Yeah true... I think the official policy is that they don't allow it but maybe some reps will let it slide? The person I worked with was adamant I could only do it through IUP otherwise the reservation would be cancelled.
I didn't use the reservation system because I'm not part of the iUP, but I finally found a store within a 20 minute radius that had the 256gb Black plus model in stock!

im about to be on my way to the apple store now... same situation, i'll report back.Anyone reserve one today using IUP and sign up for it in store ?
Got my order for later tonight to pick up mine and want to get a guide for success.
Trying to call and see if i'm going to be turned away if I got pick up this jet black. I called 3 minutes after opening and found out if the phone lines are busy and nobody answers at the store, the calls get re-routed to corporate. The dude at corporate told me it's for the program, but if I make it clear what I was doing and purchasing outright, then I shouldn't have a problem with what I was doing. It's an hour drive for me into an area I'm not familiar with and asked if there was anyway to confirm with the store. Supposedly corporate has a direct extension to the stores for times their lines are busy and trying to currently confirm with the store. Came back while I was typing this and the corporate dude said the gentleman at the store said I'd be fine.
Ugh drove all the way down here and the dude in line checking reservationists in is giving me a hassle about purchasing device only 90min drive for nothing after being told I'd be fine
That's disappointing. Very disappointing.
Yeah, but actually got it straightened out. Andrew the manager of the store straightened it all out for me. Gonna sell it device only and not activate it on verizon
That's what I found too today!I found a T-Mobile iPhone 7 plus 256gb phone near me!! I'm going to exchange mine.
Big thanks to this thread. After a little bit of issue with the employee, walked away with the 7+/256/JB Verizon device only. The employee eventually got the Business Manager for me who straightened everything out. There were actually two business managers there or maybe 1 former, but I was handled by those that had business manager experience. The gentleman that handled my transaction, had said the employees don't really know this but the business managers do, but you can select "device only" on the transaction screen that lists the carrier. He actually showed it to me. It was in the list. If getting kick back from an employee, hope there's a business manager on site and ask for that individual
Side note... There were quite some salty people in line with reservations. Was kind of shocked by that. Just hope the next launch is handled better, but the gentleman had told me that the 6s was about the same after asking because it was my 1st going from Android/Iphone 3G to Android last like 8 years to a use 5 the last 2 months to this.
Oh Wow, I happened to score a Jet Black 256 7+ Verizon there too. 30min drive for me, and that store was so busy when we got there. There was a group of Asian resellers that were buying ridiculous amounts of 7Pluses and iPads. Good thing that I got assigned a nice specialist who said it would be easier for me to buy device only rather than do IUP for my reservation. I did not complain. This specialist also told me that they had a jet black shipment about 10-20 units (7 and 7+ total).
