i wonder if it would be possible to show the percentage in a lockscreen widget.

the Apple one only shows me information about the watch.

Suspect it's text legibility. The Xr / 11 screens don't have the pixel resolution to effectively display the numbers, and the mini's are probably either too tight on space, or the text would be too small.
iPhone 6/7/8/SE have the exact same pixel density as XR and 11, but those have no problem displaying the battery percentage.

it's always funny to see all the worshippers in the forum bend over backward to defend Apple's crap decisions.
Apple has a long long history of making software decisions specifically to push people to buy new hardware.
even nefariously so. even when they got caught red-handed slowing down older models with software updates, the actually believed their lame excuse: "oh.... that's uh, that's to care for your battery! yes, that's right!" hahahha

My iPhone 4 could display that. And I could read it without thinking: Hum, this looks weird?!

It’s a shame those small UI updates are now exclusively for newer models too.
Feels like Apple is running out of ideas on how to motivate people to upgrade their phones. So they come up with the most ridiculous ways to cripple the OS/UI.
Yes, but remember that IPhone 4 had battery % out of the battery icon and it was way bigger. The new battery % is way smaller and it is INSIDE the battery icon.

This is a problem for Apple, it has already done it in the past: to think that you don't need a band of customers, which you can despise and set aside.

It happened with 12” laptops, it happened with manageable iPhones.

Then it came back meekly on her pastures.

Until he produce something valid, my money will remain mine and Apple remain with his filth.

This patchwork support will be down to a combination of factors, in older models it's because they are older, apple will start to phase them out now. And in smaller models it's probably because their design team decided it would look too crammed and didn't fit their aesthetic. Lots of people are complaining about this, but honestly it just seems like a sensible decision

Those models specifically have low DPI displays, so rendering something as small as that might make it look weird or illegible.

Small Apple products has EVER better DPI. Mac, iPad, iPhone. Fans of enormous products are always hilarious: “BIG IS BETTER!”, we know you has always one thing in mind!

In this case I would love for their design team to first sort out the horizontal alignment issues the top part of the screen has. Not only on mini screens, but even bigger displays. I have not seen iOS be so messy since the release of iOS7. It isn't a sensible decision as mini has enough PPI to display the % perfectly without sacrificing legibility. What's happening right now is some people, yet again, finding any excuse to justify yet another garbage move from Apple.

Yeah the battery widget is stupid. It prioritises earphones, then watch, then iPhone.

Oh and a second widget will show the battery level for the same device.

It is not very obvious, but apparently you can tap the Widget and then you can disable the automatic switching and choose a device. But only in edit mode and when it is already on your screen.
