So confused ... we have one of these and it got High Sierra - it works just fine - does this mean it won't get the next version of Mac OS next year?
This is hardware support - Apple won't service it if something fails. OS / software support is different and can continue after hardware support is dropped.

I wonder if Apple would ever take the motherboard from the retina MacBook, take off the screen & keyboard, and sell it as a Mac Nano? Not saying that I'm for or against. Just honestly wondering.

Expected news. The 2011 mac mini was last sold in October of 2012. Add 5 years. Since it is December they are actually running behind in the announcement.

:( If Apple makes a Mac Mini on par with the 2012, I will finally move away from iMacs. I may not like Apple’s brass and other things lately, but the Mini is the Mac that would probably keep me around (especially if I can continue to use the iMac as a display.)

It is disappointing to see the repairable machines becoming obsolete.

I was on the same boat and recently realized 2013 Mac Pro is the best alternative. BH have them on sale for 1899

The 2017 mini should also be on that list.

2013 Mac Pro as well.

And they never will for this, its allllllll onboard the onboard train. While I love my 2016 Macbook Pro 15 I really despise that even the SSD is soldered in. This stuff drives me insane.

Apple doesn't care. Vote with your wallet and don't buy their products. Hit them where it hurts.

No! Best machine I still have! I guess High Sierra is the all I can go......

Late 2014 "upgrade" should be considered a crime.

What are you showing here?

This announcement, and everything else related to the Mac mini. It's simply no longer being viewed as a priority for Apple, and has been that way since 2013.

It’s very hard to take Tim Cook seriously again after those comments. He takes speaking empty rhetoric to levels not seen or heard before. I don’t think he realises how unattractive that kind of language is.

The Mac Mini should’ve been one of the easiest to upgrade. Apple and especially Tim Cook’s Apple simply don’t want a value budget headless Mac.

You take this machine, you update the internals, you make it space gray to make it more “stylish” and you sell it as the desktop computer for 95% of use case scenarios. With improvements to efficiency of internals you could also make it much smaller. This is not rocket science folks.

Come on Apple, get your act together. Update the Mini, Mac Pro, iMac and displays now!

I think the Mini and the Mac Pro are going to be discontinued eventually. They are "specialized" products that are sold in numbers that, given Apple's massive production quantities, are essentially rounding errors. Not trying to be flippant here because I know people love these products, but to me, that's the reality.

As for the iMac, that got updated in June, and the new iMac Pro will be coming out in a few weeks. IMHO, the new iMac Pro will be the replacement for the Mac Pro.

As for displays, Apple is out of that game, just like they are now out of the router business and the printer business (the latter dates me because I fondly remember the Apple LaserWriter series :D). Third parties can make these peripherals with excellent quality, so Apple doesn't really need to anymore.

One of the reasons I refuse to get rid of my now obsolete Mac Pro is that there is no Mac model where you can put in your own DVD collection that you purchased and make a digital copy of it, which is totally legal. They've just made it technically impossible by removing the media drives from everything. I guess the Mac Mini was just too ideal for this.

Why should I have to rebuy all my movies with digital copies from Apple in sometimes lower quality?
No one has ever quite explained this to me to make any sense. I refuse to comply. It reminds me of the infamous Apple 1984 commercial about Macintosh.

When you put up restrictions, you just induce and help pirating.

I would love to see a Mac Mini with a Blu-Ray player, but that'll never happen. Too much "Bag O' Hurt" as Steve Jobs famously said. So I'll just find another way.

Apple is slowly driving me away. I can't lie. :(

Did someone at Apple drag into the trash the master files for production of the whole Mac line up?
Updates are slower and less substantial each year.
Apple is on the go slow, and it's a disgrace.
New Macs now that make us go

Does this mean that High Sierra is the last OS to come out with support for it? E.g. you’ll only get patches till 2018?

Frankly, that’s what I think Apple stinks at being clear about.

Yes, they upgraded it with USB3, and removed the quad core option castrating it.
i have the late 2012 version which has both quad core and usb3. And certainly don't agree with the comment about the quad core. I guess mine still has support not that I have ever needed it.
