The iPhone 5s didn't have pre-orders but here are the sales totals for the first day.

There's this site as well, but I don't know how accurate it is.

A lot of people are scoffing at this, but it actually does take a ton of bezel to make one iPhone screen. First, the bezel silicate has to be mined, in one of the bezel mining sites in Canada, China or Chile. Then it gets transported to a bezel refining site. Bezel refining is a multi-step process, requiring removal of mineral impurities, followed by separation into the actual bezel and other chemical components. The pure bezel then gets formed into bezel bars for transport, which end up at a manufacturing facility for making the "wafers" from which the actual iPhone screen bezels get cut. The point it, the raw bezel is very impure, and needs to be highly refined to get usable screen material. It actually does take about one ton of raw bezel material to make a single iPhone screen.

What you talkin' 'bout Willis?

Huh? So now Im a arm chair CEO because I think Apple shouldve been more prepared.

There's nothing else that this sort of demand can be compared too. So its a little silly to say apple was unprepared.

Who's example should apple have followed to handle this correctly?

Focus on Specs versus the experience

It amazes me how apple bashers always focus on the specs not being equal. Not enough memory, not fast enough, lower quality screen.

They fail to realize that just how Tim Cook explained on a recent interview....its all about the customer experience. A great experience is a combination of a great hardware, software, and services.

Apple provides great experiences in using their products hence the customer devotion and passion.

" its not what you say.........its how you make me feel "

iPhone 4 at 600.000, iPhone 4S at 4 million in the first 3 days, iPhone 5 at 2 million in the first day, iPhone 5S numbers weren't released but estimates are at ~2,2 million for the first day.

The 5S was 9 million the first weekend. That is a challenge to try and beat.

Only 4 million in 24 hours... Hmmmm

You mean to tell me the site was down because Apple couldn't handle 4 million customers in a day? Eeek! That's not good.

You obviously don't work with servers. If my math is correct, that's roughly 2,777 orders per minute or 46 orders per second.

While also working with other carriers servers that they have no control of.

This. I'm going to be ticked if people are picking up the 6+ on release day in store when I preordered mine a week prior and have to wait a month.

That's exactly what will happen and that's kinda how it's always been though. A large portion of iPhones go to preorders, and another portion goes to retail for in store sales. If we wanted to go wait in a line for several hours (or days for some people) I'm sure we could get the 6+ via walk-in as well.

Or you have those people willing to pay over retail on eBay or Craigslist, etc...

More prepared? I'm sure they have considered it and even prepared for it. This is record breaking on its own (as always). Expect it will not be smooth sailing when this is the case. So many factors to consider internal and external. This is the reality, in life and in professional work environment. Things don't always go smoothly the first time (ever been in a software implementation?, software upgrade at work? hardware rollout? geezz.. an office move?). For you to generally make this statement shows your inexperience and unqualified nature to make this statement. Give a little leeway.

That's not an excuse. Apple, ATT, TMobile, Sprint, VZN and others knew it was going to be a big release and that demand was pent up. I'm not saying Apple didn't try. I'm saying it could've been better.

I work in software.... again I'm not saying people aren't trying. I'm saying it could've been better. Crashing is not good. You need to have a plan to handle it.

Anyone going to show up Friday to try to buy one? Do you think the Apple store and AT&T stores will have extras on hand to sell? Since I got screwed out of my pre order on Apples site I was hoping to buy one at launch and cancel my 10 day wait pre order.
