Trump is the incoming president. That is set. It’s unlikely to change for 4 years.

These guys can either cry about it or they can try and influence change via cordial discussion.

Snubbing the invite to this is not the time to make some stand.

Get an audience with him and present your case.

Like it or not, pissing trump off for no good reason is going to be detrimental to both apple’s business and their customers.

Maintaining contact will at least give opportunity to explain privacy and manufacturing issues, import issues etc.

$1m is about the cost of one of Zuck’s watches. It’s a token gesture to maintain dialogue. It is not financially relevant.

This guy 👆🏻 gets it

This thread cracks me up. For 95% of his adult life Trump was a democrat and the democrats LOVED him. (With the exception of maybe Phil Donahue. 😄) He only recently changed his party affiliation to run for president because the Democrats had a long line of succession planned out, and he wasn't in it.

That's it. Nothing else really changed. Sure, a view on this or that may have, but in general he's the same person he was back in the 80's. Don't believe me? Watch the Oprah interviews and such. His values are pretty much the same now as they were then.

LOL...a one second web search proved you wrong.

"Trump's political party affiliation has changed numerous times. He registered as a Republican in Manhattan, New York in 1987, switched to the Reform Party in 1999, the Democratic Party in 2001, and back to the Republican Party in 2009."

And just for laughs, the Reform Party claimed that its core value was reestablishing trust in the government by electing ethical officials.

Proof that Tim Cook is smart enough to realize the implications of not bending the knee. He's just trying to insulate Apple Inc. from vengeful sanctions for perceived disloyalty.

I guess my take on this is that it's very telling. Clearly Cook supports Trump when you take this and his donation into account. At least on some level he's signaling his approval.
Not really! With all of the government lawfare today, he is simply hedging against the new administration coming after Apple. It is a smart business move and all of the Tech giants are doing it simply because most of them, not saying Apple, have been really bad actors during previous administrations. In some cases breaking really important laws.

🤣 Not the own you think it is. Thank you from proving my point. He was a democrat for most of his life before he ran for office.

LOL again...he didn't even register to vote prior to 1987. That's why there is no party affiliation record prior to that point. From 1987 to 1998 he was registered as Republican. Then he switched to billionaire Ross Perot's Reform Party for two years. Then he switched to being a registered Democrat during the W. Bush administration. Then switched back to being Republican from 2009 forward.

Basic math tells you that Trump has been a Republican for 29 years and a Democrat for 8 years.

I understand the necessary evil of this. The other tech bros are kissing the ring, and Cook needs to remain on the orange man’s good side for the sake of Apple’s corporate interests … but it’s still wild to behold. Nobody was sucking up to Biden like this. This is some third-world ish we’re looking at. Buckle up, I guess. It’s gonna be cringe 24/7 for the next four years (at a minimum).
Biden is more or less just another democrat president.

He voiced his concerns about his detractors but won’t hound them for their words or actions.

Trump is anything but that and has proven to be extremely volatile and unpredictable.

I don’t blame Cook or most other American CEOs for “kissing the ring”.

Trump is infamous for his mafioso “with me or against me” mentality. Even to the point of denying disaster relief for those living in areas with low support for him during elections.

If Trump has any suspicion about any prominent figure not liking him he will completely hyper focus on that individual and make a mockery of them or use his powers to force them into submission.

With a few exceptions, I don’t see Cook or other big CEOs gaining much from kissing up to him. It’s more about just not poking the bear in the next four years and doing what you can to avoid losses.

because @throAU doesnt know history, heres the effect of free markets, with a few contrasts included:

Goodbye American (Apple) Pie. This inauguration has truly become a joke with the money involved. I'm glad it will be miserable weather. Hopefully no one gets sick and pulls a Harrison. 🤣😉
Obamas inauguration was 170 million (I looked it up because I was curious what the average was). Adjusted for our crazy inflation Trumps probably costing less. Biden inauguration was cheap because of CV19. People take a chill pill.
People get so manipulated by media. Get angry at this. Rage at that. What a bunch of nonsense.

The US, richest country in the world, has a horrible life expectancy compared to other developed countries.
Tell us the numbers, the margin of error in measurement, the adjustments necessary for different methods of measurement. Dont just say it's bad....tell us the numbers. And then adjust by racial heterogeneity.

The US is basically running with the pack. But it's complicated and not good for headlines and requires a lot of math and epidemiology to make these comparisons. Just looking at total combined life expectancy one country vs another is only fit for innumerates, politicians, and journalists (but I repeat myself).

I wish Trump had not accepted such donations. We don’t want the incoming administration to be encumbered by perceived obligations to such donors.

Maybe no one would consider $1M enough to be able to expect favors.
Say the same thing when Kamala was giving out millions to podcasters to setup lavish podcast sets to interview her? Where do you think that money came from?

The way things are going he could be in for 8 years from this point. Which is wild. And he could have served two terms and been out the door right now but with all the shady stuff that took place in the 2020 election and now this year that shortfall of tens of millions of voters... It's easy to draw conclusions. I think the system was thinking too short term and shot itself in the foot with the shenanigans in 2020. And here we are.
I will bet anyone in America a million dollars that Trump will not serve more than 4 years. I will beg borrow and steal to make this bet because it is the easiest money in the world.

This is mass hysteria nonsense. The elections over...let's stop pretending the crazy stuff is real.

Nobody will take you up in that bet because the presidential term limit is 8 years.

That will give you a comparison. Pretty sure all of the prerequisites you listed aren't necessary to make the conclusion

Obviously our poorer states bring those numbers down, but even our best states still fall below other countries

Running with the pack is certainly not the case here.

The US has a high level of ethnic diversity.

Each of its ethnic population has similar life expectancy to those of the same ethnicity living in other countries.
Ok so you're getting into eugenics?

Not going to go well with that one chart you previously showed with the differences between South Korea and North Korea. Almost as if resources and environment are a big factor
