they are very small and they never get lost as well. Should I expect to carry my home w me so that the earpods don't get lost?

Maybe they should, maybe they shouldn't, but for now it is time for the 3.5 mm to visit the chopping block. Apple chose to remove that port. They weren't the only manufacturer to do so and I'm sure others will follow suit. I am extremely glad they did because cords are nothing but a hassle and not convenient. Convenience is key and wireless does that for me and for many others. I've been using BT headphones for years and love the sound and the feeling of being untethered. I'm listening to a pair right now and the sound quality is on par with any wired headphones or earbuds I've ever owned over the years. If my current BT rigs already perform this well, I can only imagine what Apple's AirPods and the tech they have included in them will do for people everywhere. Hopefully it will also bleed into headphones as well only making them better. Wireless for the win. IMO.

The irony of arguing convenience whilst supporting earbuds you have to keep charged is not lost on me. What you gain from losing that wire, you lose in the convenience of never having to worry about keeping them charged. You're trading one inconvenient aspect (wired) for another (battery life).
