Best buy method / sim swap method
Apologies for being late to the party, can you quickly describe a step-by-step process for this? I've a 6+ on backorder from Apple, so I'd prefer not to have to go through Best Buy.

You get your phone from a retailer online, such as Apple via ship to home. When you're choosing the data plan online, choose whatever you like - that's not actually going onto the plan. When you get the phone, do not turn it on until you take the sim card out of the phone. Put your current sim card into the phone, and you're good to go.

Plan changes don't take affect unless you use the sim that's provided with the new equipment. Throw that sim away, it's poison.

Numbers are tied to the unlimited data line with verizon, and there is no way to just swap them without using tricks like google voice. They won't just "do" it for you.

Can I do the 2nd part? Once I turn on the new iPhone 6 that's attached to the new apple UDP line....suspend the new UDP line and sell it and the phone separately?

Is there a guide to doing this? I know I may have asked several times in this thread but I don't want to screw it up.

I have 2 lines, a contracted 2GB line, and one of these new unlimited lines.

Basically, I want my brother to use the unlimited line, and give my mother the limited line (she currently is using Virgin Mobile)

I think I get the basic gist of it down.

I use Google Voice to request my brothers number, and have it transferred there. Then I will REQUEST my mothers Virgin number on the 2GB account. Once that's processing/going through, I will then request my brothers number from Google Voice onto the Unlimited Line.

All of this done via online. Sounds good?

So once I receive my iPhone, turning it on (with my old/current SIM inside) essentially renews my unlimited contract to 2 years? Is this a tried and true method currently? I almost feel uneasy that it would be as simple as that.

The one caveat is the one I have on backorder is coming with unlimited (thanks to hole pointed about by OP) so I do stand to make money by selling the line.

Is there a way to renew my current contract, keep unlimited, and then still sell off the new unlimited line associated with the new SIM?

Mr. Markyr,

okay, so i cannot swap numbers, is this the best method for me?

-upgrade my Line 1 by ordering iPhone 6 through Best Buy.com, ship to home. -while waiting for iPhone 6 to arrive, activate my friend's iPhone 5 in place of my 4s, so I have active 4G phone and nano sim on my line.
-when new iPhone 6 arrives, swap sim from iPhone 5 to the iPhone 6, turn on the 6 and all should be good right?

Is Costco ordering still working, or is it best to just go through BB?

Separate Question
I'm still nervous about the new UDP line I got through Apple. I haven't opened the iPhone 6 yet, and have to return it by Friday if I want to walk away unscathed. Can I turn it on, then suspend the line and sell the line and phone separately?

Thank you for your help in advance. I've read pages and pages of stuff and now i'm confused and lost in this whole process. I just want to have a UDP and ipHone 6 with no hiccups.

We are talking about 2 different things. One is doing an upgrade with an unlimited data line and keeping the unlimited data, and the other is adding the line from Apple and getting a new unlimited line

No, I'm aware. I was just wondering if there was a way to kill two birds with one stone and take advantage of both loopholes (renew unlimited contract, but still have new unlimited line to sell off).

I'm assuming it's either/or, then?

Ok- so I just sold my new unlimited data line. I thought I figured this out- but want to condlfirm with you guys: I am staying with my current phone number and month to month contract but I want to use the new subsidized iphone- will switching devices on Verizon's website be enough. I will also be AOLing the new line as stated. OR do I need to deal with any kind of SIM switch? I do not have a SIM on my current iphone 4. Thanks, sorry if redundant.

----------

by the way- new line does show on verizon website and I have turned phone on with no known issues.

Line 1- month2month UDP iphone 5
Line 2- contract Max 6gb S4
Line 3- month2month UDP 4gLTE Mifi
Line 4- month2month basic phone

Hi, sorry I'm kinda late here. Just ordered a new line on Apple.com with UDP. Waiting on conformation email to pick up in store. I plan to keep the line. I'm line 1, my husband is line 2. Grandma is line 4. I'm planning to activate new line and use for me, give line 1 to husband and switch to his S4. Suspend line 4 and give line 2 to grandma and change to basic phone. Line 3 stays :) Sell iphone 5. This should work, right? What is the best way to activate once I get out of Apple store and I set up myself? Since I'm actually going to use the line, don't wanna mess up the UDP on line 1. Thanks

so you're going to continue your existing month-to month udp line with new phone and hope that the pending new line that verizon now has on your account just goes away?
or does your old mtm udp line turn into a 2 year udp line with the sim swap?
believe it or not, i've been following from the beginning and i still don't get this part.

use VZW.com and apply the upgrades from lines 1 and 3 to line 2 to get them on contract.

What?

I was telling the person only how to do the best buy method to upgrade an Udp line. In this scenario there is no "new line"

I love Apple, but these product launch hassles are taking the joy out of being a loyal customer.

I want to get an iPhone 6 on AT&T's Next plan. My local Apple store has had occasional inventory, but Apple.com doesn't allow online orders for in-store pickup for AT&T Next. Meanwhile, Best Buy *only* offers in-store pickup for AT&T Next phones, but my local Best Buy never has inventory.

Finding a way to give Apple $700 (and then AT&T over $2,000) is like a full-time job ...

If you don't have a nano SIM for your month to month line you have to go get a new one. The SIM for the AOLed line is not reusable.

I know this was stated earlier but those that have ordered several phones from Apple.com and now get an error when ordering; how did you fix it? I think it had to do with to many credit check requests. Thanks.

That means I need to get rid of this unlimited Individual plan with 5 friends and family like asap ;) Am I still going to be one of the first people to activate a shipped order on an individual plan?

Is the error you speak of the one about possibly needing a deposit or an actual error?

----------

Anyone else get a message about a possible deposit may be needed when adding a other line?? i thought I saw one poster mention that.

It seems like there are too many things that can go wrong with trying to secure upgrade pricing while keeping one's UDP. This is what my current family plan looks like:

Line 1 - UDP
Line 2 - UDP (upgrade available)
Line 3 - TDP

I tried to transfer the upgrade on line 2 to line 3 in order to get upgrade pricing, but Verizon told me that just moving the upgrade would cause line 2 to lose its UDP. I can't remember if Best Buy told me this as well or not. But even if this was possible, I don't think I could do a device swap to associate the number on line 1 to the device purchased under line 3 (my line is line 1). If I tried the SIM swap method I think the upgrade would have to had already been on my line. In the end I just ended up paying full retail price ($800 through Best Buy) minus the trade-in value I received for my 5s ($300).

Note: I later called Best Buy and had them refund me $50 in order to price match what other major retailers were selling the same phone for.

I have a question about transferring upgrades...

Line 1 - 4S UDP mtm upgrade available
Line 2 - 4S UDP mtm upgrade available
Line 3 - 4 UDP mtm upgrade available
Line 4 - 4s 2Gb just used upgrade
Line 5 - new UDP iphone6+ coming Thursday (which I'll use on line 1)

I just used the upgrade on line 4 to get an i6 which will be used on line 3. Can I transfer any of the other 3 upgrades to line 4 and use them to get phones for those lines? Or am I blocked because I just used that lines upgrade?

Thanks!

No it says error processing request, comes after entering CC info. I believe a few others had it a couple pages back and cnotes had it but simply stated "he fixed it". Just like to know what they did.

right. shouldn't have said "pending new line".
let me ask what i meant to ask:
so you're going to continue your existing month-to month udp line with the new phone and hope that the pending upgrade, that Verizon now has on your account, just goes away?
sooner or later Apple is going to come to Verizon for the balance on the phone.
that new phone is linked to your account.
maybe Verizon's system doesn't try to match it to an upgrade when it pays Apple, but then again...

Please remember that I'm adding a new line to an existing account that already had a single line with ULD. (see my earlier post)

correct

Is adding a UDP not available anymore? When I go to the apple store, I choose "Add existing line to my account" and the next page it asks for the phone, zip and SS# and then I click on "check eligibility". The next page tells me to select a MORE Everything plan from 250 mb to 100 gb. I don't have any other options listed for me that refer to my current UDP.

I was thinking of adding line for my wife, but if not, I will just the the upgrade for the UDP through Apple instead for my one line UDP.

Thanks.
