I still really, really don't, but I have no choice. I'm on an iPhone 4, and I want to buy another phone that will get 4 years of OS updates. I'm stuck with the iPhone 6 despite the fact that I think 3.5" is a good screen size. I tried a Nexus 4 a few months ago and the size made me want to throw it against the wall.

There's literally no other option for me in the market, Android or iPhone. Android phones smaller than 4.7" are garbage phones, and I'm not going to buy a 5s so I can buy a new phone in 3 years instead.

I still think iPhone 4 is their best design. Would be nice if they made a phone and called it 'iPhone 6 Retro' with the same design cues as the iPhone 4. Maybe in 3.5", 4" and 4.7" screen size. Obviously with updated hardware.

Samsung would much rather sell an iPhone where their parts sell for 3 times what they could get for them in their own phones.

Lol you're the second person to say this. Is this the new thing now? That Samsung is doing this on purpose so iPhone's will sell?

Oh boy.

Then why don't people pick out those guys and send them a PM with a "Haha, told you so!" three times a day?

Out of another curiosity: Are people who keep saying "I told you so!" even weeks later very popular and well-liked in your social environment?

Why don't you pm the ones saying it, you are doing the same thing by posting and not pm'ing. I WOULD say possibly because the tiny hands people didn't say it by pm's either though.

People like you, upset over what someone in a forum posts that doesn't affect you, are definitely not welcome in my social environment.

Actually, the iPhone 6 is the iPhone 6 Retro, because it essentially goes back to the design of the iPhone 2G/3G/3GS. :D

You are talking to the people who complain that they had to suffer through so many "Nobody needs a bigger screen" posts, correct? Because frankly, none of these posts "affected" them.

Going into administration shouldn't make pre-orders invalid. It means the management has changed from the owners of the company to an administrator. The administrator has to maximise money given to debtors. Delivering phones to customers surely helps.

However, anyone who did order through Phone4U might consider cancelling their order. In the UK, you have considerable rights against the seller of an item - and these great rights are worth nothing if the seller goes bankrupt. So after your 12 month manufacturer's warranty runs out, you won't get any free repairs if the store where you bought is bankrupt.

Exactly. Big difference between going into administration and being wound-up (to use the UK terminology).

That's exactly what will happen and that's kinda how it's always been though. A large portion of iPhones go to preorders, and another portion goes to retail for in store sales. If we wanted to go wait in a line for several hours (or days for some people) I'm sure we could get the 6+ via walk-in as well.

Unfortunately I know you are right. That won't stop me from complaining about it once it happens.

Well, it's the theory. In practice, Phone4U seems to have thrown in the towel. They said they had no chance continuing their business because one of their two most important partners isn't extending a contract that runs some time into 2015. So right now they _could_ continue, but they are probably losing money and decided that closing down is cheaper than continuing to run.

Yep, Androids had big screens first, and yep Apple is copying that now because they believe enough people want a big screen. There is truth to the "one handed" argument, just as there is truth to the "bigger is better" one.

If you enjoy your big screen, you really do have Android to thank for that. If you choose not to remember lambasting Androids for having giant screens fine, but now you are no different than the Android fans who claim their first forays into smartphones weren't a blatant ripoff of the iPhone. Sure, it's worse what they did, but Apple is still doing a 180 on the "perfect size" statement they made even as little as a year ago.

It doesn't change that Androids are still a woeful experience by comparison, and that the user base of iPhones are much more loyal and statistically affluent, but it does prove once and for all that Apple never really thought 4" was the "perfect" size or they'd still be offering it as at least an OPTION for the 6.

By launching this way it's a tacit admission that Android had it right. I may not agree, but it is what it is, and Apple has made it's move.

That's not an excuse. Apple, ATT, TMobile, Sprint, VZN and others knew it was going to be a big release and that demand was pent up. I'm not saying Apple didn't try. I'm saying it could've been better.

46 orders per second and you expect no hiccup? We're so privledged to live in a country that can actually afford to purchase things like the latest iphone simply because of want and not necessity and yet people complain about not getting an order in. Pathetic.

I for one would love the iPhone 4 aesthetics. The glass layer adds depth and make the phone looks so classy.

About right - it's been reported that they've cancelled all outstanding iP6 pre-orders.

iPhone 5s is blazing fast. Consider the iPhone 6 only improves performance by 25%, that should show already how fast the A7 chip is in the 5s. If you are dead set on a smaller phone, get the 5s since it is already similar in performance.

Only 4 million in 24 hours... Hmmmm

You mean to tell me the site was down because Apple couldn't handle 4 million customers in a day? Eeek! That's not good.

No that's not it. It's more or less about 4 million hits in the first 60 seconds of the pre-order period. Ill be very impressed if they or anyone can handle 4 million hits per second

But it was only approx. 2,2 mil on the first day, so its off to a good start ;)

Nope the 5 had 2.2 million the first day of preorders. The 5S didn't even have a week of preordering.

The 5S 9 million in sales should be compared to 6 sales over the weekend of the 19th.

Preorders were double what they were for the 5, and I still think that the first weekend of sales will be greater than 10 million, so thats anywhere between 15-20 million from the preorder week to the end of the first weekend.

Keep in mind also that this is going to be less countries that the 5S I believe as well.

the second round of 20 more countries are starting preorders on the 19th as well, so Apple could easily include those numbers in their "first week" of sales. That could easily see them north of 20 million in a little over a week.

70 million for the rest of 2014 suddenly seems pretty feasible, and we are talking proper sales, not just shipments...

If I'm Apple's CIO, I will fire the supervisor in charge of this launch. He/she knows the pent up demand is huge, has a couple of data centers at his disposal, bottomless pit of corporate money, and still, a premium company can't premium service for its most important product. First world problem or not, failing the customer's expectation is failing.

Highly.....

predictable based on hype on Apple products and Apple own market research saying "people want bigger screens and would pay for it".....:D

Anyways, is a formidable feat. To be noted for the industry and smartphone makers....

AHh arm chair CIO! Well here's the thing, you are not because you don't have the experience or requirements to hold a position of a CIO. However you are super critical and always have the best decisions in hindsight with no grasp of the impact and effort it takes to do anything more than post on the internet forum as a negative nancy. You are however a perfect candidate to do sales and lie your @ss off to do a sale while feeling good about your morality.

Remember, though, that China was part of last year's launch, and as of yet there isn't even an announced launch date. Also, supply will be an issue, particularly for the 6 Plus. I think we may see 10 million total sales next weekend, but 15-20 million seems overdone. Remember back in 2012, people were predicting sales of 8 million because pre-orders doubled. Instead, we saw sales of 5 million compared to 4 million the previous year. Last year there were no pre-orders of the 5s, but they managed to get 9 million out the door the first weekend.
