Are LED backlit panels 20" and larger still expensive?

Samsung's LED backlit 20", 24" and 30" are significantly more expensive.

Would not see HDCP/HDMI on the next revision-as it appears no desktop or laptop Macs have HDMI ports, only the Apple TV.

You can also send HDCP over DVI.

And when Apple decides to add Blu-Ray to their line-up, they will need HDCP support on their monitors.

The computer have it already. I don't think ACDs as expensive, but an update wouldn't be bad. 12 bit LUT, HDMI, even an embedded i-Sight, are features I would have no qualms with.

I know that tower/machine has it already, but nothing beats being able to plug in a FW drive via the monitor, and not the front port of the back ports.

I would love to see the ACDs get those updates too, but we have to remember that Apple doesn't make the panels, so only the case is really up for improvement from Apple.

So yes, bring on the upgraded cases.

p.s. No one should ever want crappy audio, if so, then nothing is wrong with the built in speakers on all the systems. Why put them on the ACDs then have me pay for crappy audio I won't use.

I think we should keep it as professional as they are now, or more.

Amen! I have a 30" ACD, but would really love an update, as long as they don't stray too far from the current formula.

Good to see another MDD owner who's also looking to buying a new MP now! I am also planning get the 8800...

I see that apple has released a bunch of new stuff over the last day or two, iphone/ipod & software updates. My hopes were momentarily raised for a display update, but it doesn't look like it'll happen.

It does seem like the current ACDs are excellent, S-IPS etc. I've read good reviews everywhere and I have seen them physically and they are clearly superb. My concern though is that the updated ACDs might have that cool black margin around it that the new iMac's or maybe a new streamlined enclosure, built in camera?. I don't want to miss out on that if it means waiting a little_while_longer... I still remember that only a few months after buying my MDD they came out with the completely revolutionary G5... I must admit it hurt a little...

I have actually been trying to find reviews on Apple's current displays but have had little luck googling - only about two articles. Could you provide a few links?

But what panels would they install? I think the only S-IPS 23" panel is made by Philips.LG and the ACD already has it. I suppose they could use the panel that is in the iMac, but I'm not so sure it is any better. If you want it that badly, you could buy the NEC 24", I guess. Perhaps Apple want to stick with 23" for consistency and pixel pitch reasons.

I think only 3 or 4 companies make panels, and unless they have an update the ACD panels won't be updated. Although an update to other things might be good.

I would prefer an H-IPS panel and I believe the next displays will include DisplayPort. Otherwise, I have few quibbles.

They won't be DisplayPort until Apple has some DisplayPort cards and outputs in the Mac Pro and MacBook Pro, respectively.

That said, bring on the updates!

I believe we will see DisplayPort in June in the MP and new ACDs, and possibly in the MBP (especially if Apple uses an ATI gfx card with DisplayPort - already available) which will be upgraded to Montevina.

Agree.

1. Lower Prices
2. IR
3. HDMI
4. i-Sight HD (720-1090p) w/ stereo audio
5. More ports, USB 3.0
5. Thinner, less heat
6. Higher Contrast Ratio
7. Blue-tooth
8. Headphone jack

Damn they seriously need to update

This is not a list worthy of such a resurrection.

Why in the world you would you want, IR, Bluetooth, a headphone jack, and USB3.0 in a monitor?

Apple won't do HDMI when their brain child is mini-display port.

And thinner with less heat is an oxymoron for what we have in tech today.
