I have a friend that drives for FedEx, and she says that they hate iPhone launch day: they have to get at least an indirect signature, and LOTS of customers who aren't home don't leave a signature form on their door.

Some of them need the direct signature and won't leave the phone even with the signature form. It depends on what their manager has instructed them to do.

That happened with my last iPhone delivery. I put the form on the door just in case I didn't hear the knock when the driver arrived. I thought it was fine since the form was there, but nope. I had to call UPS and arrange to meet the driver on her route to get my phone. The driver apologized and explained that even though Apple had the form she still wasn't allowed to leave it.

This has not been my experience, nor was the other poster's experience my experience. My Apple stuff goes from China to Alaska to LA (area) and never goes to Knoxville. I assume this is because I'm west coast, but I don't actually know.

So...maybe we just accept that there are a variety of ways one can get an iphone?

I did say that my last phone (5s) originated near Los Angeles. This would be a bulk shipment that was only broken out into individual shipments after going through customs. But 10 days from China to Knoxville is a serious anomaly, not the usual method.

My old UPS guy was a friendly dude who would do the happy dance with me whenever I got a package from Apple. The new guys are surly, and I can never get more than a bare grunt out of them. No Christmas cookies for you, grinch!

Awesome thanks. Right now I am on the UPS website and signed up for UPS my choice but I am don't know what UPS calls their "hub". Is it the customer service center? Or access point? I don't know there is so many different names on the site lol
Customer service center..

For my iPhone 5 the driver didn't even try to get a signature. Knocked and then was halfway to the truck when I got to the door. And I was listening out. It didn't bother me. Delivering 5 million phones on the same day is no mean feat and hats off to them.

I would have been happy if my phone showed up that early. Last year it was close to 8PM before it arrived. I may choose hold for pick up instead.
Same here. Waited ALL DAY. UPS guy rang door bell about 7:30 nearly 8 pm and I remember screaming. UPS guy looked at me like I was nuts. Apparently my iPhone was on another truck, misdirected on the wrong truck and he got it as a late delivery since he was done. Of course it was love after I got it so......

You doubt what? Of course you can change your order. I didn't say you wouldn't have to wait longer.
Yea just spoke with apple. I can either cancel and reorder or just contact my local store when I get it and exchange it for the color I want if they have it.

I haven't read every post, but my experience is different. I went to the Apple Store today. I preordered there. After I walked outside, I realized I had not specified 6s or 6s plus. So I rushed back in to the store to change my preorder. There I discovered a couple of things. First, my preorder is not shown in my account, nor does it have a number. Nor did I give a credit card (although I have a credit card associated with my iTunes account). The only thing I got is an email. Now, I had them ship for pickup at the store. They set up an appointment time to pick up at 2pm on the 25th. The associate told me I could set payment up at that time. As you know, there's a number of different of different methods to pay, one of which is the Apple plan, which they were unable to fully explain, training on that has not started yet. Anyway, I had ordered unknowingly the 6s. So we tried to cancel or change the order. That can't be done. It stated that in the email. So I told the associate lets place a second order for the 6s plus. That couldn't be done either, it was not available. They told me I could switch when I picked up, assuming what I wanted is available in the store. That seems like a slim possibility. The other thing I found interesting is that one of the options to pay is to pay cash. But at least as of now, it is not unlocked if you buy that way. The only way to buy unlocked is to use the Apple payment plan. So, just throwing it all out there. Right now I have an appointment to pick up the 6s 128g on the 25th, only confirmed by an email.

I know that's what they tell people to prevent scalpers, but isn't there some FCC thing that requires fully paid off phones to be unlocked?

is it just me or was this year a little TOO smooth.... I'm feeling like the buffoonery will happen in store on launch day.

Tim Cook: "So, are we ready to go?"
Angela Ahrendts: "Yes! We have more than enough iPhone 6/6 Pluses to meet demand in the stores!"
Tim Cook: "Great! That's great news! You know, this year is going to be...wait...did you say 6/6 Plus?"

Just for anyone freaking out about the pope this year... My 6 last year actually came from Harrisburg (I'm sure it was made in China, but the original shipment was Harrisburg to here). They will likely ship people within the affected area their phones to their local hubs a day before everything gets messed up, so that they are not trying to send huge trucks into these major areas. They'll still be held until the 25th, but I would assume that Apple and UPS at some point discussed this. It may also be a reason why the preorder is 2 weeks rather than 1 this year.

My coworkers husband is my UPS driver. I just send a text and meet him in the morning. I hand him a cup of coffee and a doughnut and he hands me my shiny new iPhone.

I orderd a pink silicone 6s case for my wife's iphone 6 yesterday, it said it ships in 1 to 3 days, I got a shipment notification that it shipped last night from Harrisburg and will be delivered to Delaware today, UPS. So HArrisburg may already have a bunch of iphones just sitting there waiting!
