Isn't Tim just proving that you don't need a treaty or accord to fight this? Companies are doing it on their own. The government doesn't need to be involved.
The fact that some companies do it of their own accord is great. But the fact is that pollution is an externality means that a company's "goodness" doesn't work - the events surrounding the industrial revolution is a perfect example of exactly why the government is needed.

Tim Cook should stop this political lobbying of his democrat agenda and start being a better CEO of Apple.
I really hate it when CEO's (like Tim Cook) abuse their position as CEO to lobby various political issues. His job is CEO of Apple, not political lobbyist.

I'm not disappointed because we all know he puts his lobbying before his job as CEO.

A very sad day for our beautiful country and the world. May people will needlessly suffer as a result of this irrational action by president Trump. Many people will suffer.

In many ways I am glad that I am near 80 and will not live to see the troubled times to come, but my grandchildren and my great grandchildren will. Very sad.
Saving the world is not irrational. I would have though someone with your age and wisdom would have known this. The Paris Accord will not make sure the planet will be a better place. It's just a group of world leaders who are flashing around some big numbers and makiing themselves look good, while ignoring all of the science that is at the heart of the issue.

Give your opinion on someone else's freedom to participate politics a rest
We are not angry at what Tim Cook is doing here. We are angry at how Tim Cook is doing it. We are angry that Tim is trying to push his views on every Apple employee. Tim wants every Apple employee not to have their own opinion. The fact Tim sent the letter to all Apple employees is Tim abusing hsi position of CEO to lobby. If Tim lobbyed on his own time as Tim Cook private citizen then fine I'd be ok with it.

If Tim Cook private citizen wants to lobby politically, I'm ok with it, go ahead, freedom of speech and thought etc etc.
However Tim Cook CEO of Apple lobbying and sending letters to all Apple employees pushimg his lobbying down their throats is not acceptable and wrong.

"He has to no right to say his opinion"! People would say. Even though he invest in clean energy and as a American citizen he has the right to voice his opinion.
Acting as an american citizen is different to abusing his position as Apple CEO.

Guessing most here opposed to trump withdrawing did not read the stupidity obama agreed to
Very few people hold all presients to the same level of accountability. They treat some presidents like gods and other presidents like the devil.

This is the saddest day in American politics since the assassination of MLK. If you don't think that, I doubt your sanity.
Do you even know the history of your own nation. You saying this makes me doubtful.

It's disgraceful that this issue is even considered "politics," that some are so wilfully blind as to think the long term well being of our species and our planet is just another issue that can be debated back and forth and used as a political cudgel, as if the science isn't clear and the dangers aren't real.

It's a true embarrassment that not everyone is behind doing anything and everything we can do, as the richest and most powerful nation in the world. Even more shameful is how Paris was just a tiny first step, and we couldn't even make that.
The whole Paris Accord is political farce. It's not about the science. If it was about the science, It would be be a gathering of the world's best climate scientists, not the world's most influential leaders.

Why don't Tim Cook, Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk and Bob Iger just bankroll the entire thing themselves then....
They should. But as we both know this is not about the science. If it was then all these "proud globalists" would bankroll the scientific research themselves. These "proud globalists" just want more influence in the political sphere so they can get their agenda accomplished.

Tim Cook sharing the letter he did does not achieve anything apart from showing how he us abusing his position as CEO. If Tim Cook sent a letter to all the Apple Employees saying - "Apple is funding independant research into climate change" then that would be quite respectable and something we can all get behind.

The facts are simple. Tim Cook is a hard democrat and is against anything that a Republican president does. Tim Cook earned his position at Apple while Obama was president. Did Tim Cook write letters to Apple about the wrongs Obama did? Not at all, Tim Cook kissed Obama's feet. Total hypocracy there.

The really sad part is the major Apple shareholders like Carl Icahn are not calling out his abuse of his position as CEO at the share holder meetings. The major shareholders should be demanding Tim Cook's head on a platter for this abuse of his position. But all the major Apple shareholders are piss weak. As long as their shares rise, they don't care about anything else.

This is a sad day indeed . . . not because of anything Trump did. It's a sad day because the CEO of the largest public company in the world - Apple - has abused his position as CEO and no one with power seems to care or want to put a stop to it.

Good to see that China will now be the leading country in reducing climate change, this will help them to become the leading country manufacturing renewable technology, more skilled jobs for China while the US increase the number of unskilled mining jobs digging out coal that no one wants to buy

Well done to Tim for joining all the other high tech companies supporting the reduction of climate change

trump is right. we don't know who is actually getting $400 billion dollars. thats too much money. its time to stop American citizens from paying for everything
How about instead of virtue signaling, Apple, Google, MS, etc. are free to donate as much money to this 400B fund. They could even make a "Donate" app and people are free to contribute as much as they want. Our tax dollars shouldn't be funding other countries economies.

The world should boycott US companies until they can get their act together.

You shouldn't buy a car made in the US.

Foreign manufacturing is cleaner than US manufacturing. US manufacturing is too dirty and polluted.

Fire American. Hire foreign.

It's better that Apple is Americans are forced to pay for other countries economies, since the US is the largest polluter and needs to be punished appropriately.

If its so unenforceable, then what's the harm in staying in? Worst case, nothing changes. Best case, we improve the environment. If we can't be forced to do anything we don't want to do, why not just stay in it?
If it's unenforcable then why bother being in. Anything said there will not amount to anything as no one can make the major polluters of the world change . . . because it's unenforcable as you said. Better to spend the time and money aiming for a goal that is actually enforcable somewhere in the world and will actually do some good.

Apple has the responsibility to abuse the little people to force them to pay for their dangerous climate pollution.

We need to punish the Americans that are responsible for climate change.

So what are you really saying? That everyone should feel the way you do? See things the way you do?
Just don't be a science denier. Most folks, even the most irrational "science is fake news" proponents like using their computers and smartphones; these devices didn't magically appear. Scientific research, advanced engineering, and financial investment made them happen. Human-Induced climate change is real and it poses a threat to mankind. We already have plenty of issues to deal with here on earth; why not take prudent steps to minimize man's impact instead of talking up the real fake news, resurrection of the coal economy.

As for the guy hoping Trump will eliminate constraints on auto manufacturers... dude, did you ever visit Los Angeles in the 60's? Auto emissions regulation placed by governments cleared the once brown and noxious skies. No "Great Wall" will keep the wind from blowing pollutants into your and everyone else's backyards.

Maybe Cook can just move to China now he probably feel more safe there. Considering that China is more committed to his cause and most of his cronies lives there anyway. Go Tim move to China, you don't like what's going on here in the US anyway. Please bring Whoopi Goldberg, Al Sharpton, Miley Cyrus, Samuel Jackson, Amy Schumer with you please. While you're at it also take Kanye West.

Great move by Trump. Now lets go after those epa nazis and their ridiculous demands for our automakers.

History, massive air polution 40 years ago. Went after the auto industry. Today they sell 8 times more cars, huge middle class increase in jobs industry wide, better products, excellent profits, and you can see the buildings in LA and other cities. Yep doing good for the environment has just killed them /S.

How is Tim "supporting the reduction of climate change"? Writing a letter is not doing it. Hating on the president for leaving an uneforcable accord is not doing it.

So how is Tim supporting the reduction of climate change? Please we want to know. So we all can also support this.

China didn't have to lower its emissions until something like 2030 under the scam accord. They also didn't have to pay anything either but we did. Also china uses massive amounts of coal. How do you think all their steel gets made?

You don't need to be in the Paris Accord to do that. Congress and the senate can do that right now if they all pass it through both houses.

All these CEOs should have encouraged Obama to push this to the senate. That is how our country does treaties. Any treaty one man does is undone by one man (or woman). Obama decided he should do this on his own without turning it over to the senate, so he made certain that any president that wanted to could withdraw. So here we are.

Fair point. Unilateral rule from the oval office is a mistake. Obama is learning this daily under Trump. Whim of one monarch to the next.

I said this in another thread. I was chastised for it.

I wonder if Timmy Cook will have a moment of silence about this during the WWDC keynote on Monday.
