No

It would help cover the cost, but not cover it.

You can probably get between 400-500 in the BEST circumstances. I get 300 per 5s- I don't sell directly to consumer, though.

Figure out your costs- how much you would pay, how much they are selling for, and what you get after fees.

Correct me if my math is wrong but on swappa, I see that the price of last sold iphone 6 was $770. Considering it might take some time between 2 to 3 weeks, I can maybe sell for at least $700? Note 4 on Verizon for full price is $699 so wouldn't that cover the cost besides $199 that goes into buying the iphone?

Any kind soul willing to give up on a UDP line they have laying around? Really need my phone activated and I can't wait much longer.

so my family member changed her mind and wants Note 4. Would reselling iphone 6 cover the cost of it? Or 6+?
6+ - I have worked out the math a bunch of times on the SD forum but here it goes again:

16GB iP6+ cost including sales tax = $320 + $35 activation fee = $355
16GB iP6+ sale price based on current swappa prices = $845

http://swappa.com/buy/apple-iphone-6-plus-verizon/us
(you may get less by the time you are able to buy an iP6+ though)

fees to sell + s/h + insurance = $55

So total costs = $355 + $55 = $410

Profit = $845 - $410 = $435

Now you add to the $435 profit the money it would cost you to upgrade to a Note 4 including sales tax = $320 + $30 upgrade fee = $350.

So $435 + $350 = $785.

Then compare that to the full retail price of the Note 4 + sales tax = $745

So if you could get at least $805 for your iP6+, you would be even. If you could get more than $805 for the iP6+, you would be ahead.

Don't forget the Samsung $200 promo - any working smartphone that appraises for at least $10. If you don't have one to trade in, buy a cheap one off of swappa.

I used a sales tax rate of 6% but you can redo the math with whatever sales tax rate your state charges.

Would you not be able to add a line through Apple if that happened or would you be able to add a line but it just wouldn't activate?

That is what flagged means - your activity is suspicious enough to trip a "flag" within the system, prompting a review and a hold.

I would need to try this b/c a Verizon phone cannot be on 2 Verizon lines at one time and every line must have a phone on it based on everything I have tried. Are you saying you do this:

1) You have your iP6+ on your UDP Line 1;
2) You have a new iP on new UDP Line 2;
3) You shut off both phones and remove the SIM cards; and
4) You place new UDP Line 2's SIM card in your iP6+ and turn it on.

Now your iP6+ works on new UDP Line 2? What do you see when you do that and log onto Verizon online - do you see your iP6+ on both Line 1 and Line 2? Or does your UDP Line 1 not show a device?

It's not a system flag usually. It's a manual hold on your account from one of 2 departments. Credit or fraud. A human sees your account because they are tipped off by employee (employees are encouraged to report possible fraud) or through random review, or a system recommendation, which prompts somebody in the proper department to look over the account. So it's not simply a "flag"

Yes it works just fine. Think of it this way: Verizon has to allow all LTE phones to work in all circumstances. The phone isn't going to just not work with a new sim. I do this all the time, test if you like. It's how I free up lines if I need to.

Check my math above - you have to factor in what your sister would spend to upgrade to the Note 4. She wouldn't be able to get a Note 4 for free would she if she used an upgrade right? So you have to count what it would cost her to buy the Note 4 if she did an upgrade as opposed to adding a line.

Just redo the numbers with your sales tax rate and the iP6 versus the iP6+.

What you missed here is the income from selling the unlimited data plan

You are putting the cart b/f the horse. How does the credit or fraud department know to review your account? B/c you trip a system flag for suspicious activity and that prompts a human review.

Well that wouldn't be a flag - that would be suspicious activity detected by a human.

or a system recommendation, which prompts somebody in the proper department to look over the account.
That would be called tripping a flag in the parlance that is commonly used for this sort of industry.

No I didn't b/c the poster who prompted this is giving the UDP line to her sister, not selling it. Her sister has a basic phone right now.

----------

Can someone please explain the process of setting up sub account? Does that require a call to Verizon?
yes, I did it through AOL dept but maybe you can do it through reg CSR, idk.

But what does your UDP Line 1 show when you log onto Verizon online?

I would test it but last time I played around with SIM cards, I screwed up a line and had to involve Verizon to clean up the mess I caused.

haha you remembered. I probably bothered you too many times now. Only problem now is getting a iphone 6 plus near my area :( I doubt I would be able to use the promo since it will end by 10/22 unless iPhone 6+ magically gets restocked and somehow I get lucky enough to grab it before supply runs out.

Redo my math with the iP6 then, just check swappa for the current sale prices.

Also, look into the Samsung promo - you need to buy a working smartphone worth at least $10 of trade-in value. Then Samsung gives you $200. Buy one off of swappa if you have to.

But you have to pre-order it I think by 10/22.

https://samsunggalaxypromotions.com/note4

here is where you check the trade-in value:

16GB iP6 cost including sales tax = $214 + $35 activation fee = $249
16GB iP6 sale price based on current swappa prices = $770

fees to sell + s/h + insurance = $55

So total costs = $249 + $55 = $299

Profit = $770 - $299 = $471

Now you add to the $471 profit the money it would cost you to upgrade to a Note 4 including sales tax = $320 + $30 upgrade fee = $350.

So $471 + $351 = $822

Then compare that to the full retail price of the Note 4 + sales tax = $747
So if you could get at least $695 for your iP6, you would be even. If you could get more than $694 for the iP6, you would be ahead.

I just replaced numbers for iP6. Could you check my math? I used 7% for tax

That $770 was for a gold one, so maybe the gold ones are more in demand, idk, but the last space grey sold for $700. So let's use the lower number just to be safe. If you get the opportunity to get a gold one, maybe get that one if they sell for more.

Also round up $249 to $250.

fees to sell + s/h + insurance = $55
Swappa fee is $10 which is subtracted before the paypal fees. Paypal fees are 2.9% + 30 cents. So on $700 sale price, swappa fee is $10 and paypal fee is about $21, round down to make the math easier and sale fees = $30. Shipping USPS priority mail with insurance on $700 and signature required (included when you insure for that much) would depend on where the buyer lives, but about $20. So then the fees would be $50.

So total costs = $250 + $50 = $300.

Profit = $700 - $300 = $400

Now you add to the $400 profit the money it would cost you to upgrade to a Note 4 including sales tax = $320 + $30 upgrade fee = $350.

So $400 + $350 = $750

Then compare that to the full retail price of the Note 4 + sales tax = $750 rounded up.

So as long as you could get $700 for your iP6, you would be even. If you could get more than $700 for the iP6, you would be ahead. And if you got less, then you would be behind.

Alright I was gonna ask which color but you already answered me haha

The Verizon Galaxy Nexus appraises for $11 on the Verizon trade-in site and you could get one on swappa that meets the trade-in criteria for about $80, probably less if you ask the seller if they would take $75 I am sure they would. That would net you another $125 if you did the Note 4 pre-order.

So basically, if you can sell a 16GB iP6 for $700 and you buy a GNex that meets the trade-in criteria for $75, you would end up profiting $125 off of the transaction compared to what it would cost your sister to upgrade to the Note 4 AND your sister would get a UDP line!!!!!

Keep your eye on swappa to see what they sell for.

Yes I believe Jules is correct any charges billed prior to the assumption (activation fees and the phone cost if purchased from V) would be billed to the person who had the contract at the time

That's what I thought too and what happened with my first AOL. However, I did the second AOL a few days back and the buyer emailed me that he got charged the activation fee. My billing cycle ends Nov 5, so will have to wait and see if Verizon charged us both.

Did you add the line and aol it the same day? If so, that is why that happened.

Dreamjaeil, you need to listen to Mama JulesJam - buy yourself a GNex for $75 that meets the trade-in criteria - no cracked screen, etc. Then pre-order the Note4 b/f 10/22 for your sister using a credit card - the credit card won't be charged until the Note4 ships.

Also tell your sister if she changes her mind about the Note4, she owes you $75 for the GNex.

It seems you totally missed the point that a flag is an automatic thing and more often than not a human sees.

Um, that is what I have been saying all along. Not sure why you are confused about what I was saying. But what you just stated there, is in agreement with everything I have been saying all along.

Computer programs are in place to monitor subscriber activity. When your activity meets certain criteria you trip a flag - that is a given and why you were trying to deny that idk. Then when a suspicious activity flag is tripped, humans are alerted to manually review the situation.

Humans also can manually review a subscriber even when no flags are tripped simply b/c they become aware of suspicious activity.

Any kind soul willing to give up on a UDP line they have laying around? Really need my phone activated and I can't wait much longer.

Can you somehow leave your email and I can give you a line? I don't have enough posts so I cannot PM yet. Thanks

I also have three more UDP laying around if anyone else is interested. Not trying to make anything on them. Just wanted to upgrade my families phones without extending contracts. Please leave your email if possible. Thanks everyone

Oh, you'd be an absolute lifesaver if you could do this. I'll take 2 lines if it's not too much of a bother.
