False. The 12 mini and 13 mini have the highest DPI of any iPhone. Ever. Those models specifically have low DPI displays, so rendering something as small as that might make it look weird or illegible.
Because they want you to spend more. Mini has the highest PPI and yet Apple thinks it's not fit for this. Silly and totally a jerk move from Apple. Nothing elsewhy is it not on the mini!?!?
Nothing has changed on the Xr or mini devices for reading battery percentage. The swipe down gesture was exactly how it has been getting done. That's a bad idea in terms of usability.
It was fine in the version before. Just rollback. Not that difficult.
Many design ideas fail in initial testing.
iPhone 6/7/8/SE have the exact same pixel density as XR and 11, but those have no problem displaying the battery percentage.Suspect it's text legibility. The Xr / 11 screens don't have the pixel resolution to effectively display the numbers, and the mini's are probably either too tight on space, or the text would be too small.
Outside the battery icon. The notch takes up that space and apparently Apple thinks showing the percentage alone would plunge users into an abyss of confusion and despair.iPhone 6/7/8/SE have the exact same pixel density as XR and 11, but those have no problem displaying the battery percentage.
Yeah but they had the horizontal space to put it outside of the battery icon, we don't have that option in the areas next to the notch.iPhone 6/7/8/SE have the exact same pixel density as XR and 11, but those have no problem displaying the battery percentage.
Yes, but remember that IPhone 4 had battery % out of the battery icon and it was way bigger. The new battery % is way smaller and it is INSIDE the battery icon.My iPhone 4 could display that. And I could read it without thinking: Hum, this looks weird?!
It’s a shame those small UI updates are now exclusively for newer models too.
Feels like Apple is running out of ideas on how to motivate people to upgrade their phones. So they come up with the most ridiculous ways to cripple the OS/UI.
I was pointing out that it wasn't a legibility issue. Making the battery icon slightly larger to fit the percentage inside would have been a good solution, but oh well...Yeah but they had the horizontal space to put it outside of the battery icon, we don't have that option in the areas next to the notch.
Yeah, then we'd lose the wifi icon, or the signal bars. We can't just magically make more space.I was pointing out that it wasn't a legibility issue. Making the battery icon slightly larger to fit the percentage inside would have been a good solution, but oh well...
Or just display the battery percentage instead of the icon. Problem solved.Yeah, then we'd lose the wifi icon, or the signal bars. We can't just magically make more space.![]()

In this case I would love for their design team to first sort out the horizontal alignment issues the top part of the screen has. Not only on mini screens, but even bigger displays. I have not seen iOS be so messy since the release of iOS7. It isn't a sensible decision as mini has enough PPI to display the % perfectly without sacrificing legibility. What's happening right now is some people, yet again, finding any excuse to justify yet another garbage move from Apple. This patchwork support will be down to a combination of factors, in older models it's because they are older, apple will start to phase them out now. And in smaller models it's probably because their design team decided it would look too crammed and didn't fit their aesthetic. Lots of people are complaining about this, but honestly it just seems like a sensible decision
Yeah the battery widget is stupid. It prioritises earphones, then watch, then iPhone.i wonder if it would be possible to show the percentage in a lockscreen widget.
the Apple one only shows me information about the watch.

Oh and a second widget will show the battery level for the same device.
