SO.....a bit further down the rabbit hole today. I stopped by the local apple store today where I am (hopefully) picking up my phone Friday. I explained that I was part of the IUP and that I had been told "just show up at the store on launch day, mention the IUP and the phone call and they will take care of it". This immediately flagged the manager to come over. I explained to her I was part of the botched pre order and that I wanted to stop by to make sure they were aware of the situation and that myself and an unknown number of people were going to show up with the same story. She said they were aware that there was a huge issue and that it was being worked on, but asked if I had a reservation time or confirmation number. I said no, just a contact number and an assurance to show up and it would be there. She told me they just received a direct number yesterday that they were to call with this specific issue. So call they did....I missed most of the conversation until I was handed the phone to speak to the man behind the curtain. He asked me the specifics of when I called initially and when I got the response that it would be at the store and said WOW, we have been telling people 72 hours. I don't know how you got a 24 hour turn around time. He then advised that I call the representative that told me my phone would be there to get more info. The store manager asked me to come back tomorrow (the store was getting ready to close) with information or to see if I could set up a chat between her and the representative. The store manager said she was aware that they were taking model, size, and store preference but had not heard anything about resolution yet.
Then I called my contact from apple central.....
She asked me what my and the store managers concerns were and I told her it was that they had no way to see or confirm my order. She told me that she did not want to me worry, that she had been with apple a long time and they absolutely were going to get this right. She said that my IMEI and SN of my current phone should be enough to show that one was held for me....but also said that they are working with a moving problem and it had not been all worked out yet but would be for sure by the time I walked into the store. I mentioned the concern about 72 hours vs my 24 and she said I was in the very first group that they called because I was one of the first calls they got (how cool!). Finally she said she worked directly with the team working on fixing this and would bring to their attention immediately that store managers needed to be notified of the incoming wave of people not on their reservation list and needed a better way to see that our phones are there waiting for us. Finally she said again that she did not want me to worry and said "it will be fixed". There is a chance she may follow up with me again. I will give this info to the local store manager tomorrow and post if they can find my order, or if anything else interesting comes up.
P.S. - I can confirm seeing more stock, almost pulled trigger on what I wanted through the IUP about 90 min from my house(The first time I saw what I wanted with the IUP), but a combination of her assurances, plus needing to move on with my life made me stick with the "plan" that I am on for my local store this friday.
